Course Curriculum Overview
The ciriculum was designedin a way that we got to learn all the disciplines involved in biotechnolgy. This course prepared us for real world applications such as STEM, DNA Fingerprinting, PCR and other. Still there is scope of improvement to make students learn from advanced instruments rather than the basic ones.The frequency of exams were decent there were gaps of almost 4-5 months between every semester.
Fees and Financial Aid
The total fees that I have paid for this course was 3 lakhs and 24 thousand rupees in which the first year feeswas 1 lakh rupees the second year fees was 3lakh 8 thousand rupees and the final year fees was 1 lakh 12 thousand rupees. There was no registration and no admission fees taken.The toatl fees of 3 lakhs and 24 thousand rupees includes everything like the tution fees, lab fees as well as the development fees. All the batchmates had to pay the same amount of fees. There was no scolarship provided by the college.
Campus Life
Somaiya is known for their fests namely Symphony, Aura and others every other month there are fests organised by different departments. We have 3 libraries with free access by college ID card. We have projectors, blackboard and white boards as wellin our classroom. Somaiya has their own sports club for cricket,badminton, kabaddi and swimming.There are many social groups and organisations run by students such as IIEC.
Admission
I only applied to this college as this college was providing biotechnology honours degree which any other college in Mumbai was not providing. The admission process of my college is very simple you have to visit the official website of SK somaiya college the go to admissions and the simply fill aa the deatils and then wait for the confirmation mail.
Faculty
The faculty-to-student ratio was great 1:4 was the ratio and teachers were really really approachable.Jacinta ma'am was my favourite she was strict but was very accurate and smart when it comes to teaching, she made biochemistry easy for us. Sagar sir and Sharon ma'am were best faculties. There were visiting faculties for chemistry and I did not like them due to their teaching pattern.There are 2 exams in every semester internals for 25 marks and semester for 60 marks and practicals for 50 marks. The exams were easy to moderate. Every semester 5-6 students used to geat fail to clear the exams. The course cirriculum is best in Somaiya Vidyavihar University it consists all the relevant subjects and topics related to biotechnology
Night Life
The night life of the Somaiya campus is very beaitiful.We have maggi house and mess for eating which opened for hostels strudents majorly. The hostel timings are 24hrs opened.Management canteen and Amphitheatre are one of the best spots where students can hangout.
