What Students Say
Likes
- Since it is a women's college, the vibe in the campus in different. It brings up a vibe of community and free expression around all the girls. Many women centric initiatives are seen in the campus like period care, skincare, self defense etc.
- The campus life is enriching as DRC has many cultural clubs that are quite active. The peer group is high quality. Meals, events, keep taking place every now and then. Quite a fun experience to be in the college year around.
- The course of b.com hons although rigorous, is going to help develop a strong backing for higher courses and help back you with confidence in public speaking skills, presentation skills, research and excel skills.
Dislikes
- The placement opportunities if can be improved will be a great addition.
- The campus is compact but now the new buildings are being built and used so it is an improvement.
- The faculty should try and incorporate more with the students on a personal level.
Course Curriculum Overview
The b.com hons course of DU is highly relevant for higher education. It is a reputed course here in DU and holds great significance in further discourse. The curriculum is designed well according to real life market needs. The subjects like law, principles of marketing, financial management, business maths, accounting are highly relevant in higher studies. The practical component of these subjects like TALLY, EXCEL can be used in real life job roles. For me the curriculum is fit enough, and needs no major improvement. The frequency of assignments, tests keep you up with the syllabus and the end semester exams are hectic. It can be a little hectic but it is manageable with proper smart planning on important topics and relevance in exam pov. The difficulty level is moderate for the exams.
Internships Opportunities
There are many companies, NGOs that visit the placement fest called Vriddhi. It invites many companies for internships. People get placed for internships in the roles of analyst, consultant, etc. Companies like Accenture, Deloitte, wipro are common.
Placement Experience
From the 3rd year, the students become eligible to participate in placement. The placement cell is available in the college. But the number of placements is a little less as compared to other north campus colleges. Many companies have come for placement and internship. But many students prefer CA,CFA or other professional courses or MBA for higher studies. I plan to give CAT for MBA after my course gets over.
Fees and Financial Aid
For my 1st year I had paid 34000 while admitting in the college. For my 2nd year I have paid 31250. So it varies according to the fee structure every year. This includes everything altogether except examination fees and hostel fees(I have not opted for it). The examination fees are to be paid while filling the exam form and ranges around 1100-1500 depending on the subjects chosen.
Campus Life
The college holds the annual fest, Manjari around March - April. It is improving in matters of artists and experience every year. All other clubs and societies hold their annual events during this time. I am in the Indian music society, Alahyaa of DRC which is highly active and pretty popular in the Indian music society circle of DU. We hold a choir competition called Aaroh during this time. The library is fully equipped with books, wifi and proper seating arrangement. Labs for both science and commerce department is active. The students can register for sports, ncc, nss, dance clubs, debating societies, placement cell, music societies, art club and other various societies present in the college.
Admission
I applied to a few other colleges in the north campus of DU over this college. I couldn't get into those because of higher cutoffs in CUET. I had scored 747 in the cuet exam and converted this college as per the cutoffs of previous year. The admission process was smooth as easy over online methods.
Faculty
The faculty in Daulat Ram college is pretty good for the course of b.com hons. For a class of about 50-60 students there are about 1-2 teachers assigned for each subject depending on the practical and tutorial elements. It is easily manageable for them and the students too. The faculties are approachable in matters of doubts, assignments and academic help. A few faculties that I have personally liked in my course are- Dr. Anjali Bennet ma'am. She is very cooperative and allows a lot of relaxation in case of deadlines. Eases the overall pressure on a student. Ghazala ma'am, took quite some effort to complete all the syllabus and practical work, beyond class times even though she is a guest faculty and joined late to the class. Himanshu Shekhar Sir, is deeply enrooted in his subject of Law and teaches very nicely. Isha Bhatt ma'am is also a very nice faculty. Explains well and is approachable. No particular faculty is as such to be disliked. But I wish they could interact with students more on their personal level regarding matters of mental health, academic pressure, etc. The core discipline specific subjects have two elements in the exam. The total marks is of 160. 90 marks are given by the end of semester exam. These are written exams and include full syllabus. The paper pattern is consistent and the exam difficultly varies year wise. But the PYQs are a real gem. You can use them to pass the exams well with good marks. Many students clear the exam with minimum but smart preparation. The course curriculum is also very relevant according to higher courses and exam pov. The other 70 marks are a given by IA and CA (internal assessment and continuous assessment) It includes a combination of test, assignments, presentation/practical exam, viva voce depending on the course curriculum, and attendance marks. You have to pass in IA and CA compulsorily.
Night Life
The college usually is open till 6 in the evening. Students usually enjoy the canteen area for refreshments, it has Amul, Nestle and the college canteen itself. The food is nice and prices very affordable. Outside the college, you can enjoy vendors like momos, parathe, laphing, shikanji, shakes, maggi, chai. The whole line extends including all North campus colleges. The night life is busy and students can be seen late in the evening walking around. Majnu ka tilla, kamla nagar, Hudson lane are popular eating and shopping areas. It is pretty safe to travel with friends.
