Remarks
B. Borooah College is a prestigious college in Assam and students from all corners of the state attend this college. It is and hopefully it will always stay a top choice for students of this region. There is a competitive academic environment in the college. But that doesn't stop the students from excelling in literary and cultural activities.
Course Curriculum Overview
The course is huge and offers less time for self study. Every year they conduct two main exams, one even semester and one odd semester. Each semester runs for 4-5 months and there are mid semester examinations as well.
Placement Experience
The college doesn't offer professional courses but only general courses and therefore it is hard to find a very good placement immediately after completing B.Sc. or B.A. However there is a functional placement cell in the college and some companies do come for requirement. No, it doesn't provide any internship.
College Events
Youth Conclave which is the annual festival is celebrated every year within the first quarter of the year. It features various entertainment and competitive events in various segments. National Science Day, Teachers' Day, Freshman Social are among other notable events. The annual sports week is another weeklong event. Apart from these some other academic and cultural events are also conducted from time to time like cultural rallies and plays.
Fee Structure And Facilities
In my opinion the fee structure is feasible and needy students can also avail free admissions by providing valid proofs. One time fee has to be paid for one entire year and that is around 7-8k per year i.e. for two semesters.
Fees and Financial Aid
Ishan Uday Special Scholarship Scheme is a scholarship for North Eastern Region offered by UGC to the top 10,000 students as per marks scored in 10+2 that are currently enrolled in any graduation course in any UGC recognised college. Students of our college can also avail this scholarship. Apart from this there are state govt. schemes. The college also has a specific fund to help a few needy students.
Campus Life
Laboratory facilities could be better but aren't very poor. No indoor or outdoor stadium for sports is available. There's a small college ground where arrangements for volleyball and badminton are made
Alumni/Alumna
Senior students are helpful and most of them stay in touch with the college. Yes, there is an active alumni network in the college. The individual departments also maintain a good link between the students and their alumni.
Admission
Admission is purely based on the Marks scored in your previous exam. Average cut off marks for general category students is about 410/500. But the students have to appear in selection exams for obtaining a major in most of the disciplines.
Faculty
The professors are well qualified and properly trained. Most of them are highly experienced, very helpful and motivating. They encourage a healthy and friendly bonding between the students and the teachers.
