Course Curriculum Overview

4

The course curriculum becomes relevant starting from 2nd year as 1st year subjects are basically useless at this day and age. From 2nd year the curriculum shifts to a proper Computer based course. Although it is based on our interests to achieve further knowledge about the subject which is not present in the syllabus provided. There are mid sem exams almost after 1 month of starting the course which are generally easy and end sem exams are another month after the mid sem exams, which are considered to be tougher than the mid sem exams.

Internships Opportunities

4

There are many internship opportunities provided at the starting of 3rd year and also at the starting or 4th year by companies like flipkart, oracle(which is consistent every year), visa, de shaw and many others. The stipend varies depending on the company, De shaw offered 3 Lakh stipend whereas Flipkart offered around 2 lakhs and Oracle offered 1.5 lakh stipend.

Placement Experience

4

There are internship opportunities at the starting of 3rd year and job opportunities at the starting or 4th year. This year many companies visited the campus which include DE Shaw, Flipkart, Oracle, TCS, VISA(for summer internship drive), and various start-ups like Sarvam AI and many more. Highest package was 56.8LPA by DE Shaw. Flipkart took a total of 20 candidates (12 were selected for 34.5LPA and 8 for internship opportunities). Average package going around 9LPA. TCS mass recruited candidates for around 4 LPA, and ORACLE has been consistent at taking candidates for 24 to 25 LPA. Percentage of Students placed for CSE branch is 90. Many students opt for M Tech courses via GATE exam after getting their degree.

Fees and Financial Aid

For general candidates the fees are 1,43,000 per semester including hostel fees. The tuition fees are around 90,000. Caution fees 7,000. Development fees, Lab fees, Wifi fee, Library fee, Placement fee all are 20,000. Hostel fees are 26,000 for single seater room and 14000 for triple seater rooms. For Odisha category they have fee waiver which reduces the total fee paid drastically depending on your Caste or Income. There are scholarship opportunities for top 3 CGPA students of the class, First getting 20,000. Second gets 15,000 and Third gets 10,000.

Campus Life

3

The campus life here is decent not too good not too bad. There is an annual fest called ADVAITA which is considered to be the best and it is held during March. There are many fests taking place every week, the college is consistent regarding fests. The library provides a wide range of books which covers all the topics which are required for completed the syllabus thoroughly. The facilities are outdated. Sports and extra-curricular activities are very less in the campus as there are very less grounds or facilities regarding sports. There are many societies run by students which include Tech, Discipline, Art, Dance and many more.

Hostel Facilities

4

For single rooms, starting from 2nd year we are provided with Cushion chairs, bed with a mattress, cupboard, study table, foot-wear stand, Tubelight and a fan. This year IRCTC is providing the catering services so the food is very good. Breakfast is 30 rupees. Lunch and Dinner both being 55 rupees. For single rooms, only the top cgpa achievers are given a chance and it is quite good for 26,000 per semester.

Admission

I have applied to various other IIIT's, but at my rank every other IIIT was under construction or there was no proper hostel facilities or they were being developed or the fees were high (about 26 lakhs for the whole 4 years) or it was too far away from my home. I chose this college as it had decent single room facilities apart from others. The college accepts candidates through JOSAA couselling for all india category students, and Odisha couselling for Odisha category students.

Faculty

4

The faculty provided to the Computer science and engineering batch is very favourable till date as they are very good at what they teach. The faculty are approachable, there is no restriction. For CSE branch the faculty for Design and Analysis of Algorithm was top-notch as the teacher taught everything perfectly. Although there are bad faculty members too who don't teach properly, they just read what is in the ppt slide and end the session. There are mid sem exams and end sem exams of 30 marks and 50 marks respectively. The other 20 marks compromises 15 marks for quiz and 5 marks for Teacher's Assessment. The exams are pretty simple being subject related. The course curriculum is very relevant.

Night Life

3

We are not advised to go outside the hostel premises after 10:00 pm for boys and 9:30 pm for girls. The gym culture is pretty good here, which opens from 5am to 8am in the morning and 5pm to 9pm in the evening. The libraries are open from 8 am to 8 pm from Monday to Saturday. There are no famous hangout places as the college is very small.

Siksha 'O' Anusandhan University - [SOA], Bachelor of Technology [B.Tech] (Computer Science and Engineering)
Reviewed on Jan 9, 2026(Enrolled 2023)

Course Curriculum Overview:

1. Relevance & Comprehensiveness (Rating: 7/10) The course curriculum at SOA is updated frequently compared to state government colleges. Why I chose this: I was attracted to the fact that the syllabus includes modern electives like Artificial Intelligence, Cloud Computing, and Data Analytics starting from the 3rd year itself, rather than waiting for the final semester. Real-world Prep: The curriculum is designed largely to crack placement interviews. There is a heavy focus on Aptitude and Core Coding subjects (DS/Algo) which helps in getting a job. However, for deep research or R&D roles, the theoretical depth is sometimes lacking. 2. Areas for Improvement Teaching Methods: A major issue is the reliance on PowerPoint Presentations (PPTs). Many faculty members just read off the slides. I would prefer more "Whiteboard Teaching" for mathematical and logic-based subjects. Lab Records: We spend hours handwriting practical records/files which are just copied from the manual. This is a waste of time. This time should be used for live coding projects or hackathons. Outdated Subjects: First-year students (even in CS/IT) are forced to learn heavy mechanical/civil concepts. While basics are good, the depth of these non-core subjects should be reduced. 3. Exam System & Difficulty Frequency: It is quite hectic. We have 2 semesters a year. Each semester has 2 Internal Assessments (Quizzes/Mid-sems) and 1 End-Semester Exam. Basically, you have an exam every 1.5 to 2 months. Difficulty: The exams are Easy to Moderate. It is not very difficult to pass. If you study the "Class Notes" and "Previous Year Questions" for 3-4 days before the exam, you can easily score an 8.0 SGPA. The checking is lenient for passing, but strict if you are aiming for a 9.5+ SGPA.

I actually have a very little idea about placements of our uni few seniors says there is not a single company visiting, while few were discussing the highest placement which was something like 20lpa or something,i think companies do visit our campus it may not be much but i have definetly seen one or two companies visiting. I plan to do MBA after my Btech so i am not that serious about whether i am getting placed or not.

Gandhi Engineering College (GEC Autonomous), Bachelor of Technology [B.Tech] (Computer Science and Engineering)
Reviewed on Dec 22, 2025(Enrolled 2023)

Course Curriculum Overview:

I mainly chose this course because the college is Autonomous, which allows them to update the syllabus faster than standard university colleges; seeing subjects like Python and Data Science in the early semesters really influenced my decision. The curriculum is decent for getting placed in service-based companies like TCS or Wipro since they focus heavily on the basics and aptitude, though for high-end product roles or research, you have to put in extra effort yourself. I definitely think they need to reduce the theory load and focus more on practical coding because sometimes it feels like we are just writing assignments instead of building things. Also, the junior faculty rely too much on reading from slides, which really needs to change to make classes more engaging. As for exams, it feels like we are always writing them since we have two internals and one end-semester exam per term. They are moderately difficult and the checking is strict, so you can't slack off, but the tight schedule can get quite exhausting.
