Miranda: A place of wonders!

Student view on course curriculum

The major reason which intrigued me in selecting this course I.e. BA Program (Multidisciplinary) is because it provides versatility to the students. Majoring in Political Science and minoring in History, I have realised that choosing this course was definable the best decision I have made for myself. The areas of improvement are still there regardless of the fact that there are mainly only positive aspects of this course in my experience. The fact that this course has a very wide syllabus makes it very hectic for students to grasp each and every single information. Hence, the volume of the syllabus should be reduced to a certain extent. The teaching methods are mainly in the form of classroom type teacher-to-student.

Internship opportunity provided by the college

The internship opportunities are available to the students of the second and the consecutive years. I am from the first year so, we do not get the internship opportunities. But, as for what I have heard from my seniors, the internships are varied in the type of field. Hence, students belonging from any background (humanities, Sciences or Commerce) can get the internship opportunity.

Top company recruiting from the campus and highest package

From the second semester, students become eligible for campus placements. Several companies like Boat, TATA, Reliance etc. offer internships to students. The highest average package goes up till 9LPA.

Yearly fees structure and scholarship

The BA program fees is 15460 yearly and the fees for accomodation (hostel) is 32190 for the first semester and 26000 for the second semester. There is some difference in the fees between the general and the category students (SC,ST, OBC and EWS) but it is now huge. Financial aids and scholarships are provided for the students belonging from EWS category.

College fest and various activities

Currently, in the month of February, the fest of BAP department is going to be held on 18th of February specifically (the name of the fest is called Exuberance). Other than this, the fest of every department and society is held between February and May. The main fest of the college called the 'Tempest' is held in April The sports facilities of the college are good other than the fact that we do not have a huge ground in the college. There is a Lawn Tennis court, a volleyball court, an amazing basketball court etc. There are numerous societies of the college like the Hindi dramatics society (called Anukriti), the western music society (Orpheus), the film society (Celluloid), the fine art society (Adwitya), the fashion crew, the environment society (MH Vatavaran) etc.

Hostel facilities provided by the college

The hostel facilities, according to the fees we hostellers pay are more than enough. We have a spacious room with two bedrooms,(some having four bedrooms: these are alloted to the students who come late to avail the hostel facilities) a pantry for students to fill their bottles or cook some food or wash the dishes along with a refrigerator, the rooms are attached with a balcony. The fees of the hostel for BA Program students for the first semester is around ?32,000/- and for the second semester, it is around ?26,000/-. In order to register for the hostel, one has to go to the link of Miranda House and then, she can find the option to register for the hostel. There are several PGs in North campus. The main areas for these being, Vijaynagar and Kamla Nagar.

Student views on the faculty and exams

The faculty to student ratio is around 1:200 (considering all the departments though, the figure can differ from one department to another). Most of the professors are extremely amiable and well read in their particular field of study. The exams are held on the ending of a semester. This means that there are no mid semester exams. The pattern of the exam is pretty easy. Thus, almost every student can pass the exam but, exceptionally a very few number of students can fail as well if their performance is extremely low.

Admission process and eligibility criteria

The best part of the whole CURT experience is that Miranda House and the course BA Programme, both were my first preferences and fortunately, I got both of my first preferences. I chose Miranda over the other colleges for several reasons. First, it has a very vibrant and diverse community of students. Second, the course which I wanted was available in this college. Third, the peaceful and the beautiful environment also attracted me to keep the college on the top of the list. Fourth, I wanted to have an experience of an all girls college after being a student of co-ed college my entire life. The eligibility criteria for the college is to be a 12th grade pass out and to appear for the Central University Entrance Test (CUET) with the subjects studied specifically in the 12th grade.

Night life inside the campus

The favourite hang out spots for Mirandans are endless. Be it the Principal's Lawns or the Hostel Lawns. Each and every single corner of the college is a unique in it's own way. Outside the college, there is the famous spot where everyone goes for having tea or print their readings called Patel Chest! Other than that, we also have the famous'Tom Incle' outside the 2nd gate of our college who serves amazing dishes, the most famous being 'Tom uncle ki Maggi'.

