Course Curriculum Overview

3.5

I study Political Science and History as majors and Economics as a minor subject. I chose this subject combination because I want to clear the Civil Services. Political Science gives you the power to analyse this society and know the true aspects of the world. Political science is a very practical subject to study. The course could be a little less hectic and it would be so much better.

Internships Opportunities

5

There are two types of internships offered by our college. One is based on research-based work. Which is kind of a desk based job that includes a lot of paperwork. Another type of internship is based on organizational and managerial work. It includes organising events and meetings and executing directions perfectly.

Placement Experience

5

Placements are given in our college for a lot of departments. A senior of ours got placed into Reuters with a very high placement. In the last year, that is the 4th year, you get eligible for campus placement. After I get my degree in History, I will pursue my master's in history from Christ University only or from a foreign college belonging to the Ivy league. After that, I will pursue my PhD in history and also give the Civil Services Examination.

Fees and Financial Aid

I paid tuition fees of Rs 100000 yearly which is purely for the education. During filling out the form, the registration happens for Rs 1200. After admissions, we also have to pay Rs 5000 but this gets refunded after the admissions. There is no different fees for different categories but the NRIs have to pay double the amount for the same course. A friend from UAE paid Rs 200000 for the same course as mine. There are no scholarships or aids given to the students.

Campus Life

5

The infrastructure is very beautiful at Christ University. There are numerous cafes at Christ. It includes Mingoes (now Birds Park), an Indian coffee house, numerous department cafes, and vending machines at the entrances of all 5 blocks. There is a bird's park on the campus which is home to hundreds of beautiful birds of various colors and types. The campus remains clean every time and a lot of caretakers take care of this campus and keep it clean all the time. There are numerous clubs on the campus. Every department has its club. For example, My departmental club is called Vrittanta. I am also part of Nuts&Bolts Productions which is the cultural wing. I am in the theatre wing. There are two libraries in the campus, each of 4 floors.

Hostel Facilities

5

I live on the campus hostel and the yearly fee is 60000 rupees for a triple sharing room. The food costs Rs 4800 per month and it is optional to take. The meal provided is really good and healthy. In breakfast, we get dosa, idli, poha, appam, utappam, aloo poori and much more. For lunch, we get a vegetable, dal rice and roti, and buttermilk. For dinner, there is an option of veg and nonveg food and we get panneer chicken fish noodles rice fried dishes and raita. In the morning we also get tea and coffee alternatively. In the room, we have an individual bed, study table, lamp, cupboard etc. We get wifi for both laptop and mobile phone. We need to register for hostel very early. For june session, we need to book it in April. It is quite affordable.

Admission

I applied to Christ University, Delhi University, and Indraprastha University. Fortunately, I got into all three colleges. I chose Christ University because of many reasons. First, Christ is very strict about attendance. That is why, the teachers are also very sincere in attending and taking classes. Christ is known for its well structured and contemporary curriculum that provides theoretical and practical knowledge. Christ offers an overall holistic education such as various clubs, sports, inter college and intra college competitions. I am a part of the Nuts&Bolts Production in theatre wing. The campus is well maintained with modern infrastructure, lush green spaces, big libraries and recreational facilities. University offers global exposure with multiple internship oppurtunities. Christ provides a more organized and well rounded experience, which appealed to me. I didnt face rejection from any of the colleges that I applied to. The admission process is quite ardous and it is quite tough to get into Christ. First, we have to apply to the college and pay Rs 1200 for the application form. According to your location, you can choose where you want to give your interview. For certain courses, written exam is also a part of the admission process. If you clear that, you reach the interview level. In the interview, Two teachers interview you about how much do you know about the course that you are opting. Then, they give you a topic at the end and then you have to speak on it for 2 minutes impromptu without any prior preparation. My topic was 'Social Media'.

Faculty

4

The faculty to student ratio is approximately 1 teacher per 60 students. The faculty is very friendly and inviting. We can meet them in their cabin even after classes if we have any doubts or concerns. I like my political science professor Dr Stefy V Joseph. She has clarity of every topic she teaches and is very knowledgeable. I don't like my economics professor as he doesn't know how to explain things clearly to the students. The entire year is divided into two semesters and each semester has two exams-end sems and mid sems and two minor tests for 20 marks which could be a written assignment or a presentation. The exams are not tough if you study for them and you understand the pattern.

Interview Experience

5

The entrance test is based on the course that you have opted for. We had a personal interview and the questions were based on the course that I had opted. I was asked about the use of social media and the impact of climate change. To prepare for the admission rounds, I saw a lot of youtube videos of alumni and current students of christ.

Night Life

5

Inside the campus, the Bird's Park cafe is the most famous hangout spot. This is because the food is too good here. Also, the seating arrangement in the cafe looks like that of a 5-star hotel. Outside the campus, there is a road which is called SG Palya Road. It has tons of cafes, gyms and accommodation places. My favorite cafes are Pistachios, Coffbae for awesome coffee and Juice and Ice for awesome cold coffee. Both the boys and girls hostel shuts down at 9:15 pm. The gates of the main campus close down at 10 pm.

Other Applied Colleges

Delhi University - [DU] | Bachelor of Arts [BA] {Hons.} (History)

The study culture in DU is not very serious, after talking to my seniors, I realised that Christ is best for me…In DU, there are mass bunks and protests every day and teachers are not very derious regarding education.

Course Curriculum Overview:

I choose this course because of the dual degree that it has to offer, christ is one of the very few institutions that offer dual degree and allow you to explore both the subjects or gain combined knowledge of both the subjects. The curriculum is very up to date with subjects that relate to real world problems. What i like the most about my curriculum is the Learner centric approach where they divide the class into halves so that the teacher student ratio can be maintained in order to achieve full efficiency. One area of improvement can be inculcating more soft skills traininng into it.

Placements are good. Students arw given chances to take exams and get job opportunities from there. Field trips and internships, orientations, talk shows are organized to prepare students further before stepping out for jobs. They can either take the placements they get or opt for higher studies, which is what i am doing as a degree in psychology alone does not grant a wide scope in the jobs spectrum.

Placement Experience:

Students become eligible for campus placements towards the final semester of their course. Currently, I have only been using the help of my faculty for internship opportunities, since I am not looking for placements. But they have connections with big names in the communication sector, and they often have personalities coming in to give talks and interact with the students. A great number of students opt for placements and approximately 90% of them do end up getting posted at really good companies. Others choose to continue with higher education. My plan after receiving my degree would be to take up a diploma in literature in the UK, while simultaneously finding myself a position at a good publishing house there.

Placement Experience:

From my seniors, I hear that 20/30 % of students from our college get placed. But now being in my final sem I know the reality. For covid and lockdown, the placement sector has been badly hit. Only a handful of companies came this year (5/6 companies). 4/5 people from our batch are placed but no placement for the big chunk of people. From 5th sem students become eligible for placements but in 5th sem, no company came to our college for placement this year. Only in the 6th sem, the placement cell started. Companies that visited till now ( some of them came to take interns and didn't offer full-time jobs) 1) Clevertize, 2) Social Panga, 3) Robert Bosch GmbH, 4) Saatchi & Saatchi, 5) Publicis, 6)PR Pundit, 7) McKinsey, 8) Edsol Edtech, 9) Momo Media, 10) MSL, 11) Genesis BC, Offers: 1.5-3 LPA (average). I plan to send CVs personally to companies through LINKEDIN and other job search platforms because the college hasn't provided us with good placement offers as claimed.
