Course Curriculum Overview

3

The curriculum of University of North Bengal is at par with other colleges but there are few subjects which feels out dated. The curriculum does not help very much when it comes to real world applications you have to develop the skill on your own. The problem is that it is more theory based it gives you bookish knowledge but help very little on real world application that is the real improvement which is actually needed. Teaching method should be more interactive and we should be taught real world case studies which can actually help. The frequency of class is quite high it starts from 10am and go till 4pm in the evening its more like a school than college. The exams are held every semester end and you have to pass it . Difficulty is quite moderate not very easy or very hard but the marks are always given low.

Placement Experience

1

Placements were not there earlier. But our batch was the first one to get placement at St Joseph's College Darjeeling. To be honest It is not a college you should target if you are looking for placement. The companies were too small . The roles are way to entry level . Highest placement was around 40000 per month but it was an inside sales role so many opt out. There is not official data about placement . My plan was to look for off campus jobs.

Fees and Financial Aid

The yearly fees will be around Rs. 10000 each semester it will be around Rs. 5000. There is no registration fees but there is a security deposit of around Rs.1500 which you will get back at the end of college. There is hostel facility available and its quite big. Hostel charges are around Rs.6000 Per Month and security deposit of Rs.10000 will be returned after leaving. The fees for other courses may vary depending upon the facilities like lab amd other uses. There are scholarships available by West Bengal government such as Oasis, Swami Vivekananda Scholarship. There are need based scholarship also available.

Campus Life

3

Overall campus life is fantastic there are many clubs then There is NCC and NSS you can join both. They are good for your career. The library is great it has computer setup you can browse you can research and upskill yourself . But the books are all of old publishers which is a downside. The facilities are not that great classroms are big but there is only one smart board that is also in a single class rest class are spacious but only have blackboard. The sports facilites are not that great there is only one basketball court and there is only one badminton court in the auditorium. There are quite a lot of clubs the most famous one Rotary Club which is famous for social work. Student life in Darjeeling is quite great as its in hills and there is lot of peace.

Admission

As it was a period of lockdown in 2020 I applied in colleges like Siliguri college of commerce , Salesian college siliguri, Goenka college kolkata and St joseph's college darjeeling which was my college. Unfortunately I could not make it to Goenka College of commerce Kolkata , But I did made it to salesian College Siliguri and Siliguri College of Commerce but Salesian college fees was way too high and Siliguri College of Commerce had very negative reviews as nothing was good there. Then I researched about St Joseph's College Darjeeling it had the best reputation in entire North Bengal and the fees was quite affordable Faculties were good and Infrastructure was also fine so I choose this college . I would have gone to other colleges if lockdown was not there.

Faculty

4

There 6 faculties available . The problem is that one subject is taught by 2 faculties that's quite confusing sometimes rest the faculty members are supportive. The faculty ratio is a little less faculty : Student is 1:10. The most knowledgable faculties are SM sir and AL sir they teach you practical very nicely and are very supportive. There a faculty he is a good person but his teaching skills are not that great. There are exams every semester and they are quite competitive and not very easy . In 2023 there were highest fail perecentage of students in Our University especially in our St joseph's College many students from bcom programme failed the test. The course is quite updated I would say.

Interview Experience

1

No there were no group discussions or interview. I dont know about now. The process is completely on your marks and merit list will be made accordingly. There will be three merit list that will be out by college accordingly you will be called for admission.

Night Life

3

The night life around campus is not that great they do celebrate festivals but after 6pm college closes and as boys hostel is inside the campus you have to be in before 6pm. Cafeteria is there but does not have much to offer but outside college there are lot of cafes and other retaurant which is quite affordable. There are lots of hangout places inside and outside college every morning and evening you will get great views and out college is near Darjeeling ZOO you can visit in zoo anytime.

Course Curriculum Overview:

I choose the course the b.com because I want to become the CA but after completing the graduation my family condition was not very good so I quit my studies and searching for the job. My dream was after B.com then I complete M.com then CA but I couldn't do that. I'm pursuing because I'm interested in understanding how businesses work and want a solid foundation in commerce and finance. It opens up various career paths in accounting, finance, management, and more. Plus, it's a versatile degree that can lead to professional certifications like CA, CS, or MBA.

Course Curriculum Overview:

The course is of course outdated. Teaching methods are old. No case studies, competitions or project of any sort is there in the curriculum. Although a project of 100 marks is there in the final sem, but I don't think that's enough. There is no practicality in the curriculum and usability in career. The syllabus really needs an uplifment.
