Remarks
The college faculty is truly exceptional but the placement cell is the only disappointment of the college. The college management is extremely helpful and friendly with the students.
Course Curriculum Overview
The course curriculum is not like DU as the college is affiliated to Panjab University which follows the RUSA Board. According to which the students have to study 3 different elective subjects and choose the interesting subject they want to major in out of the three in the third semester. So the curriculum is equally divided in all the subjects, unlike DU where you only learn your major and an extra subject but in PU we learn 3 Elective plus two additional compulsory subjects,i.e., General English and History & Culture of Punjab. Although the course structure looks lengthy but is very helpful. It helps a student to focus on different career paths other than the one they think is right for them. the exam structure is semester wise. After every six months, we had to appear for exams. The role of my college in making me better professional is that it helped me get out of my shell and made me confident. The events, workshops, and seminars all in all helped bring out a side in me that I never thought I'll be able to get.
Placement Experience
The placement prospect of the college is a little weak, not many companies come in for campus placements and the one that does, are not the interesting job or internship offers. But the college is working on increasing its placement cell. And normally not many students opt for jobs after their Bachelors.
College Events
Youth Festival- It's a cultural program that happens all across Punjab in all the colleges of Panjab University. Meraki- It is a cultural fest that is celebrated every year in the month of February or March. Diwali Fest- Celebrated a week before Diwali. Economic Fest-For the economic enthusiast students.
Fee Structure And Facilities
First Year Fees (Including both the semesters) - 18,000 p.a. including practical subject fees. The average student fees for three years for BA students is Rs.42,640 but with the addition of a practical subject, the fees increase to 17000-18000 per semester.
Fees and Financial Aid
No, I did not opt for any scholarship or education loan. I did not opt for any scholarship or loan because the fee structure is affordable.
Campus Life
Campus Life is full of colors. You'll find a student from every culture in the college. To keep the students interested and to get rid of the robotic routine of every day the college hosts many fun events, workshops, competitions and festivals accordingly. The food available in the campus is partially healthy as no refined flour products are allowed on campus. The college is an all-girls college so there is no gender discrimination and the girls are quite helpful and supportive as well for each other.
Alumni/Alumna
The Alumni network of the college is top class, they often visit the college and give career advice to students. The senior students are extremely helpful.
Admission
There is no requirement for an entrance exam. Admissions are on the basis of your marks scored in 12th standard. The students have to fill the form with all their details and select any 3 Elective subjects for which they are eligible according to their marks scored in 12th standard. I filled my form accordingly to learn English Literature and the cut off for Elective English at the time of my admission was 75% in English in 12th, I had a score of 82. So, I got to choose my subjects. The admission process usually starts from early July in between 7th-15th of July, after that the late admissions start from late July till early August.
Faculty
Within Chandigarh, after the University faculty, MCM's faculty for BA is the best. Especially the faculty of English and Psychology are brilliant. And the college is best known for its course in English Literature and Psychology. The teachers are thorough with their knowledge and very enthusiastic about forwarding it to the students. The English teachers especially have a habit of making the students get lost in the world of literature with the way they teach. The faculty is well-read, helpful and supportive.
