Life in HIMT

I didn't know about this curriculum before joining this course . The curriculum is well planned and specifies things which are required for merchant navy. Some topics in cel Navigation like staggered calculation is ommitted which should have been there because they come for 2nd mates exam. The curriculum and structure is very well established and is good for faculties to adapt and teach . The semester exams are conducted December/January and June/July. The internal exams are conducted at a specific interval of each semester. The difficulty of exams are moderate on whole.

In merchant navy there are courses which have different time period for training in MTI's and onboard training. As per my course B.Sc Nautical science i have to undergo 3 years of training in college and 12 months as cadet( internship) onboard ship ( respective companies) .

The placements for B.Sc Nautical science in HIMT is 90% and above . The placement drive usually starts in the 2nd year (4th semester) and for girls 1st year (2nd semester). The companies which usually come for placements in my college are MOLMI,MOLTA, ZODIAC,SANMAR,GENCO, ONESEA etc ... The package for cadets differ from company to company and type of vessel.

As I'm pursuing B.Sc Nautical science(3 years) in HIMT PRE SEA CAMPUS my course fees is as following: * Per year college fees - 325000 rupees * Caution deposit -25000 rupees * IMU fees for 3 years - 100000 rupees * Exam fees per semester (9 subjects) - 4650 (Arrear exam fees and revaluation fees are excluded). The lab fees , hostel fees , tution fees etc.. are all included in college fees. There are scholarships for girl cadets and fisherman's family through a scheme.

Overall experience in the college other than academics is good. We have sports facility which includes basketball court, pickleball court, football/cricket turf, volleyball court, indoor sports room, open ground etc.. we have jam session once in a while and college allows us to take part in external MTI events . The college conducts internal events like onam,diwali , sports events,Influx( started by my batch). Events conducted in our college has few restrictions. There are committee/clubs in our college which are fully maintained by cadets . Overall experience is good

There are 6 boys hostel and 1 girls . Each block is quite different due to the time period it was built . The accomodation blocks are good,neat and comfortable. 4 persons in one room with attached bathroom and toilet in some blocks and in two blocks the bathroom and toilet is common. The common bathroom and toilet are cleaned everyday and it's neat. No shortage for water supply. The fees for hostel is included in college fees. The galley food had two menu usually which are changed monthly. The food is ok. The cadets need to stay in hostel compulsorily because it's a residential campus and the courses mandates the cadets to stay within the campus and take the training.

I applied this course in three other colleges which are Tolani, Manet , coimbatore marine college. I live in coimbatore so i applied in CMC but after visiting the campus i didn't like the infrastructure and the placements record was not good enough. Tolani is a very good college one of the best college in india but the fees for BSC for three years was too high to afford by me so i couldn't join. HIMT is known for their discipline, safety priority and placements record. The fees was also comparatively less than other colleges and it is near to me compared to other colleges. I was selected in tolani, cmc, Manet but i chose HIMT . The selection process consist of a CBT test and online interview. The difficulty level is easy/moderate. We have to clear IMUCET in order to join this course .

Our college is affiliated with IMU . All the exams and curriculum is followed as per IMU. B.Sc Nautical science (3 years) consist of 6 semester and each semester consists of 5 theory and 4 practical ( Total 9 subjects). Theory subjects has a total of 100 marks in which 70 marks are semester exam and 30 is college internals . Each practical has 50 internal and 50 external. 30 marks internal is divided into three sections which are 5 marks orals(CT-1) 15 marks(CT-2),the CT-2 is a written exam conducted for 70 marks which are then converted to 15 marks , 10 marks is splitted into class record ( seminar, attentiveness, etc. this totals to 30 marks . My college has very experienced and skilled faculties who give valuable lessons. Students are free to ask and clarify doubts with faculties even after college hours. Some of the faculties whom i like personally due to their teaching methods and efforts and experience are Capt. Vasanth Parthasarathy, Capt.Anand Subramanian, Capt. Ullatil Ravindran, Capt.Himanshu Bhagawat, Uma maam, Bharathi maam .

Our college does ecourage night life for some extent. Gym is open till 2145hrs . The sports facility will be closed at 1930 hrs. Canteen will be closed by 2100 hrs. Everyone should be inside the respective blocks before 2145. Till 2145 cadets can hangout in the college only at respective places. Cadets are allowed outside the campus on every sunday from 0600 hrs to 1800 hrs. The cadets should wear uniform compulsorily while going out on Sunday. The cadets can take leave on other days with appropriate approval from the management and the leave details and criteria is mentioned in student portal.
