Course Curriculum Overview

5

The curriculum is excellent. If you aim to pursue an M.Sc. or Ph.D., the foundational training in Real Analysis, Group Theory, and Ring Theory is world-class. It builds the "mathematical maturity" required for higher research. While the curriculum includes LaTeX and Mathematica/MATLAB in practicals, the connection to high-demand fields like Quantitative Finance, Machine Learning, or Cryptography is often theoretical rather than hands-on.Following the Semester System, exams occur twice a year (Nov/Dec and May/June). Additionally, you face Internal Assessments (Class Tests/Assignments) usually around the 8th and 12th week of the semester

Internships Opportunities

4

Hansraj College's Internship Cell offers B.Sc. Math students roles in Data Analytics (DE Shaw, ZS Associates), Finance (EY, Deloitte), and Actuarial Science. Stipends range from ?15,000 to ?50,000. Projects involve predictive modeling and statistical risk analysis. Outcomes include automated financial dashboards and data-driven business insights. Additionally, the DU VC Internship Scheme provides research opportunities with a stipend of upto ?10,500.

Placement Experience

4

Students generally become eligible to participate in the campus placement process starting from their 5th semester (3rd year). However, the Placement Cell often starts organizing pre-placement talks, skill-building workshops, and internship drives as early as the 3rd or 4th semester to prepare students for the final recruitment season. It has a highest package around 23lpa and a average 8 lpa. the placement rate typically ranges between 70% to 85% for those who actively register and participate in the placement process.

Fees and Financial Aid

Academic Fees: Tuition Fee ?180, Lab Fee ?500, and College Lab Maintenance ?2,500. Administrative/Fixed Charges: Admission Fee ?5, University Enrolment ?200, and I-Card ?250. Development & Maintenance: College Development Fund (?3,000), College Maintenance ?2,500) and Portal/Network Charges (?4,000). Deposits & Miscellaneous: Security Refundable Deposit (?300), Research & Publication (?1,200), and Student Insurance (?100).

Campus Life

5

Hansraj is known for having some of the best infrastructure in Delhi University's North Campus. One of the largest in DU, housing over 137,000 books and a massive collection of 9,200+ in the Book BankFully air-conditioned and automated using RFID technology and the KOHA management system. You can easily locate books via the OPAC. Typically held in March/April, this is the big one. It features celebrity performances, competitive dance, music, and fashion shows. The college website and various society-run Instagram handles act as the main "portals" for real-time updates on internal assessments, attendance, and events.

Admission

I chose Hansraj because it strikes a perfect balance. While St. Stephen’s felt a bit too "school-like" with its strict attendance and dress codes, and Hindu was heavily politically charged, Hansraj offered a research-oriented environment with arguably the best lab facilities for Mathematics in the university. The department’s focus on software like Mathematica and LaTeX gave it an edge for someone looking at data science or actuarial paths later.

Faculty

4

Most faculty members are highly approachable, especially during their "off hours" in the staff room. They are quite supportive if you show genuine interest in the subject.i like kapil kumar sir and harjeet mam very much. Both explains every complex questions very easily and clarifies our every doubt. covers Core papers like Calculus, Linear Algebra, Group Theory, and Multivariate Calculus. It also includes DSE (Discipline Specific Electives) and Skill Enhancement Courses (SEC).

Night Life

3

Nightlife at Hansraj centers on Kamla Nagar and Hudson Lane's cafes. Students unwind at Sudama Tea Stall or "LP" before hostel curfews (9:00/10:00 PM). While the gym and library close early, the vibrant, student-filled streets remain safe for late-night food runs, fostering a close-knit community beyond rigorous daytime academics.
