Course Curriculum Overview

3

Talking about curriculum it's all needed on board .It's better to choose bsc over dns because what you study in bsc helps you to get promotion till chief mates .While dns guys have to study a lot on board and have to give a lot more exams than us and much sailing time. Our curriculum is according to the old ships which were used actually now it's a lot easier to operate a ship but some things are to be know about a ships because when a ship is out of control you have to operate it manually

Placement Experience

3

Girls in every imu campus gets placement even if they are not too good in studies so girls have no issues in placements.Talkiny about boys the placement scenario earlier was very good but after Covid the placement percentage dropped drastically but from last year this year the placements are getting better .The college is getting back to the placement percentage it had before .Im a second year student and 3 boys got into chevron which is a top class merchant Navy company,5 girls are placed in BW and rest are appearing for stenna interview. In 4th sem boys can apply for synergy exam and if they qualify they will surely crack the interview as imu chennai cadets get preference in synergy .In 5th sem many companies like torm and thome took 17 cadets .Rest in next sem many more companies are yet to come .In short in IMU Chennai if you are pass on all the subjects you'll surely get placement

Fees and Financial Aid

The current fees for the course is 275000 per year for bsc btech and dns in which hostel and mess fees is included they also provide you with uniform and shoes in odd sem you pay 152500 and in even sem 122500. First sem you also have to pay 30000 extra as caution deposit. For scholarship there are scholarships available for sc st and girls for boys there are opportunities only for reserved categories. My friend who applied for sc scholarship got 4 lakh rupees scholarship in third sem and many girls get 1.5 lakhs every year if they apply for scholarship

Campus Life

2

Bsc infrastructure is okayish .To be honest too small for a regimental course for btech the campus is good .The fests held are very low budgeted and there is a lot of racism for North cadets .No campus life to be very honest, no outing before Sunday , no food ordering before Friday ,not much there for sports ,no clubs .You have to be very mentally strong to be here in IMU Chennai because it's no better than a jail

Admission

Actually I wanted to go to ts chanakya navu Mumbai campus it's better than imu chennai for bsc but that time I didn't know how to apply for counselling and I put imu chennai over ts chanakya on my preference list so I got imu chennai.I gave the exam in 2023 that time my rank was 1431 ews category so I would've easily got ts chanakya in first list but I thought chennai is the head quarters so it must be better. For being eligible for imu colleges you must have a score of 60% avg in pcm in 12th and. 70% in English in 10th and 12th .You must clear IMU-CET exam and after that apply for counseling process . After that if you are medically fit just go to the college verify your passport and other documents and there you go....!!!

Faculty

3

For bsc every sem there are 6 written and 2 practical exams .Written are for 70 marks in which we have to score atleast 35 for passing the rest 30 marks are given from our internal test marks in which 15 are passing .To be very honest the checking system for all IMU colleges is pretty bad so you can't tell that in which subject you may fail because papers are pretty easy to pass even if you just study pyqs thoroughly. Our stability teacher gave us the worse experience for stability he completed the syllabus too quickly we didn't even understood the concept.Rest all the faculty taught us good be it bridge equipment, chartwork ,meacs or celestial navigation

Night Life

2

No hangout spots in college. You have to be back in hostel before 8pm on sundays .We have a gym but the equipments are all old and many are missing ,no cafeteria ,we have a library which is open till 7 pm .Outside the campus you can go to mayajaal and pvr in front of our college for movies .In mayajaal you can have an arcade experience too. There are many good things but a little far away from our campus.Outside the campus there is a beach just connected from the back of our campus so on Sundays many college students hang out over there

Course Curriculum Overview:

I chose bsc computer science because I'm interested in IT jobs and want become a developer. The syllabus is useful for real world learning and it covers important basics. i found subjects like c programming very helpful for understanding core concepts. the curriculum is decent but it needs more practical sessions and better lab facilities. the software and systems in the lab should also be updated. we follow a semester system, and the exams test both theory and practical knowledge. overall the course is good, but more hands on training would make it even better.
