  • Use forex cards wisely: Using forex cards from banks like HDFC, ICICI, or Axis and booking GBP in phases can help manage exchange rate fluctuations.
  • MBA scholarships for women: Female MBA applicants can apply for the Women in Business Scholarship, which can provide up to £20,000 combined funding (~₹26 Lakhs) with other MBA awards.

  • I found the course (Economics) regressive and challenging, first year, first term was a lot like 12th grade, but very quickly it got challenging, so I had to ensure I stayed on top of my workload. It was a good mix of theory and practical work.
  • I usually had 3 lectures per day and 1 seminar; our contact hours per week were 27 hours.
  • Each class has around 160 students
  • Durham didn’t have a lot of Indian students. There were 10% Indian in the entire economics batch.

Fees

  • Tuition fees were £30.00 per annum, and the fees were to be paid in 3 instalments. Accommodation fees were £8900 per annum in three instalments.
  • Charged semester-wise
  • My monthly expenses (including groceries, as I cooked for myself), excluding rent, were £600. This included transportation, travels to different cities, food, going out, restaurants, subscriptions, and books.

  • The difficulty was very less. The positive aspect is that it is practical and research based. You need not mug up.
  • You are given a PPT by the professor which you need to read before the lectures. The lectures are more of a discussion type.
  • The negative aspect is that the difficulty level is very less. As a masters programme I thought it would be more complex. Since its open to graduates from other fields. They keep the difficulty level low.
  • The average no. of students in a lecture depends on how many students have enrolled for the subject. It is typically 25-30 students but some common subjects may even have 60 students.

Fees

  • The total expense was roughly 25 Lakhs. The Break-up would be:
    Tuition Fee: 13 lakhs
    Accommodation (excluding food): 8-10 lakhs

  • Monthly expense would be around 300-400 pounds. Since I had a job from a beginning I could easily manage my finances. If you are staying anywhere in London rent would a huge expense. There was no travelling expense as everything was at a walking distance.

For eg. Renting cost in east London would be 150-200 pounds / week. The same rent in a small city like Durham would be 80-120 pounds / week

  • The difficulty is high as even though for masters we don’t have examinations, we have summative or submissions which are entirely researched based and should be new work and not plagiarised and there are multiple summative for each module.
  • Positive: Great faculty who are experts in their fields
  • Negative: Lack of fieldwork
  • 2-3 days a week I have my classes. Typically 2-3 classes a day. Time depends on modules. My classes start from 11 and end at 4:30 but I have gaps in between. But I know people who start classes at 9 AM and end at 5 PM, with hours long gaps in between.
  • 10-15 people per class, in tutorials can even be one on one or max to max 4-5 students
  • Only two. (Archaeology)

Fees

  • My fee structure:-
    26900 GBP: Tuition Fee
    5000: Scholarship awarded to me
    21900: Fee paid

8000-12350 (depends on type of room provided): Accommodation, Private accommodation price varies.

  • Estimate of monthly expenses: 300 GBP ( It can go upto 350-400 GBP if I travel in UK)

  • Fees can be paid all at once or in 3 installments through Debit/Credit card, Direct Debit, International transfer and so on.

  • My course management was particularly medium difficulty level course and that was because some of the concepts I had already studied in my undergraduate studies, as NMIMS’s course module is very advanced. For other students many things were quite new. My course was more theoretical and we had some practical experiences like factory visits and guest speakers.
  • Positive aspects include comprehending knowledge from real-life experiences, like guest speakers telling about how they built their company, how they are running it. That was an amazing way to understand business and learning about its pros and cons, where as negative aspects could be all the theoretical learning as personally I don’t like reading and learning and as my course was management so I had to.
  • It depends upon the subject, like the core subject for all management students that include general management, management and supply chain and management and international business have 5 core subjects out of which 4 in term 1 and 1 in term 2 and then we need to choose 3 electives according to our course so the electives class have less students compared to core subjects.
  • In my course there are many Indian students, around 25-50 students in all management courses (general, supply chain, IB, marketing and finance).

Fees

  • The tuition fee I’m paying is £31,500. My living fee, which includes only my rent, is £9250 for 50 weeks.
  • I paid £2000 in the beginning as my advanced tuition fee and £400 advance rent to confirm my seat and my accommodation. I have to pay both tuition and living expenses in 3 installments. 1st we have already paid in December, next in February, and last in May.
  • In my monthly expense, I pay £740 rent(which is paid in 3 instalments to the university, not monthly). I do not have particularly any transportation cost as Durham is a small county so we mainly prefer to walk and other living expenses include groceries, other events like Bollywood parties, techno parties or our own house parties that all sums upto around £200-300. Out of which groceries are necessities which cost upto £150-200. Rest are extra cost like occasional shopping, parties, events, etc.

Fees

  • The fee structure is divided into 3 parts: first, at the end of term 1; second, at the end of term 2; and third, at the end of term 3. The same goes for college accommodation. Mine was 32750 for college and 9250 for accommodation in total.
On average, if spent meaningfully, 200 pounds a month would be enough to survive a month. The travel is mostly done on foot or one can also take a bus, which is just 1.5 pounds for a whole day or 1 pound for a single trip. Uber can also be taken but it’s very much costly, nearing to 8-10 pounds for a single normal trip of 1.5 miles

  • I found my accommodation on the college website itself, as I booked for a university-owned and controlled accommodation, Ustinov College. All the basic facilities are provided; the rooms are good enough as per the student. It also has a common area with leisure activities and a bar. Yaa, Ustinov is a good accommodation; it’s centrally located from the academic buildings and the city centre; my monthly rent for an en-suite is here 9250.
A good no. Of Indians live here, 30-35.

I feel it is very updated. They make necessary changes from time to time. They take regular feedbacks and work on that feedback seriously.
