Ques. Is DTU M.Sc Chemistry the same as M.Sc Applied Chemistry?
Ans. DTU’s M.Sc Chemistry programme is offered by the Department of Applied Chemistry and covers both foundational and applied aspects of inorganic, organic, and physical chemistry. The two course names refer to the same department and programme structure at DTU. Students admitted to either listing study the same curriculum, use the same laboratories, and receive a degree from DTU’s Department of Applied Chemistry upon successful completion.
Ques. What is the CUET PG cutoff for DTU M.Sc Chemistry?
Ans. DTU does not publish a fixed CUET PG cutoff in advance for M.Sc Chemistry. The cutoff varies each year based on the number of applicants, their CUET PG Chemistry scores, and the availability of 40 seats. Historically, competition for M.Sc science seats at DTU has been moderate given its status as a state technical university. Candidates scoring in the higher percentile range in CUET PG Chemistry (SCQP08) have a stronger chance of qualifying in the merit-based counselling.
Ques. What topics are covered in DTU M.Sc Chemistry?
Ans. The DTU M.Sc Chemistry curriculum covers physical chemistry, organic chemistry, inorganic chemistry, spectroscopy, electrochemistry, and advanced laboratory techniques over four semesters. The programme also includes elective courses and a research dissertation or project component in the final semester. Being part of a technical university allows students to take interdisciplinary electives in materials science, environmental engineering, and related fields.
Ques. What are the career options after M.Sc Chemistry from DTU?
Ans. Graduates of M.Sc Chemistry from DTU typically pursue PhD programmes at IITs, IISc, central universities, or abroad. Career options include research scientist positions in CSIR labs, pharmaceutical companies, specialty chemicals firms, quality control roles, and academic teaching. Competitive exams such as GATE Chemistry, CSIR NET, and UGC NET are natural next steps after the degree for research and academic careers.
Ques. Is hostel accommodation available for DTU M.Sc Chemistry students?
Ans. Yes, hostel accommodation is available on the DTU main campus at Shahbad Daulatpur, New Delhi, for eligible students including those in M.Sc programmes. Hostel fees are charged separately from the academic fee of INR 98,000 and are notified annually by the DTU hostel administration. Availability is subject to the total number of hostel seats and is allotted on a first-come, first-served basis after admission.
Ques. Can I apply for CSIR NET after completing DTU M.Sc Chemistry?
Ans. Yes, DTU M.Sc Chemistry graduates are fully eligible to appear in the CSIR NET (Chemical Sciences) examination conducted by CSIR-UGC for JRF and Lectureship. Appearing in CSIR NET is a common pathway for M.Sc Chemistry graduates aiming to pursue a PhD with a fellowship or to qualify for assistant professor eligibility. Many students also appear in GATE Chemistry (CY) to access PhD positions at IITs and centrally funded institutions.

The choice depends on what matters the most to you.
If placements, faculty and research opportunities are your top most priority, choose IIIT Delhi CSE. In this respect, IIITD CSE beats DTU Mechanical by a large margin. But if you want the best of campus, college environment, cultural fests and brand name, DTU Mechanical is a much better choice.
I would personally recommend IIIT Delhi, as it offers top notch placements. But if you’re truly passionate about Mechanical, choose that branch. Do not take your interest for granted while choosing your branch/degree.
As an NSUT student, the new CBCS (choice based credit system) allows you to choose your fields of study. This makes for more flexible courses. Also, NSUT has an excellent coding environment which will help you for your minor in Computer Science. Many students over there pursue coding, despite being from a branch other than IT/COE.
In DTU, you will have electives starting from 5th semester. These are department and general electives. IIIT Delhi offers the most flexible courses. Other than some fixed category credits, all the subjects are choice based.
Thus, in terms of providing flexible courses, this is the order of preference- IIITD> NSUT>DTU.
