Indian Institute of Information Technology, Design and Manufacturing Kancheepuram, also known as IIITDM Kancheepuram, was established in 2007 and is located near Melakottaiyur Village, off Vandalur-Kelambakkam Road, Nellikuppam Road, Chennai, Tamil Nadu. IIITDM Kancheepuram is a public technical and research institution with a permanent campus that covers 51.75 acres of land granted by the Tamil Nadu government. According to the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) 2024, its B.Tech program ranks between 101 and 150 out of 300 engineering colleges in India.

The gym is arguably the best in our campus. It contains almost every machine for individual muscle groups. Recently they have installed AC in our gym. And the sem-wise fees is only 250/-. ~ Ankush Sinha, B.Tech

I liked how students are involved in technical activities.
I liked how the faculties are very interactive which we don't find common in other institutes.
I liked how the labs are very well maintained and students are given proper access to all the instruments and lab assistants are very keen to help

Dislikes

There are not much things to dislike about the college but the communication gap between north indian students and south indian students
Mess menu is not properly designed but it is improving day by day
There is a strict attendance criteria of 85%

One special thing about this institute is that it offers a special course called Product Design which is not offered at any other institutes in India except IIITDM Jabalpur and IIITDM Kurnool. This course is very helping in understanding how a product is made from scratch. Also the entire curriculum is designed as per the industry needs to offer maximum placements.

Total course fees and provided scholarship

For the current semester, the tuition fee for the 2023 batch is 73000/semester. Every semester the fee hikes by around 10%. Including the mess, hostel and tuition fee and considering the hikes the entire course might cost around 9,50,000 for 4 years. Also there are a lot of scholarships provided by central and state governments.

College fest and various activities

The campus life in this college is quite chill. Students enjoy sufficient freedom. Also we have several fests and events which keep students engaged in extra curricular activities also. The tech fest is called Vashishth which is generally organized in the month of january which receives participants from all over Tamil Nadu. Our cultural fest is called Samgatha and it is organised with pomp and show. It receives an average footfall of 3k-4k people from all over Tamil Nadu. Also there are various other events such as Meraki, E-Summit.

Hostel facilities provided by the college

We have an on campus hostel. There are three hostels namely Ashwatha and Ashoka are for boys and Jasmine for girls. Every room in the hostel is a double sharing room and two cots, two chairs, two tables and two cupboards are provided in each room. The mess is called Akshaya and it is combined mess for all the students. Separate floors are divided for different years students. The food is quite healthy but the menu needs more improvement

Student views on the faculty

The faculty to students ratio is quite high which facilitates proper attention to all the students. Also the faculties are very educated and most of them are from premiere institutes of this country such as IITs, NITS and some of them are from foreign universities. Teachers are very interactive and very keen to take students' doubts.

Admission process and eligibility criteria

To be eligible for this course, one has to write the JEE Mains exam and has to get a rank below 30,000 for a general canditate. For reserved categories, it might get upto 35,000. Also one more important eligibilty criteria is you have to get a minimum of 75% in boards in exam

I had applied for NIT Jamshedpur in Biotechnology.I chose this college over that because I got mechanical engineering here which is a core and my interesting field than Biotechnology.Also the nirf ranking of this cllg was within 120 at my time.Also this college is near to my state. Admission procedure is through JEE MAINS rank To get Mechanical engineering you need JEE percentile of 94 if you are from general category. After getting selected,u need to submit the necessary documents which will be out in the college website.They will ask us to come on specific dates so that it will be easy for us and them to go with the admission procedure

Intime for both girls and boys are at 12am for fests with permisdion till 2am

Dislikes

Fest here are very bad as the professors doesnt support properly and doesnt give money
At times boys and girls are not treated in the same way

Admission:

I applied to NIT CALICUT NIT SURATKAL, NIT TRICHY. For my trial round i got nit suratkal for EEE. But i shifted it to down and kept iiitdmk up..I chose this as it was the only college with Smart Manufacturing. Course and i was intrested in the way the curriculum was set including Cs,ece,eee Nd mechanical.As my jee score was not great to enter cse courses in nit calicut i got rejected there. Admission procedures were pretty easy.Jee scores are important .only jee mains Cutoff vsluse increase and decrease every year.For cse course it is around 97 to 97 percentile

I applied for NIT TRICHY But i am getting civil engineering there so i opted out i was also getting Mechanical engineering in NIT Calicut but as it is too far away from home town i opted out. I decided not to go to northern states due to some personal probelms (Health). I got rejection from NIT Trichy Mechanical as my Percentile is not good as much to gain that college. Aligibility is that the student must pass th Jee mainss examination with a certain percentile depending on the reservation Exams in the college are relatively graded and not on absolute grading

This is one of the government funded colleges in India and one of the best college in Tamil Nadu , according to my jee rank , the best college I can go is this college only (IIITDM) , may be the average placements are poor but the support for getting development is very high you can do mtech in iit Madras by using one of the MOU of our college

IIITDM Chennai, a brief review (post-covid improvements).

Admission:

Well, I got this college through CSAB. In JoSAA, I was disqualified for being late for fee payment in the first round itself. Then in CSAB, I did apply for other colleges, IIITs, NITs, GFTIs, etc. In the first round, I got NIT Srinagar in IT. But I waited for the next round and then I got IIITDM Chennai. In my early years, I used to cuss this college a lot. With the conditions at the post-covid time, no freshers, hardly any fests and discrimination, I used to hate my life. Then I talked to some of my friends in other colleges and then I realised that this college, although with a smaller campus of only 55 acres, is still trying its level best. A lot of reforms are seen in the past 2 years. Having 2 different caterers in the mess, freshers night, increasing budget of clubs and fests, it's like I have seen the college raise its standards. As for admission process, there is like a week or 10 days period for all the document verification work. After this, the students are alloted their time tables and they can daily go to classes. It's straight forward actually.

The junior senior interaction is amazing in this college as most of the seniors are almost always ready to help you out with anything.

Dislikes

Due to overcrowding in the gym, they make you pay to buy slots to enter the gym here.

Admission:

I applied and got selected in RGIPT amethi for Btech in computer science and design, but i felt like IIITDM mechanical would be a better choice because I felt like the institutes speciality in the field of design and manufacturing would help me buid a career around my passion of cars and machanics in general. The clubs in IIITDM was also a reason why i chose it over RGIPT. To get into IIITDM, a student will have to clear JEE mains with a good rank and will have appl through counselling like JOSAA and CSAB for indian students while NRI's will have to apply through a special counselling called DASAA.

I applied for CEG GUINDY through TNEA and got EEE course which only needs board exam cut off. But through JEE , I got IIITDM ECE DD course and I am satisfied with the choice I made. Btech fee structure at IIITDM Kancheepuram

The fee per year is INR 1.42 Lakhs for the Btech course at IITDM Kancheepuram including tuition fee, registration fee, exam fee, and other charges. The hostel and mess charges are INR 30700 per semester for girls and boys both. The SC/ST students are exempted from tuition fees and hostel charges are also exempted if the family income is less than 200,000. The minimum academic qualification for admission is a pass in 10+2 with PCM subjects’ combination or its equivalent. Admission will be based on performance in JEE Main and HSC examinations as per Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) guidelines through counseling conducted by the JoSAA/ CSAB for the respective year.

Speaking of General category, if you have qualified JEE Mains with 93%ile or more, then you can surely get admission to IIITDM Chennai followed by Josaa counselling. And, in case you belong to any reserved category or Gender-female category or PWD category, then you can get admission with lower percentile also.
