IISER Mohali Review of 2nd year Under-graduate

The course is relevent as it covers more basic and fundamental topics in core years and then more research oriented topics in major years. It is really well suited for anyone who wants to do research. The timings and Lecture hall complex is a bit old and small which can be improved. The frequency of exams is really quick which results in a continuous evaluation.

Every summer and winter is a break and an opportunity is given to pursue lab and project during that duration. Students apply for various fields and if through a program a stipend is also given. Some of the projects are working in astrophysics, Experimental, developmental biology, Neaurology. Apart from that long term reading and in lab work is also given.

The fee paid per semester has been around 7-9k for me from last 4 semesters as a SC. For generals it has been around 35k per semester. It includes hostel fee, examination fee,gym fee,lab fee, hostel seats and table fee, water and electricity fee which ranges from about 300-3000 for each. This value may change for general category. their is a late fee payment also which increases by 500 per day not paid. The institute provides with DST scholarship which is around 60,000 per year and MCM for other categories which have CGPI of above 7. It also offers other scholarships like reliance etc which are private

The campus is really open where all the festivals are given open grounds for celebrations. there are cultural evenings where students prepare different art forms and they are displayed. The overall environment is really positive with no hostel timings and a wonderful library. Campus is big and open and a lot of area to walk is providied. Regular club activities are encouraged and also effect the mental health in a good way. BSG, NSS are also encouraged here and all kind of sports are played here. They also maintain all the campus surroundings regularly.

The room has a 2 study rables, two beds, fan and 2 almirahs. For 2 years u have a roommate and then in 3rd year you get a single room. Meal is really good as there is a student run mess. The mess fee and other hostel facilities are easily available. Nurse and ambulance are also provided. The mess fee and other stuff is paid along with total fee.

I did not apply for any other instutte as i wanted to come ti IISER,mohali only given i wanted to do research in my future. I did not wanted to go into any engineering college despite cleering my JEE-Mains. This was my top priority. For IISER,Mohali i cleared iiser aptitude test and got a seat here. There are cutoffs for 7 IISER's over the country with IISER,mohali with third highest cutoff. Out of total securing about 50-70% overall is good enough to secure a seat here.

Their are a total about 200 faculty memebers from all departments and around 1500 students overall which leads to a F-S ratio of 1:7.5, hence one faculty per 8 students. The faculty is really approachable and all professors are available on mail. The physics department is really wonderful and a lot of research happens in physics department apart from biology, math chem. Overall all departments are good at the work they do. Their are overall 2 mid sems and an end sem in one semester and along with it quizes and assignments. they are based on syllabus covered and overall they are moderate to hard. The course curriculum is relevent with progress upward from bottom to top as courses proceed along with minor options once major years start.

Night life is really bright and vibrant as there are no hostel timings so one can roam around campus at any time. Mess timings are flexible with mess open till 10 pm and along with that there are canteens and of course restaurants around Mohali. Locality is safe to roam around security is good and does not involve in any issue. The roads and overall campus is huge enough to walk around.
