Course Curriculum Overview

3

I took this course as I didn't really understand coding. I liked working with circuts and creating new devices and also had a passion for wanting to know the working of a lot of the electronics we use daily. But I don't think the present curriculum that I'm studying under ktu which is the 2019 is preparing us for the real technical world outside. The syllabus is behind by atleast 20 years. This makes it hard for graduates to find a job in any core electronics company. Along with that the labs are also pretty outdated with a lot of malfunctioning equipment and teachers with little to no technical knowledge which creates engineers with even less technical knowledge. There is very less hands on learning as the duration of the sem is small which leads to gaps in learning. The exams are held pretty frequently but there is not much time for preperation as the exams are held close together. Also as they hold lab exams during the study break it leads to even less time to devote to studying. This also leads students to neglect lab exams and just pass with an average grade.

Placement Experience

2

Students are eligible to sit for placement from the 6th semester onwards. But most of the placement companies that visit are tech/software companies. There are very few core companies that are visiting currently. Out of the few core companies that do visit the highest package is probably offered by Tata Elxsi with a package of 7-8 lakhs per annum. But the placement stats for Cs/ Aiml is very good with lots of placement as well as high ctc. But out those placed most are placed with package ranges from 3-4 lakhs per annum. My current plan is for higher studies after graduation. I want to specialise in the field of vlsi design. But if possible I would want to work in s core company for around 2-3 years to build up experience.

Fees and Financial Aid

As I have entered under the management quota my yearly fees for this year (2nd) is Rs 79,030. For first year it was a little over Rs 93,000. Along with that we have to pay extra fees like ktu,pta fund extra amounting to about Rs 10,300 every year. For the general quota the tuition fees is Rs 42,550 along with the extra fees it's Rs 52,890. There are many scholarships for economically backward, women and SC/ST students such as Women in engineering by IEEE. There are also some scholarships held by other entities. But there are not many scholarship for general category students.

Campus Life

4

The overall campus life is pretty enjoyable. There are many programs being held each week or every other week. Every year around April-may Cult-a-way is held at Nishagandhi Auditorium. There are many tech fest and workshops being held. There are clubs for basketball, football, cricket, Kabadi, handball and badminton for both boys and girls. They have wons prizes at university level multiple times. But there isn't much space for these sports to be played around campus so they hold practices in the same space leading to crowding. Every class is equiped with a projector and screen. But it would more desirable if a destop and speaker was made available in every class as well. Along with up keeping of the available resources and equipments.

Hostel Facilities

3

There is not any college management run hostel. Both boys and girls are forced to occupy private hostels. The hostel rent is Rs 6000 per month for a room that is shared between 4 people, food is provided as well. The quality of meals are pretty bad and there isn't much variety of taste. But it is clean and hygienic. The hostel is not very affordable in my opinion but we have to make do as there is no other option. The hostel that I'm staying at is in Kaimanam which is around 800 meters from the college

Admission

The main reason I chose this college was because this as under the Government of Kerala. It is held jointly by both government and ksrtc. This the standard of teachers will be better than other private colleges and campus life would be better as well. I have gotten confirmed admission from Amritha University and FISAT. I chose Sct because of the above given reason and also because of its location in trivandrum. I had applied to both Cet and Gect but I didn't pass the cutoff. The admission price for SCTCE is through KEAM which is held by the government of Kerala. If you have a valid rank you can apply to any college and can get selected according to the ranklist.

Faculty

3

I am a part of the electronics and communication department. The teacher student ratio is currently sufficient but it could be improved on. The faculty student relationship is good. Most of the teachers are approachable and hold interactive classes. But some teachers and are not up to the mark. They hold sub par classes and only have surface level knowledge. The classes are not interactive or sometimes they end up not coming. They're also unable to solve the queries of the students. The sessional exams are an agreeable level in line with ktu question paper. But I feel like the students are not being prepped for the ever-changing industry and instead is just spoon feeding previous year university questions rather than true subject knowledge. The 2023 Electronics department has a good pass percentage with around 85% of the students clearing the university exams.

Night Life

2

There isn't much night life in the campus as the campus curfew is 7. So students cannot hangout after that time or access libarary during exam time. This should not be acceptable. Also the curfew maybe pushed till 8 if a program or fest is being held. There isn't any management run hostel for both boys and girls. Students are forced to take up private hostels run outside for high rent. There isn't is s curfew for boys hostel but most of the girls hostel have s curfew of around 7:30 pm. Since the college is located close to trivandrum city and is accessible by bus it's easy to reach and go to places from here. Inside the college students usually hang around the mini canteen, cult steps, under the banayan tress or near the mechanical lab building.

The campus placements are decent. getting placed in a big company is more about having the technical and soft skills to pass the interviews. the placement training helps us develop soft skills but the technical skills must be developed ourselves.

Companies like Oracle, Goldman Sachs, L&T, Bajaj, Caterpillar and PSU's like BEL,HPCL and BPCL come to the college usually the coding companies offer aroung 35-40 LPA CTC and the core PSU companies offer around 17-18 LPA. Highest Package is 51 LPA and an Average Package of 12 LPA. Nearly 85% students from Circuit and CS branch get placed and around 60% in core branches who sit for placements, My plans after getting the degree is to join MBA to learn how business world works and how the money flows
