Remarks

Our college is a great college in all respects but few suggestions I would like to list some of the suggestions that the college can improve in future : 1) Improvement of faculty members 2)Installions of A.Cs in all the classrooms 3) Modifications in college hours in winters as it becomes too painfull to get up at 4:30 AM and attend the college right at 6:00 AM.

Course Curriculum Overview

3.5

For me the course curriculum is moderate. The course is friendly towards CA students as more than half of the syllabus is similar to CA curriculum. I found the exam structure to be good as each year is brocken into 2 semesters which further comprises of internal examinations which ultimately helps a student to have a strong hold in the subjects. Seminar / project work is held on every Saturdays followed by the internal exams.

Placement Experience

4.5

I think the placement cell of our college is one of the best placement cell in India. Here one can get lot of opportunities in area of work as lot of companies including blue chip companies turns up every year.Even number of companies are increasing every year.It is open to diversified work areas. Our college do provide a lot of internships opportunities. I applied in a couple of offers but I did not get placed because I also handle my family business but still I would recommend to the students studying in this college to exploit the placement opportunities as it can open doors to heaven if they are selected in any reputed company. Joining any work through this college would not only give you a better pay but would also enhance your resume specially if your planning to do MBA.

College Events

4.5

Every year an annual fest 'Xavotsav' is celebrated in the month of january. They organize the fest in beautifull manner. The fest lasts for 3 days which includes variety of competition where students from other colleges also take part. So it is a memorable for one to participate and attend. Every year on 26th of January our alumni network hosts a singing concert in our college where they invite a celebrity from music industry . This year and last year there were Neha Kakkar and Shreya Ghoshal respectively.

Fee Structure And Facilities

The fee structure is expensive with respect to the facility provided but the college is utilizing the fund towards building a great infrastructure which will help the students in every way in the coming future.Given the fees, the college should first utilize the fund on providing best faculties which is the first priority for the students at the current time.

Fees and Financial Aid

I have not availed of any scholarship/loan provided by the college but I know one of my friend who has got cash reward for securing highest marks in an year.Besides this our college also provide concession on railway tickets who comes from outside Kolkata

Campus Life

4.5

Our college organizes host of sports each year in a professional manner for example cricket, football, basketball, table tennis. Our students have also represented the college in international arena. Our college has a huge playground and maintenance takes place with due care. There is also a separate indoor games room where any student can play at any time.I would recommend the students that if they are interested in any sports they should inform the sports department to make better utilisation of their sports talent. Students also gets placed through sports quota and who can forget that our very own Sourav Ganguly had also got placed in St.Xavier's through sports quota.

Alumni/Alumna

Our alumni network comprises of a large pool of emminent persons mainly from business background. Donations come in huge numbers from .Some celebrities such as L.N.Mittal are still attached to the college even passing out from the college long ago. So I personally would recommend you to join our alumni association because it would help you to know and understand the persons from reputed fields. It would develop a strong network and you may get good opportunities in future whether you are in business or job. Joining the alumni association would help you to get placed in a positive humanitarian environment which develops your personal skills.

Admission

Admission process was quite simple. Admission is purely based on your plus 2 level scores which is based on best 4 subjects including maths and english. First of all you have to fill an application form which is done completely online and then if you are shortlisted (based on your marks) you will be called for an interview which is just a casual interview basically to verify the information you have submitted while filing the form and thus the admission process gets completed. Disclosure: Criteria for selecting students may have changed.

Faculty

3

Finance and accounting faculties are not as par with the reputation of the college. But overall I can say that if a student has willingness to learn he/she can make better use of the faculty's lessons. There are always ready to help after college and some professors also share their phone numbers so that a student can get his/her doubts cleared any time.

Placements in my college are decent but not very high. students usually become eligible from the final year and few companies visit for roles like accounting assistant, sales, customer service. The average package is usually around Rs.2LPA-Rs.3LPA.

Due to NEP the course has been more developed to the students and teachers also explain the topocs to us very clearly and the thing should be change that the timing of the paper are at morning time which is at 7:30am it should be 10 or 10:30 because this time the students get late to the paper and didnt get time to prep.

Course Curriculum Overview:

One of the key aspects of the curriculum that influenced my decision to choose the B.Com course at Sydenham College was its strong foundation in core commerce subjects such as Accounting, Economics, Business Law, and Finance. The structured progression from basic to advanced concepts, along with exposure to subjects like taxation and auditing, made the program particularly appealing for students aiming for careers in finance, CA, CS, or management.

Placements society of college is just a decade old and still top companies like Zues Capital, Barclays, and Icici bank are among the top colleges that have become a part of ecosystem where 30-40 students is what each companies hires every year. Not many though as too many sections and 500+ students means getting placed even half the students can be a task where Mithibai placement percentage is 60 odd percentage.