I wanted to have a college that should allow me free time for my UPSC prepartion and coachings and a part time job as well. So accordingly Sri Aurobindo fits well to it. When I compare it to other colleges I had applied to, the differences are quite noticeable. Day colleges definitely have a more vibrant campus life. In contrast, the evening setup here is quieter and more functional, with students mostly attending classes and heading back. Academically, though, the gap isn’t as wide as one might assume. The curriculum is the same across Delhi University. As for the admission process, it was fairly straightforward thanks to Delhi University’s centralized system. After registering on the DU portal, it was mostly about filling in preferences and waiting for seat allocation based on scores.

Delhi University: 140 Answered Questions

Which is better BHU or DU?

Siddharth Bansal

BHU (Banaras Hindu University, Varanasi) vs DU (Delhi University) — depends heavily on what you're studying:

BHU advantages: central university, residential campus in Varanasi, strong STEM programs (IIT-BHU for engineering), excellent humanities and social sciences, affordable fees, iconic campus, rich cultural environment.

DU advantages: Delhi location (massive employment market), more recognized for economics, commerce, political science, English literature, journalism. DU college brand (St. Stephens, Hindu, SRCC) carries significant weight for certain careers. better for networking in business/media/government sectors.

by subject:

  • Sciences/research: BHU is genuinely excellent, sometimes better than DU for pure sciences
  • Commerce/Economics/MBA prep: DU (SRCC, Shri Ram) has edge
  • Humanities: roughly equal, different strengths (BHU for Sanskrit/classical; DU for modern humanities)
  • Campus life: BHU wins for residential experience. DU is urban/commuter-heavy

both are among India's finest universities. choice depends on your field and priorities.

What are some of the worst Delhi University colleges?

Pratyasha
Ritesh Choudhary

some of the lower-ranked or less-preferred Delhi University colleges — to answer honestly:

DU has 90+ affiliated colleges varying widely in quality. some less prestigious ones (in terms of rankings, faculty, placements) include:

  • Colleges in east/outer Delhi: some government colleges in Shahdara, Seelampur area have lower rankings
  • Some evening colleges and correspondence colleges associated with DU have less campus resources
  • Certain newer affiliated colleges that lack established infrastructure

however, 'worst' is relative. even lower-ranked DU colleges have the DU degree and CUET-based admission, which carries weight. the bigger issue is infrastructure and faculty quality varies significantly.

the key insight: for DU BA/BCom/BSc programs, the college name matters less than you think for most careers. the DU degree itself is recognized. focus on your performance, internships, and skills rather than which DU college — unless applying to highly brand-conscious employers where the top DU colleges (Stephen's, Hindu, SRCC, Lady Shri Ram) have specific alumni networks.

If a person has short attendance in the 1st semester in DU, what could be the consequences?

Varun Bhatia

short attendance consequences in DU (Delhi University) 1st semester:

DU has a strict 75% attendance requirement across most programs:

  • Below 75% attendance: you may be debarred from appearing in the semester-end examination — this is the most serious consequence. without exam appearance, you automatically fail the semester
  • 67-74% attendance: some DU colleges allow condonation (excuse) for this range with valid reasons (medical certificate, family emergency etc.). application to the principal/head of department required
  • Below 67%: generally no condonation — debarment from exam

the exact attendance condonation policy varies by college — some colleges are stricter than others. check with your specific college's attendance officer or administration. if your attendance is borderline, proactively approach your college with valid documentation immediately rather than waiting till exam time. colleges have internal procedures for attendance shortage claims that must be initiated well before exams.

What are courses in DU for commerce without Math?

Binoy K P
Bhagyashree Patil

DU has quite a few good options for commerce students without math! main ones:

  • B.Com (Hons) / B.Com Programme — you can apply even without math in class 12. admission is via CUET UG. the content in 2nd/3rd year does get math-heavy (financial accounting, stats) but it's manageable without a strong math background
  • BMS (Bachelor of Management Studies) — good for commerce without math. covered in DU's South Campus colleges. MBA-track career path
  • BA (Hons) Economics — technically no math requirement at 12th, but the course itself is very quantitative. only pick this if you're actually comfortable with basic math concepts
  • BA Programme (Commerce elective combinations) — flexibility to combine commerce subjects with non-math options
  • BBA (FMS) — offered by Faculty of Management Studies affiliated colleges. good management track without needing PCM

one thing people miss — DU now admits via CUET UG, not 12th board cutoffs (since 2022). so it doesn't matter how high your 12th board marks are; what matters is your CUET score in the relevant subjects. for B.Com CUET subjects are Accountancy, Business Studies, Economics, English. register early and prepare specifically for CUET!

