Likes
- Friendly and helpful teachers, the aid teachers provide for students and look after their personal academic performance and provide aid for improvement.
- The Library provides a very large number of books and they even provide daily e-newspaper subscription for students trying for different entrance examinations.
- The lab has a wide variety of instruments and devices that help students understand complicated topics better. The lab and the teachers will even help you if you are performing your own research and they help it get published.
Dislikes
- The canteen space is not as large as it should be for, considering the large number of students.
- College timing can vary depending on you course but it is not friendly for outstation students.
- After the NEP the 75% attendance has been mandatory.
Course Curriculum Overview
The reason i decided to be a part of the Physics department was because of the lab and professors. The lab has a wide variety of instruments and the professors are very friendly and helpful. Learning from the ex student and alumini's. I decided to choose the BSc with physics major.
Fees and Financial Aid
I belong to the non NEP batch and the yearly fees was 8036/- for the first and second year and then after the new education policy it was increased to 10086/- this includes all the access to Library and lab fees included. No additional payment. The Library includes free daily e-newspaper for students who are appearing for entrance exams and a lot of books to choose for. The college provides a lot of events that give scholarship and intership opportunities and the teachers provide aid for us to avail that opportunities.
Campus Life
The campus life is very great. The college conducts many events throughout the year. Every department conducts it's event. The Social Dramatic Union is the group that manages the events and they conduct some amazing events every year. The annual festival of Jai Hind College is SHOOUT and it is a 2 to 3 day event that is conducted by SDU. They even conduct annual sports event every year that includes all sports and competition across all the students from different courses and departments.
Admission
I had applied for Mithibai, bhavans, Xavier and KC college and i got accepted in all the colleges but i choose Jai Hind College over other because of suggestions from my senior friends and ex students and even my father who was an ex student himself.
Faculty
The faculty of a department has their personalized group of teachers and staff who have major strengths of a particular subject. I belong to physics department and it personally has a a group of 20 to 25 teacher which belong to junior and senior section. The professors are very knowledgeable and experienced and have personal best field such as nanoparticles, quantum mechanics, astronomy and other major branches of physcis. The exams are conducted very often and that's makes the subject and topics even more comprehensible. The exams include practical, theory, projects, assignments, presentation and even class participation and even participation has marks and credit points which provides for necessary skill development.
Night Life
The college gymkahana has all sports coverd from chess to swimming and powerlifting. College provide skilled coaches for every sports and takes them to participate in inter college competitions and all other events. The campus is very good there are two buildings one old and new. The foyer of the new building and canteen is the usual hanging out spot for everyone. Library has wide variety of books to choose from. The college being close to station and near marine drive it has busy pedestrian throughout the fay even at night and is a safe place for students to walk at night.
