HIMT COLLEGE REVIEW

The curriculum is made in such a way that it covers everything that is required for merchant navy. For 2nd mates exam, the topics which are covered in the syllabus will be there and it will be helpful in future also. The semester exam is for 3 hours. For subjects which have calculations like cel navigation and stability, it will be little difficult adjust time and to understand it. But overall the difficulty level is moderate.

Placements are really good in HIMT. I got placed in 1st year itself in MOLMI. All faculties try their best to prepare us for the placements and it shows in the placement interview also. Usually companies come for placements from 2nd year but there are some companies who want to take girl cadets 1st year itself. MOLMI, MOLTA etc came to our college for placements. After completion of the course, company will call for induction and accordingly they will call for joining the ship. For finishing the cadet ship , we have finish 12 months of sea time. After that a lot courses has to be done for appearing in 2 nd mates exam.

I'm pursuing BSc nautical science in 2024 (3 years course), the fee structure is as follows: • Per year college fees- 325000 • Caution deposit- 25000 (refundable) • IMU course fees - 100000 • Exam fees per semester for 9 subjects- 4650 The tuition fees, hostel fees, lab fees are all included in college fees There are scholarships for girl cadets which is 50000 per semester (if arrears are not there)

College has a lot of committees which include event committee, sports committee, band committee, galley committee etc. The committee members take care of everything, they take opinions from everyone. College conducted Onam celebration, Diwali, ganash Chaturthi etc. We also have rotary club which helps us to connect with other people and be a help to those who are in need. The classroom is provided with smart board and it is air conditioned. If there is any infrastructure problem, then it will be rectified as soon as possible. Feedback's are taken regularly and it shows too. There's a sports complex in college where we can play basketball, cricket, football, pickleball etc. there's indoor sports room also where we can play carrom, chess, table tennis, etc. sports committee conducts competitions also.

Hostel facilities is very nice. Hostel is in the campus only. Hostel is very neat and clean and we have to maintain it like that only. If there's any problems then it will be rectified immediately. Room will be shared with four. It will be provided with bed, cupboard, chair, study table and proper lighting's. Galley food quality is nice but the taste can improve a little. Both hostel and galley food is included in the college fees, so no need to pay extra.

I didn't applied to any other colleges as I wasn't aware much about this field. I got to know about this college from my friend. I knew about other colleges like Tolani and T S Rahman. I choose this college because the course fees are affordable compared to other colleges. For admission in HIMT college, we have apply for IMUCET entrance test and should get a rank. Then register in the particular college site for the particular course and they mail about when the interview will be. If got selected, then have to take medicals and finish the documentation.

The course structure is as per IMU syllabus. Total 9 subjects are there in which 5 are theory and 4 are practical. During the semester, there are CT1 and CT2 and the sem exam. The faculties are well experienced and approachable as well. There are captains and chief engineers as facilities. Some faculties are strict, some teach in a fun way. Everyone teaches in different way but if we didn't understand something, we can ask them anytime. Capt. Anand Subramaniam, Capt. Ravindran, Uma ma'am, Bharathi ma'am, Capt. Venkatraman, Capt. Himanshu etc are really good and I got to learn a lot from them. The exams are having moderate difficulty. If you are a average student, then it is fine to pass the exam. I personally don't think you can fail if you studied properly.

For the admission, they took an interview which is mainly HR and something's related to 12th standard. The criteria for admission are: should get IMUCET rank, 60.%and above for PCM subjects and also for English in both 10th and 12th standard.

Till 2200 we can roam around the campus. During that time we can play basketball, football, chess or even go to gym. Every batch has specific timing for gym. Gym is properly cleaned and maintained. There's a canteen in the college. It is little bit small compared to the people we have in our college . It's open from 16.30 to 21.30hrs. We are not supposed to go outside the college during weekdays. In sundays, we can go on shore leave. The college is little bit strict but it is for our own safety. HIMT doesn't tolerate smoking and drinking habits. It's strictly prohibited and they check our bags after coming back from shore leave.
