A comprehensive brief of IIM Rohtak IPL Programme

honestly, the curriculum didn't play much part for me to decide whether to enroll in this course. the structure of a 5yr law program is more or less same. you get more ba/bba subjects in initial years with little law and then gradually the law portion increases with only law subjects in 4th and 5th year. there are students in this program who want to pursue their further academics in management field. the management subjects in our curriculum are top notch and those are what IIMs are known for. the curriculum and teaching methods are upto the mark. now, the exams are what every student here is concerned about. we have exams in almost in every 40 days. it feels like you just gave exams and here they are again. and that too continuous without any preparatory leaves. you have 8 exams in 7 days out of which one is sunday so 8 exams in 6 working days. twice you have 2 exams in one day. i think if this could be reduced to exams once per term and rest to be marked on basis of internals then it would be great!

honestly, you have to reach out yourself to various institutions, body corporates, firms for internships. you get some help from the placement and internship committee but that's it. some law firms with whom my seniors have interned with are khaitan & co., luthra, cyril amarchand, induslaw with stipend ranging from 10000-20000 or above. you may also have to undertake unpaid internships in your initial years.

i think the students become eligible for placements from the 13th term. our first batch hasn't graduated yet. they are due to graduate in 2026. but certain law firms which have visited our college and have offered internships to our students are Khaitan & Co., Luthra, Cyril Amarchand Mangaldas, IndusLaw. Honestly, I have not decided yet what career i would want to pursue but yes, having a campus placement in hand definitely gives a sense of security. I may pursue an LLM after this or may enter into litigation.

the year wise tution fees is on avg. 600000 p.a. plus/minus 50000 depending upon the year. total tuition fees is approx 30L for 5 yrs but it is on a rise. it has become 32L for upcoming batch. development fees is rs. 10000 p.a. hostel + mess fees is approx 90000 p.a. there are SC,ST and need based scholarships available. merit based scholarship is also given to top 5 students of the batch.

Our annual fest - Infusion is usually held around January. It is a mix of fest and competitions and usually lasts about 3-4 days. As for the library, it is the biggest building in the campus with ample study material but a little scarce on law books. But we have access to a lot of online portals and journals such as SCC, Manupatra, EBC, Cengage which caters to all our academic requirements. The classrooms are well equipped with projectors, screen, speaker, mic etc. They also have wifi and charging ports beneath the benches. We have a huge ground that serves for cricket, football and volleyball. There is a sports activity centre which has indoor badmintin courts, gym, TT, chess, carrom. There are student committees such as the academic comm, placement and internship comm, cultural comm, sports comm. Some event is organised almost every week by one or the other committee which is vital for student engagement. The PIC also helps students to get internships while the acadmic committee is the first to reach out in case of any curriculum/ discipline related issue.

your room may/may not be spacious depending upon your luck and the hostel you are allotted. in the room you are provided with a wifi, a table+chair, bunk beds and an almirah. you may get an additional cupboard if you get a spacious room. you may have attached/common toilet again based on your hostel. the rooms are air conditioned and you have to pay the electricity charges. the mess food is fine i would not say it is very good or very bad. it can get better but it is still reasonable given that many colleges' mess are very poor. menu is very diverse. the registration process for hostel and mess is quite simple you don't have to do much formalities. i think the hostel is affordable at 30000 p.a. i guess they've increased the price for the next batch.

I applied to iim indore, jammu, bodh gaya and ranchi out of which i wasn't able to clear the cut off for indore amd jammu. i got selected in bodh gaya and ranchi in bba+mba but preferred rohtak over them due to better ranking, location and proximity to my home. i also gave cuet and applied for bcom hons and eco hons. i got bcom hons in Kirorimal College but preferred iim rohtak. i also got ba llb in bhu but left it. one of the biggest factors was the IIM tag associated with this course which every student dreams of. As for the admission process, it was not much of a lengthy thing. it was short and just a day's process. selected students got an email offering provsional admission to the course. You had to pay the offer acceptance amount of 1 lakh by a stipulated date and then report on campus on the specified date. it took about an hour to fulfill all the formalities and the hostels were allotted subsequently. the orientation was conducted over the next three days. every 12th pass student with more than 60% can apply. i think there is an age cap of 20 yrs. They take admissions through IPMAT Rohtak and CLAT. i think the admission through CLAT is easier as people with even 5000-6000 rank made to the PI round. overall admission experience was smooth

the faculties are approachable thru the CRs as well as their personal contact. they're quite learned and good at conveying what needs to be conveyed. the faculties are very good. they focus on doubt clearing and adjust their pace of teaching acc. to the grasping capacity of the students. they give time to the topic which needs it. some of the best faculties are Mr. Akshay, Mr. Harsh Pratap and Mr. Achintya Arora all of whose names you can find on institute's website also. in first year there were total 22 subjects spread over three terms. there are mid term and end term exams in each terms. so you have exams 6 times in an year. all exams carry equal weightage. so in an year you have a total of 22 x 6 = 132 papers. you have 6-8 exams straight in a week without any preparatory leaves. you also have 2 exams in a day. in every 3rd term you have an internship which carries 3 credits. in other terms you have term projects(research papers). the grade point in a subject is cumulative of mid term score, end term score, class participation, assignments, presentations, quizes. mid term + end term collectively carry 60% weightage of the grade. rest is divided amongst other components based on the choice of course instructor. the difficulty of exams depends totally upon the faculty. however i haven't found any exam very tough so far. as far is passing rate is concerned, you cannot score more than 3 Ds or 1F+2Ds or 2 Fs in an year and your year end gpa should be not less than 4 in order to promote to next year. in my batch so far around 7-8 students have left so far as they were told to repeat due to low grade in first year. the course curriculum is very diverse and there is something for each student coming from different background. the law subjects are regulated by BCI and the management subjects are already top notch.

i gave the IPMAT Rohtak. they also admit students thru CLAT. if your clat rank is around 5000-6000 then you can easily make it to the interview round. the ipmat syllabus consisted of quantitative aptitude, logical reasoning, verbal ability(english) and a bit of higher level maths. there were additional 20 questions of legal reasoning for those who opted for IPL. the interview was simple and straight forward. first they ask for your introduction and then there is a extempore. then they ask some Current affairs+gk ques. then they ask a lot from your subjects in class 11th and 12th. that's it. it took about 15 minutes. the elegibility criteria is 60% in 12th and there is an age cap of 20 years. i took coaching for the preparation of written test as well as the interview.

the gym has a paid membership of rs. 375/month. the equipments are satisfactory. the morning timings are 6-9 and evening timings are 4:30 - 11pm. as for cafeteria, we have 2 UG mess and 2 PG mess. their timings are 8-9 breakfast, 1-2 lunch, 5-6 evening snacks, 8-9 dinner. we also have a nescafe outlet. the library is vast and its timings are from 9 am to 9 pm. you have to report inside the hostel at night by a certain time depending upon your batch. the timings for 1st years is 8:30 pm. we can go out of campus on sundays from 10am to 5 pm given we have to attend yoga 5 days a week. for applying a holiday also you need to have 70% weekly yoga attendance. it is totally safe for you to roam around the campus at night. just make sure you aren't roaming on restricted areas and report to your hostel on time. there is not much to see or visit around outside the campus. there is night canteen available from which you can order snacks late night such as maggi, chips, omlette etc
