Campus Life

  • We have one campus spread across County Durham.
  • We had a gym, library, and sports ground.
  • Lots of ongoing campus festivals, college days, formals, and balls. Summer ball is the best out of them.
  • Every possible society you can think of, from finance to ramen noodle society. One can take part in sports for their university or college; there are debates as well.

Fees

  • Tuition fees were £30.00 per annum, and the fees were to be paid in 3 instalments. Accommodation fees were £8900 per annum in three instalments.
  • Charged semester-wise
  • My monthly expenses (including groceries, as I cooked for myself), excluding rent, were £600. This included transportation, travels to different cities, food, going out, restaurants, subscriptions, and books.

  • Durham University follows a collegiate system. We had 14 colleges. Every college had its own fest, bar, library, gym. There were lot of events where one could participate.
  • You can also apply for a part time job at the bar. This takes care of job and ensures that its nearby. However, it was quite competitive to get the job as most of the students would apply for it.

Fees

  • The total expense was roughly 25 Lakhs. The Break-up would be:
    Tuition Fee: 13 lakhs
    Accommodation (excluding food): 8-10 lakhs

  • Monthly expense would be around 300-400 pounds. Since I had a job from a beginning I could easily manage my finances. If you are staying anywhere in London rent would a huge expense. There was no travelling expense as everything was at a walking distance.

For eg. Renting cost in east London would be 150-200 pounds / week. The same rent in a small city like Durham would be 80-120 pounds / week

  • The city is the campus! Colleges, departments, accommodations are scattered across the city.
  • Sports centre, Multiple Libraries, multiple cafes, vending machines, cycle stands, parking spaces, printers and photocopier command centre
  • Every college has formal dinners once a week, june ball in Durham castle, bailey balls, oriental museum diwali and so on.
  • Durham University offers a vibrant extracurricular scene with over 200 student societies and numerous opportunities for students to engage beyond academics. Team Durham provides an extensive sports program, featuring over 50 sports clubs catering to all skill levels, from recreational to competitive.
  • The university also has a rich arts and cultural environment, with Music Durham supporting various ensembles, including choirs, orchestras, and a cappella groups, while Durham Student Theatre hosts diverse performances throughout the year. For debate enthusiasts, the historic Durham Union Society provides a platform for discussions and events.
  • The university’s college system further enriches the experience, with each college organizing its own unique activities, events, and traditions, ensuring there’s something for everyone to enjoy.

  • * So the college has number of campuses like
    1. Teaching and Learning centre building
    2. Waterside building
    3. Old Business school
    4. Law school
    5. Chemistry building
    6. Elvet building
    7. Mountjoy building

    * As Durham University is spread across the county, we have all facilities like sports, library, medical services but they’re all spread throughout the county. We have one of the best libraries in UK, we have one of the best sports facilities centre.

Fees

  • The tuition fee I’m paying is £31,500. My living fee, which includes only my rent, is £9250 for 50 weeks.
  • I paid £2000 in the beginning as my advanced tuition fee and £400 advance rent to confirm my seat and my accommodation. I have to pay both tuition and living expenses in 3 installments. 1st we have already paid in December, next in February, and last in May.
  • In my monthly expense, I pay £740 rent(which is paid in 3 instalments to the university, not monthly). I do not have particularly any transportation cost as Durham is a small county so we mainly prefer to walk and other living expenses include groceries, other events like Bollywood parties, techno parties or our own house parties that all sums upto around £200-300. Out of which groceries are necessities which cost upto £150-200. Rest are extra cost like occasional shopping, parties, events, etc.

  • The college campus is spread over the whole city of Durham. All the buildings are spread over different locations in Durham, which include the Teaching and Learning Centre, the Palatine Centre, the Old Business School, the Bill Bryson Library, the Waterside Business School, etc.The major clubs here include Jimmy Allens, Babylon, Fabius, Ozborns, etc.
  • The major attraction here is the Durham Cathedral.

Fees

  • The fee structure is divided into 3 parts: first, at the end of term 1; second, at the end of term 2; and third, at the end of term 3. The same goes for college accommodation. Mine was 32750 for college and 9250 for accommodation in total.
On average, if spent meaningfully, 200 pounds a month would be enough to survive a month. The travel is mostly done on foot or one can also take a bus, which is just 1.5 pounds for a whole day or 1 pound for a single trip. Uber can also be taken but it’s very much costly, nearing to 8-10 pounds for a single normal trip of 1.5 miles
