Course Curriculum Overview
As a first-year student, I am not in a position to comment on the overall relevance of the curriculum. However, based on my experience so far, the subjects we are learning—such as mathematics, physics, and coding—don’t seem directly related to our core branches. While I don’t believe they will be particularly useful in the future, I can't say for certain that they won’t have some relevance, especially in certain aspects of civil engineering.
Internships Opportunities
Many prominent companies comes for intership in our college in third year of students they offer internship according to skills and also gives many task and project to the students hired and give rewards accordingly
Placement Experience
Since being a prominent IIT and a prominent college of India it has a high package in every branch and after the course is completed students is opened to various sections and interest and fields in which he / she can continue like job / PhD/ mtech from the same college
Fees and Financial Aid
The fees is to be given in two halfs for both the semester in one year first is given at the start of first sem and the second is given by start of second sem . Yes there are scholarship for the OBC/SC/ST classes and also for girls quota and physically disabled people and also you can apply for fee waiver
Campus Life
Various clubs are there which includes almost all the interest of a man like sports, photography, cinema , art, dance , singing, astronomy, finance , stand up and many more, infrastructure of the college is highly calculated and very advanced and it keeps improving with time
Admission
During the josaa counceling I was offered electrical , Cs and other branches at other institutes like Patna dhanbad Jammu kharagpur and kanpur however knowing my primary interest lies in civil engineering I chose to prioritise roorkee over the others roorkee is one of the most renowned institutes for civil engineering in India being the oldest in Asia and second oldest in the world it was also the first college in India to offer civil engineering program therefore my college is highly regarded for the branch I am pursuing
Faculty
The faculty-to-student ratio varies by department, but the positive aspect is that every student can easily reach their professors. Each faculty member provides their personal email, allowing students to ask questions about class material. However, some professors have strict grading policies and will award marks only when they are satisfied with the work. Notably, I found Professors Natrajan and Dibakar Roy Chaudhary to be particularly strict in their approach. Regarding the exam structure, students are required to take two main exams per year: a mid-term and an end-term exam, which occur in each semester. In total, this means there are two mid-term exams, two end-term exams, as well as quizzes and practicals. These assessments collectively determine the final grades.
Night Life
In the first month of first year there is a curfew which means students can not go out after a specific time but after the curfew is over there is no boundaries on time of arrival in hostel even you may maynot come to hostel you can hangout with friends all night which we call as nightout there are also gyms library's ( being the biggest in all iits ) and SAC( student activity centre) and MAC ( multi activity centre) are the most famous places of college there are two canteen in all the hostel which have two different time slots of opening which ensures that 24×7 canteen is available to students
