Course Curriculum Overview

4

calcutta university in itself has a back dated curriculum. but recently the syllabus has been changed to be more in sync with the current times. my college is very good in maintaining that curriculam and following it. they make sure that the syllabus is finished before the exams.

Internships Opportunities

3

halder ventures, agnirva space by ISRO, TCS, on the spot registration for jaro education FTCS smart and ignite hiring, etc. roles as such were not mentioned. as i said i wasn't paying close attention to internships.

Placement Experience

4

since i am a bsc student, i did not pay close attention to the placements offered by our college. but the students are eligible to give interviews for placements from the 5th semester. many notable companies like TCS offer placement opportunities. i plan to pursue forensics after bsc. i am giving the necessary examinations for my masters in the top universities of forensics.

Fees and Financial Aid

per semester fee for bachelors in chemistry is ?33,000, per year it rounds up to around ?69000, but now since the curriculum has changed the fees per semester might have changed. they provide scholarships based on your scores in 12th and your fees can be deducted accordingly. admission fees is ?10,000 and caution fees is ?10,000 which is refunndable. the total amount payable at the time of admission is ?53000 for my course. i cannot share the hostel fees but they dont charge lab fees seperately.

Campus Life

3

this is one of the minus points of my college. they do not have any fests as such. however, many events do take place where you can showcase your talents, but they are not widely recognised. also, for bsc students after the 1st year taking part in any events is almost impossible due to the course load. the classrooms have smartboards with internet access, and the college has registered to N LIST which has a wide range of journals to choose from for your dissertation work. sports meet take place annually in the month of feb or march and theres also various number of clubs you can participate in.

Admission

i got a confirmed in all colleges of kolkata like bethune, loreto, brabourne, etc. i didnt get into xaviers. Xaviers was my first choice but since i didnt get into it i was happy with THC or bethune. my admission for bethune came a while later, when i was already comfortable with heritage. plus the campus vibes, faculty and friends played an important role into choosing this collge. i didnt get into xaviers because i didnt have score high enough to secure the index marks. the admission process of my college is very easy, they accept 10+2 level examinations and you are eligible to fill up the form if you have secured 60%, but the admission desk is very very polite and helpful. overall the entire experience was incredibly smooth.

Faculty

5

i have the best set of faculty members. my professors are extremely approachable and they show keen interest in my studies. they always help aim for more. since my college is under the affiliation of calcutta university, it follows the curriculum of the same. if the classes are followed regularly, along with some seriousness on the student's part, they can easily clear the exams. my faculty includes the HOD, DR SABARI GHOSH, who is my organic chem professor, DR SHUBHATAM SEN AND DR MOUSHUMI BANERJEE, my inorganic and physical chem professors. all the three of them are the best set of mentors i have recieved in my life, they encourage me everyday and also make the class as engaging as possible.

Night Life

2

my college isnt open in the night but during the day the csnteen and the library are good places to hangout. theres no gym present, however there 3 cafeterias which serve moderate to good food. locality is not safe to roam around at night i think.

Other Applied Colleges

Bethune College | bachelor of Arts [MA] (English)

wasnt my primary focus

Bethune College | Bachelor of Science [B.Sc] {Hons.} (Chemistry)

my college had a better set of faculty members

Placement Experience:

People who major in my department usually opt for masters over placement not because of this college but because overall industrial or academic opportunities are better with a pg degree. Masters from this college is not recommended as i have heard so from my seniors. Some of my seniors managed to crack competitives and secure MSc seats at great places. Training and Placement cell had a good coordinator previously but now its almost non existent. Companies do come and hire Bpharm, Mpharm and MSc candidates. Packages are below average. Only Nestle pays well. But if you do well you'll eventually climb up the corportate ladder. From the time i am here i have not heard of any BSc candidate getting placed. Most go for higher studies.

Placement Experience:

The average package offered for such roles ranges between ?2–3 LPA, while the highest package offered to a BSc student is around ?4 LPA, depending on skills and specialization. Overall, around 15–20% of BSc students get placed through campus drives, and many students rely on off-campus opportunities.

Course Curriculum Overview:

The course curriculum was well thought out as per me but there were subjects that i found absolutely unnecessary. Subjects like history evs and clc were in no way related to my course. Coming to the main subjects Design, Printing, Photography and film and Media Training were absolutely necessary for my course and whilst the faculty for some of these subjects were really bad, some were good. It is also important to mention none of these subjects actually helped us prepare for the real world. Instead internships and freelance helped us more than these subjects could ever do. Exams were held bi monthly to keep track of what we learnt and every 6 months we had our semester exams. Overall if you want to be a media professional INTERNSHIPS AND JOBS WILL HELP YOU MORE THAN A COLLEGE WILL. I am biased on this opinion as my college didnt provide me with the correct guidance and support i needed to make it in the real world.

Placement Experience:

In case of computer science department, placement is provided at the Last year of M.sc course. Many companies like Wipro, b10x, Tata visited here. Highest package ever is three lakh per annum. 20-40% of the students got placement after completing M.Sc computer science. My plan after B.sc is to pursue MCA.

Course Curriculum Overview:

* It's all about practical knowledge, we are getting from this course and another aspect is if you wants to make your career in research or lecturer then you should go for it. *No changes required in teaching methods but if college will provide hostel facilities and campus requirement drive, then it will better for candidates.
