What Students Say
Likes
- The thing which I like the most is the opportunity to increase my social life in the college campus and nearby. As for me, someone who is entitled towards knowing people and making friends, this is quite helpful.
- The clubs- there are 5 different clubs aiding to each field , like cultural , technical , sports , film and even a Google development club which is quite fun and interesting
- A part of the faculty who doesn't only have knowledge, but also is good in teaching students with a fevour. Not every faculty has right teaching skills, but the ones who do are extremely talented.
Dislikes
- The infrastructure is one among them - you would find few fans and lights to be not working from the first day itself and it would need several complains to finally let the management work on it.
- A part of faculty who though has the knowledge, doesn't know how to imply it correctly into teaching . They might be really good with their qualifications but it is terrible when it comes to teaching
- The canteen , it's a place , I enter once in 6 months if very much needed. That place is too unhygienic and even the one who looks after the canteen is quite ill mannered at times
Course Curriculum Overview
For choosing information technology, I wanted something which would lead me to jobs in the corporate side and this was something which got my interest. Talking about how it prepares me, well I am still in my second year, but I must say it's quite teaches us the important programming languages, which are what we actually need to work in my particular field .Also, it does helps one if the later wish to pursue MTech as higher education. There are areas though, where improvement can be brought like the way the teachers teach . It can be more fun interactive and practical rather than just based on more theoretical specifications. About curriculum, I would rather think it might be important in the long run, whatever is taught. Well tbh the timings and frequency are fine, just I will say in case of even semesters , it might cause problem sometimes since for second year and first year , they get less time maybe 4 months in total to prepare for even semester exams.
Internships Opportunities
Tbh, I haven't yet got any internship and hence speaking without any experience on it is not well . But I might say college does push you into making projects for your cv. From the first year itself , project competitions began which make the students work themselves up in learning new skills , so as to put it in their projects.
Placement Experience
Technically from the 5th or 6th semester one becomes eligible for campus placements . There are a few companies which regularly visit for placement offers like cognizant , TCS , etc . The average packages which is usually offered is 400000 to 500000 , though it depends on student's skills and knowledge , and even grades . There might also be a highest package , which can bound to 900000 even . Talking about percentage of students getting placements , it is 50 percent or a bit more which surely gets placement . Speaking about my plans after degree, I plan to either get a job or work for my higher education like Mtech or MBA .
Fees and Financial Aid
The overall fee structure for my course (B.Tech) is Rs.470000 . This is divided in each semesters in a manner in which in 1st semester, we will need to pay almost Rs.70000 (including semester fees and tuition fees since it is the semester of enrollment) . From next semester on we need to pay amounts which increase over each sem , accounting to Rs47000, Rs49000, Rs52000 . Now this is the course fee for B.tech , as for BBA I have known it Rs300000 and something . Coming to scholarships the most important is SVICM Scholarship which is taken by almost more than 50 percent students. To qualify for the scholarship each semesters, one needs to pass every semester.
Campus Life
There are five different clubs in the college - Culrav (cultural club) , Xplorica (technical club) , Estrella (Film club) , Sportivo (Sports club) and GDSC (Google developers club). Each club is different and provide a different level of interest and fun . Each clubs organize fests throughout the year , but among them the main fests are Flames (organized by Culrav) and Phoenix (organized by Xplorica) . They bring a different level of energy on the floor with several other colleges participating and talented guests performing . These fests are usually held in the timeline between February to may . Speaking of library, the library is quiet a safe place for peaceful environment where one could study peacefully in cool air conditioner . All types of educational books are available which the students need. Well , we do get Wi-Fi in classroom (though honestly it is quite unstable at times) , and charging options , also ofcourse working computers in each labs.
Admission
There were few colleges I applied to based on my WBJEE ranks . There was St. thomas college, techno college , heritage , msit and many more . If you know the way of how WBJEE admissions work , you will know we need to give a list of college and they would choose according to our preference and rank . Now according to that , I got this college . Well, if telling why I didn't get applied in other colleges which were much better it was due to my WBJEE rank , which was not that upto mark . Talking about the admission process , its just following the process of WBJEE admissions and on admission day providig the necessary documents needed by the college which will be informed ( or maybe we need to know) . If we talking about cut offs it changes every year so we need to look after it from previous years' cut off list . Also , you need to have atleast a good percent in both ICSE and ISC for admission.
Faculty
The faculty to student ratio , if I am telling about my department (Information Technology) is quite almost 1:16. Talking about the relationship between the faculty and students , it depends on how approachable both side are .At times the teachers are quite cool and open minded while mingling with the students and it helps students to reach teachers easily , but sometimes they get partial and get biased towards some students hence leaving the others. If talking about name, there is one particular teacher i used to quite hate but later realised how good he was , and now I am hoping to get him in the next semester . He is SM sir, not at all partial and geninuely used to look after us . Well talking about the one I didn't like is a female teacher, who is way too much biased towards male students and thus I'll treats and become unnecessarily rude towards the female ones. About exams , for one year there is two semester exams (since there are two semesters ) , following the makaut system . For each semesters there are CA exams too (which are basically the internal exams) . Talking about semester exams, they are quite difficult to pass if you don't study for it atleast a bit , and at times even the checking is not done properly which leads to backlogs , though they can be cleared . Honestly, it is relevant though there are some subjects like EVs, biology which I personally don't know why is it needed
Night Life
This might be my favourite question honestly. So , I am someone who travels to college everyday , so I can't tell about the night life over there since , the maximum time I stay there is upto 6 pm . But I can tell all about the fun spots near colleges , mentioning Joy Da r dokan and Rothin da's shop. These two are very famous , and the most popular hangout spot for college students on a daily basis. They sit there for hours , even sometimes bunking classes and sip on hoy tea and other delicacies. Also if talking about small restaurants, there Tekina and LuvEat , quite good places to have good food and enjoy , also within affordable range . If we are talking about whether the locality is safe to roam at night or not , it is except maybe a few place, like A1 goli (a place which is quite dark at night and I personally might say not that Safe)
