- The campus is not huge but still accommodates all the amenities a student would need in a college to have a happy college life.
- Almost all the faculty in the college are well established in the field they teach in the college and hence they are able ti clear the doubts we have instantly.
Dislikes
- On some days of the week the classes start as early as 8 in the morning which is slightly hectic.
- The library is closed on Sundays which can be irritating but still it is not a huge issue.
- Due to overcrowding in the gym, they make you pay to buy slots to enter the gym here.
Course Curriculum Overview
The curriculum of btech mechanical engineering in specific designed in such a way that it matches the standards of an IIT as it was nurtured by IIT madras during its initial stages, the curriculum is slightly inclined towards design and manufacturing as the institute specializes in that parts. The mid semester exams takes place usually for an hour and a half while the end semesters takes place for three hours , both taking place once every semester. Both the exams are usually on the harder side when it comes to difficulty and you can not expect any liniency from the faculties as well.
Internships Opportunities
Many companies who come to the institute looking for students to work for them first tend to hire them as interns and then they give the well performing students a pre placement offer, recently amazon hired a student a intern for 1.1 lakh stipend per month. Every final year student will have to do a project which pretty important to complete the course, the projects are rewarded and the best one will be honoured with awards on the student's day of graduation.
Placement Experience
If you compare the placements here with an IIT or top NIT's, you might find it a little dissapointing but the placements here are very good when you compare it with other top private colleges of our country. The average package stands around 8lpa whereas the highest package went upto 35lpa last year. The students are eligible to apply for placements from the 6th semester and top companis like nvidia and microsoft do pay visits here.My personal plan is to pusue masters in germany after completing my Btech here. You can find further details about the placements in the official site of the institution.
Fees and Financial Aid
Yearly fee for the course including hostel and mess is around 2.5 lakh rupees for general, OBC and general EWS candidates. The fee for SC,ST and PWD candidates does not include any tution fee as it is 0 for them, they annual fee is around 80k for two semesters or 1 year. The institute will help you to apply for NSP or other government funded scholarships by sending a lot of mails regarding how to apply for them. There is no management quota and hence there is no special fee structure for those candidates. Admission to IIITDM is only provided through merit basis just like all the other IIIT's in the country.
Campus Life
Two cutural fests and 1 technical fest takes place insinde the campus every year, Meraki is an intra college cultural fest in which the cultural clubs inside the campus takes part in organizing programs whereas Samgatha is the other cultural fest in which other colleges also takes part in showcasing their talents. The technical fest is called Varshisht in which various technical competions are held including robo wars and hackathons. The grounds and sports complex are almost always full, people here are very talented and hence they will be preparing for touraments all the time of the year. Including various tournaments held within the campus and outside. There are several cultural and technical clubs in the institute which are run by the students here. Students will have to go through some tests before being able to join any of those clubs.
Hostel Facilities
Every room has an occupancy of 2 unless you are a final year student who gets a single occupancy room. Every student gets a bed, table, chair, and a cupbord with a door. Student has to buy a mattress for himself. Every room has a fan and a balcony for the student to dry clothes and enjoy the view. The hostels here are massive as the buildings have 14 floors each and 3 such building are present. During power outages the lift will stop working and hence the students from higher floors will have to take the stairs which is a serious issue here. The mess here offers good food to be honest , the manu varies weekly. The food here includes paneer biriyani, chicken tikka and a lot more. Special dinner will be provided once in a fortnite and it is pretty good.
Admission
I applied and got selected in RGIPT amethi for Btech in computer science and design, but i felt like IIITDM mechanical would be a better choice because I felt like the institutes speciality in the field of design and manufacturing would help me buid a career around my passion of cars and machanics in general. The clubs in IIITDM was also a reason why i chose it over RGIPT. To get into IIITDM, a student will have to clear JEE mains with a good rank and will have appl through counselling like JOSAA and CSAB for indian students while NRI's will have to apply through a special counselling called DASAA.
Faculty
Almost all the faculty in the campus have a phd in their own field of expertise making them a really good source of knoledge for the students, moreover the faculty here are really friendly and approachable. Dr Kalpana S who taught me electric circuits is my personal favorite faculty as she teaches really well. Dr Tapas sill who taught me engineering electromagnetics will be least favorite faculty as he is not really good in delivering the knowledge that he has in his field. The two major exams we have every semester are mid semester and end semester which takes place once every semester, apart from these exams we have quizzes whose frequency depends upon the faculty. The exams are usually on the difficult side but getting an average score is not that difficult.
Night Life
Students are supposed to be inside the college before 10 in the night. Girls hostel have a night in time of 12 pm whereas there is no intime for boys hostels. The new library closes at 10pm during weekdays and 6pm on saturdays, while its closed on sundays. The old library will be open till 12pm tho(all days). There is a night canteen in the campus which runs from 7pm to 2 am. The college gym is open by 5am in the morning and active till 10pm in the night.
Other Applied Colleges
