What Students Say
Likes
- Discipline. The discipline there is the mainstay behind their academic and professional success of the students.
- Academic Pressure. The healthy pressure given in academics was the major reason why I came out with flying colours.
- College life. The college culture was nice, and we, the students really enjoyed ourselves by making friendships and bonds.
Dislikes
- Authoritarianism. The institute survives on Authoritarianism, and whatever was said by the faculty was like an edict for us.
- Selective Preference(Sometimes) of students. The placement cell is headed by a person who only allows his favored students to appear for the good jobs.
- Strictness. It is very strict, and not even the basic amounts of freedom are allowed in the college, everyone has to follow a certain standard.
Course Curriculum Overview
The course is definitely relevant. And those who have studied BCA in the college and have gone on to working in IT companies find it much easier to fit in, because of the courses they had studied in college.
Internships Opportunities
The college contacts reputed IT firms in Kolkata for their students to intern in. The students spend the summer at the institute and develop a professional project on their own, which is further evaluated by feedback from the firm and the evaluation of the faculties for the project.
Placement Experience
The placements are really nice. Every year, a large amount of students are employed by Tech Mahindra, CTS, TCS, Wipro, etc. all software giants. The starting salaries are also decent. Most students get placed, but 100% placement has also been achieved by the college now.
Fees and Financial Aid
When I went to study at IEM in 2012 with B.C.A. the fees were Rs. 50,000 per semester for four semesters going up to Rs. 2,00,000 for the entire course. I am not aware that the fee structure was different for people with different backgrounds, me being from the General stream. Scholarships were available for meritorious students, and also they were need based. For details regarding this one can directly contact the administration office of IEM, situated in Sector V, Salt Lake City, West Bengal.
Campus Life
The campus life was vibrant and fulfilling. We had a canteen, and we were allowed to go out of the college campus during the recess for lunch. We had different organisations to empower the talents of the students like Drama Club, Music club, Photography club, IT club, Entrepreneurship club. The routine of the students were filled with activities like competitive presentations, lab classes and workshops by eminent personalities of the city.
Admission
I chose IEM over the others, plainly because it is the best Private Engineering College in Bengal. And the placements are really good, and almost every student gets placed. That too in reputed IT companies.
Faculty
The faculty is definitely the best in the city, when it comes to private engineering colleges. They are highly credible in their academic achievements, and are definitely a torchlight in the roads of the students. Classes are interesting and informative, and students can interact with the teachers freely. Special care is given to each student, and the teacher repeats the lesson as many times as is required for the student to completely understand the concepts. Exams are extremely difficult, and it is difficult to score in the internals. However the externals are much easier, the ones conducted by the University. I feel this is good because it raises our standards to a level beyond the University exams, and hence makes it easier for us to ace them.
Night Life
The college is directly in the middle of the IT hub in Kolkata, and there are many an opportunity for students for their recreational activities. There is a mall nearby, that has food joints and a movie theater multiplex. There are many food joints nearby that sell food at reasonable rates, and in much varieties.