Is there any quota for Delhi students in DU?

Poonam Sharma

yes, there is a Delhi quota at DU but it works differently from what most people expect:

for UG admission via CUET: DU colleges don't have a formal state-based quota like NITs do. admission to all central universities is through CUET scores on All India merit. a student from Kerala can compete equally with a Delhi student for a DU seat.

however, there IS a functional advantage for Delhi students:

  • DU has specific wards of employees quota (for children of DU/Delhi Govt employees)
  • Kashmiri Migrants and certain minority/SC/ST quotas with Delhi domicile requirements
  • some affiliated Delhi colleges have special category seats for Delhi residents in specific courses

ECA (Extra Curricular Activity) and Sports quotas are also available — these are open to all but trials happen in Delhi, making it easier for local students practically.

the real Delhi advantage is in NRI quota and management quota at some colleges where Delhi residents may get preference.

bottom line: DU undergraduate admission via CUET has no official Delhi state quota for general merit seats. it's All India merit. the quotas that exist are institutional (employees, minority, sports/ECA) not purely geography-based. check the specific DU admission brochure each year for the exact seat matrix.

What was DU BBA Cutoff for all colleges?

Sapna Malik
Vanita Patel

DU BBA cutoffs are now through CUET UG scores (since 2022) — not 12th board marks anymore. so "cutoffs" now refer to CUET scores, not percentage marks.

top DU BBA colleges and their approximate CUET competitiveness (General category):

  • SSCBS (Shaheed Sukhdev College of Business Studies): India's top BBA college, extremely competitive — near-perfect CUET scores required. DU's most sought-after BBA
  • DCAC (Deen Dayal Upadhyaya College): second most popular BBA, still very competitive
  • Keshav Mahavidyalaya: slightly lower cutoff than the above
  • Bhim Rao Ambedkar College, Maharaja Agrasen: moderately competitive

for current year cutoffs, check the DU admission portal (du.ac.in) after CUET results are announced. each college announces their CUET score cutoffs via the CSAS (Common Seat Allocation System) portal. don't rely on old percentage-based cutoffs — those are outdated since CUET replaced them.

What is the cutoff for DU Btech?

Anil Choudhary

okay so first — DU BTech and DTU are totally different colleges, a LOT of people mix this up so flagging early lol

for University of Delhi (actual DU) BTech, admission is through JEE Main via JAC Delhi counseling. 2024 general category closing ranks:

  • CSE: opening ~21,499 | closing ~38,020
  • ECE: closing around 55,000–65,000
  • Mechanical / Civil: closes 1,00,000+ easily

if you're a Delhi student you compete in the 85% home quota which is a massive advantage. outside Delhi? 15% seats only, much tighter cutoffs. also — cutoffs in later JAC rounds (3-4) drop by 2,000–5,000 ranks from round 1 so don't freeze choices too early. always verify on the JAC Delhi portal before locking!

Conversion methods:

  • Common Formula: Percentage = CGPA × 9.5 (widely used but not universal).
  • University-Specific: Some use CGPA × 10, CGPA × 9, or custom multipliers—verify officially.
  • Marksheet Reference: Recent marksheets often display both CGPA and percentage equivalents.
  • Official Certificate: For job applications or admissions, request university-issued conversion certificate.
  • Grade Point Scale: 10-point, 4-point, and 5-point scales use different conversion factors.

Check your university's examination section website for authorized conversion formulas. Avoid third-party converters—they may not match your university's method.

No, Delhi University (DU) does not offer a B.Com course that is integrated with ACCA. There is no officially listed “B.Com + ACCA” programme in DU’s curriculum or prospectus. It is true that after doing a normal B.Com (or B.Com. Hons) from DU, you can register for ACCA, and you will get 5 paper exemptions (F1-F4 + F6) for ACCA’s Applied Knowledge/Skills level, depending on your course content.
