What Students Say
Likes
- The campus is really well built and has good classrooms with air conditioners in every class ensuring student comfort.in
- Decent facilities for extra curricular activities like sports and metro connectivity as well.
Dislikes
- Same old rigid curriculum that is still being taught in Tier 3 engineering colleges through out the country
- Some of the faculty even though they may be knowledgeable themselves, fail to deliver their thoughts in an efficient way to the students
- Attendance criteria is relatively strict at around 80% on paper but you can still do with 70+ percentage.
Course Curriculum Overview
The curriculum includes basic engineering subjects during the first year and then OOP,DBMS,DSA and other computer engineering fundamentals. Then during the Third Year and Fourth Year the students have electives to choose their particular domain of interest. Mostly the useful stuff doesn't start until Third Year. So this could certainly be an area of improvement to remove out filler subjects. The last semester of the degree is completely a internship so there are only 7 semesters of studying.
Internships Opportunities
There are many different internship opportunities available. One is doing a research internship under a professor in the college itself , this is generally unpaid. There are companies offering internships with the the most common role being of the software developer intern. Although you getting stipend or not depends on your skill set.
Placement Experience
Students become eligible for placements from the 7th Semester and companies start visiting at that time. The no. of companies that visit are around 30+ and the highest package offered last time was around 25+ LPA. The average package is 7-8LPA. Some of the companies that visit are Accenture,TCS, Infosys, JP Morgan(students got placed from a Hackathon)
Fees and Financial Aid
242000 per year , this includes the examination and registration fees as well. There are many scholarship opportunities for example you can get a 50% waiver if your annual family income is less than 8LPA or you belong to SC or ST category. There is also a provision for full tuition waiver if you have a really good rank. This full tuition waiver is only based on merit and irrespective of family income.
Campus Life
There are 2 festivals held annually in the college, Tesseract(The technical fest) and Flare(The cultural fest). Tesseract is a 3 day event held in the odd semester in October that involves various activities from different science and tech clubs and it is concluded with an EDM night. Flare is also a 3 day event held in the even semester in March commencing with different activities by the social and cultural clubs and ends with an Artist Performance on the last Day (Previous performers include KK, Gajendra Varma,Sachet Parampara). The laboratories are well equipped and contain almost everything that you need. There is also a high end Apple Lab consisting solely of M1 iMacs and there are a few Mac Studios ss well. The library is well stocked and there are 3 of them throughout the campus. Each catering to different domains (Engineering,Liberal Studies, Management). The Sports facilities are also pretty good with a 400m track , Football Field , Basketball court , Tennis Court , Kabaddi Ground. The student run clubs are also a great way to network and get more out of your college experience.
Hostel Facilities
The hostel room is decently sized and shared between 3 people. Has your basic amenities like a wardrobe, bed, study table and an attached washroom (if you're in the new high rise hostel) otherwise a common one. The best amenity is that the Air Conditioner. Since you don't have to pay for electricity (since the college has a 1MW solar farm) you can keep the AC running practically 24/7. The Registration process is fairly easy and the hostel cost is competitively priced at 180000 for the whole year including food. The food in the mess is alright, you get 4 meals a day and eggs in the morning and evening and non-veg is available twice a week. The food is okay for a hostel. There are options to rent flats nearby and share it with other students although it will be difficult finding one that accepts bachelor students as tenants. But it does come with it's perks of freedom. There are other PGs and Hostels as well if you don't find accomodation in the University run hostel.
Admission
The other college that I planned on getting into was Nirma University but I couldn't meet the cutoff and hence I had to make do with PDEU. So this was actually my second option. The admission process of the university is JEE and GUJCET. So you can give either of these exams and then the counselling process is done through ACPC. Generally THE GUJCET cutoff is easier to meet. The overall admission process is pretty smooth and hassle free as you would expect from a university which charges you 2 and a half lakhs per annum
Faculty
The faculty to student ratio is approximately 1:25. Faculties are pretty chill and approachable. There are generally 2 written exams per semester. One Mid Semester and One End Semester exam. The Mid Semester exam is of 25 marks and contributes to 25% of the marks of a subject. The End Semester exam is of 100 marks and contributes to 50% of the weightage. The remaining 25% of the marks are a component of the Internal Assessment and include quizes, assignments and projects. The exams are moderately difficult and easy if you study regularly but it is still possible to clear them by pulling an all nighter, although I wouldn't recommend it. The course curriculum as I said before is pretty similar to other tier 3 colleges but there have been recent updates to make it more relevant to current industry trends. Faculty Members are also pretty mixed with some demanding discipline and order while others being more liberal and understanding.
Night Life
First of all the Locality is really safe and there have been close to zero shady incidents up until. But would still suggest to take precautions like avoiding dimly lit and empty streets. Mostly after a hectic day , students enjoy a game of football or tennis or go to the gym. There are some local spots and cafes which students like going to as well. But since the college hostel has a time restriction of 10:30 , post which you need to get a permission to stay out , there isn't much of a nightlife per se.
Other Applied Colleges
Institute of Technology, Nirma University | Bachelor of Technology [B.Tech] (Computer Science and Engineering)
I didn't get admission in this particular college because the cutoff was higher due to it's superior placements and it being a more established university compared to PDEU
