Remarks
The college definitely has both it's pros and cons, I am fairly satisfied with the overall experience as a student of Syamaprasad College. However a little improvement here and there such as co-curricular activities, hygiene in the premises would take the college a long way.
Course Curriculum Overview
I'd say the curriculum is fairly okay but could be difficult for students who find it unable to cope up with. The year is divided into two semesters, with the course having a total of six semesters. Each semester is roughly six months in duration. At the end of each semester, the semester examination takes place in an external examination centre. Each semester has a compulsory Ability Enhancement Course (AEC) and five compulsory elective subjects. Each subject has a theory paper of 80 marks. Additionally, 10 marks would be for attendance and 10 marks for discipline and conduct. Environmental Studies would be an exception to this system as out of 80 marks, 50 marks is for theory paper and the remaining 30 would be for a given project. A student must score at least 24 in the theory papers and 6 for either attendance and conduct to pass the subject. If the student fails to secure the pass marks in one or more subjects, he/she will have to give a supplementary examination the following year for the subjects in which he/she has failed. The student must give the supplementary examinations until he/she passes all the subjects. For each semester examination and for every supplementary examination, a certain amount of examination fees must be paid in order to obtain the admit card. This payment has to be done through the SBI Portal.
Placement Experience
The college itself does not provide any job opportunities whatsoever. External organisations occasionally conduct seminars for internship and job opportunities, but they neither initiated by nor are affiliated to the college.
College Events
No festivals are celebrated in the college. A freshers party for new students is held every year. Occasional fests are organised and held, and the college also takes part in fests organised by other colleges. Notable Indian celebrities are also invited in the college fests as special guests.
Fee Structure And Facilities
The fees structure is not too expensive. It is affordable even for students who come from lower middle class family backgrounds. The admission fees would be around 3,200 rupees and each examination fees would be around 450 rupees.
Fees and Financial Aid
There is no scholarship or loan facility arranged by college. However, similar to the internship feature, external organisations occasionally conduct seminars in the college for scholarship opportunities. Interested students may apply in these organisations. However, these are also neither initiated by nor affiliated to the college.
Campus Life
Extra curricular activities are not given much importance in the college. Teachers usually select students as the sports team members based on their physical condition and fitness level. There are occasional inter-college sport competitions where these team members would represent our college and play the sport. Table tennis and football are the most played sports in our college.
Hostel Facilities
No hostels are provided by the college. However, there are Guest houses around the college particularly made for students who have come from far away places. These guest houses, however, are considerably expensive and are suitable only for students from a wealthier background.
Alumni/Alumna
The senior students have their club namely "the Students Union". These clubs have pages and groups in all popular social media platforms and this helps in fast enquiry regarding anything related to college, examinations, fees, etc. Most of the senior students are helpful and friendly.
Admission
I applied for admission online through the college official website. A certain amount of admission fees was to be paid online through SBI Portal and I completed the procedure. The e-receipt of payment of admission fees was printed by me and submitted to the college along with my 10th and 12th marksheets and admit cards, passport size photographs, and Aadhar card. After reviewing the documents they gave the college stamp on my e-receipt and the admission procedure was complete.
Faculty
The faculty has been made carefully keeping in mind the diversity of the students and so I'd say it's fine. The classes start at 5 pm. Each class is about forty minutes in duration. In my first semester we would have five classes. The frequency and consistency of classes reduced as we moved up higher in standard.
