Course Curriculum Overview

4

The course curriculum is well structured and comprehensive, but the syllabus is somewhat in descending order, making it challenge for first year students to grasp. Another concern is the exam schedule. There should be a proper 6 month gap between each semester exam

Placement Experience

3

Overall the placement cell is great especially for the B.com and BBA students. But the placement for sociology department is limited. Most of the students in our batch are planning to do masters or mba.

Fees and Financial Aid

fees of each semester are around rupees 18500, with the last semester being slightly higher at rupees 20000. For the entire three-year program( 6 semesters), the total fee comes out to be approximately rupees 1,20,000.

Campus Life

4

First thing there is no involvement of any political parties, thus no external influence. It is a plus point. Campus life at my college has been overall good, with the higligh being the wonderful frinedships i have formed. The college offers various clubs which caters to different interests, which is a great way to explore new passions and talents.

Admission

I applied to several colleges, including ashutosh, Jadavpur university, Presidency, Maulana Azad, and Gokhale Memorials Girl's college. After receiving selection offers from Ashutosh, Gokhale, Maulana Azad and Shikshayatan, I weighed my options. Maulana Azad was rules out due to its distance from my home. Gokhale was eliminated as it did not offer sociology. Ultimately I chose Shri Shikshayatan over Ashutosh

Faculty

4

As a student at this college I have a mixed experience. On the positive side the faculty is knowledgeable. The notes provided are helpful. Regular attendance can make additional tution unnecessary. The faculty student relationship is generally positive. The CBCS system with six semesters can be challenging, and the average scoring in our college is not as high compared to other colleges under Calcutta University.

Night Life

2

As a day scholar I commuted to college from home daily, which means I didn't expect hostel life or the nightlife that often comes with it. After college, my friends and I would often grab a bit at nearby restaurants or cafes. Given the local demographics, most of these eateries were vegetarian friendly. The area around the college is notably safe with both army and police establishments with a 5 minutes distance.

Other Applied Colleges

Gokhale Memorial Girls' College | Bachelor of Arts [BA] {Hons.} (Political Science)

Political science was my second choice and they did not have sociology as a course.

Course Curriculum Overview:

There are several prospects, especially peer-to-peer counseling, where you get a mentor. We call it mentor mentee program. So, there will be groups of students, and each group will have a mentor who helps you whenever you face any issues whether in real life or in your academic journey. They’re always there for you. There are also remedial classes, and extracurricular activities are included in the curriculum. You even get the freedom to choose what you want to pursue creatively, like joining poetry clubs and similar groups. Right now, I’m at Banaras University, and the curriculum here is really good. We have sessions on public speaking, how to conduct interviews, and many other practical skills. These are highly commendable because they help you in professional situations like the one I’m in now. However, I would say that teachers could be a bit more active with electronic tools like using PPT presentations or audio-visual methods instead long lecture sessions. As for exams, I wouldn’t say they’re too difficult because there are many weekly assessments and sessionals, which actually help you evaluate yourself better.

Course Curriculum Overview:

I used to read so many novels from my childhood and that inspired me in getting attracted to this field. We used to have the fecility of having seminar in the end of every month after compleating of each lessons. And this process helped us in true education. After every year professors from differnt parts of the country used to come for a seminer for overall groth of the students. Actually is theory teaching style is followed in the college, according to me some developments in the practical teaching can be used. Semister is held at the end of every six months and the exams are used to be moderate in nature.
