Course Curriculum Overview

4

The integrated structure of the course influenced me to choose this course. The integration of psychology and English made it extremely intriguing to explore this program. The curriculum including theory as well as adequate practical sessions and yearly mandatory internships provided appropriate opportunities to learn and prepare ourselves for real world applications and higher studies. Subjects like trauma narratives provide insight into the world of psychology through the lens of literature. Further incorporating a research work paper in my third and current year of college has opened door for future research publications and other academic endeavours. The frequency of exams and the timing are structured pretty well and the difficulty level is standard for the level of current education.

Internships Opportunities

4

The students are expected to look for the internships on their own. A couple of suggestions might be offered by the college but majorly students need to find and work for themeselves. Hence, it can be seen as both a drawback or an advantage depending upon what we prefer to work for.

Placement Experience

4

From 5th semester that is 3rd year student become eligible for campus placements. Many popular companies such as Delloite, Accenture, Apple, Google, Zomato and so on have visited with placement offers. The number of offers made woulf be around 50-100 and still counting. The highest pack offered so far is 14 LPA and on an average 4-6 LPA. The usual profiles offered include HR roles, analyst roles, accounting, sales and so on. An average GPA of 3.0/4 is ideal to get placed. My persolans after getting the degree is to pursue further education and do a masters degree

Fees and Financial Aid

The year wise fee for my course BA psychology and English dual major, starts at 100000 which includes everything ranging from tution fee to every other aspect of the requirements of course completion. The fee reduced each year by a margin of 5% decrease in the fee the following year and such depending on the course structure.

Campus Life

4

The annual fests include Darpan which is a week long inter campus fest including dancing, singing, writing, plays and many other such competitions. The winners are rewarded with cash prizes as well. They are typically held in july- august. The library also called as knowledge centre mainly consists of academic books and journals for studying for exams or working on research papers. The classrooms are well equipped and maintained with a provision of screen and projectors installed for presentations or movie screenings and so on. Our campus has an increased football turf with many inter college as well as inter department football matches being held very often. Similarly we have basketball court and a badminton court too. Extracurricular activities are encouraged through the University Choir as well Dance group Natyaarpana. Other than this, depertment clubs and fests are provide a great opportunity for co curricular activities. A very prominent student run social group is the Student Welfare Office (SWO) that has various departments such as audi committee, logistics, creative department and so on. This student body manages and takes care of all the events held in the university. Further we have a Student Council which takes care of student's needs and complaints. We also have a Centre for social action (CSA) that works with NGOs and other organisations to volunteer in social work.

Admission

The other colleges I had applied to include Jain University, Bangalore and Cotton University, Assam. I have received confirmations for admissions from both these colleges. But my reason for choosing Christ University over the other two colleges is because of the reputation Christ holds in terms of their administration as well as quality of education. Further, the placement opportunities in Christ are extremely good. The overall university culture of Christ builds one as a competent employee for the future and also a disciplined and organised individual. The college also provides multiple opportunities for co curricular activities for personal advancement and self actualisation. I did not face a rejection from other colleges I had applied for because I had good enough percentage from my 12th boards as well as I was able to clear the entrance tests. The admission process of Christ University is solely based on the university entrance test held by the university. One has to clear all the level of test which includes a written test followed by interview round. The specifications depend on the program applied for. A minimum requirement of passing percentage from 10th and 12th standard for being eligible to sit for the entrance tests.

Faculty

2

The faculty-to-student ratio is decent. We have around 5 students per faculty ratio. The faculty to student relationship is decent both good and average depending on the faculty and their approach towars students. Some of the faculties are extremely sweet and approachable, understanding and helpful while some others are quite inconsiderate and unnecessarily strict. In my dual major degree, it has been collectively observed by our class that the faculties from thw English department are wonderful both in teaching as well as in terms of behaviour with students. On the other hand, only a couple of faculties from Psychology department are good in teaching or are able to become approachable for the students. The psychology faculties are pretty inconsiderate and not very helpful. My favourite faculties would be Ruchria Dutta and Arun DM both from the department of English of Christ University Yeshwanthpur Campus, Bangalore. They are incredible at theie task of teaching and are very knowledgeable and passionate about their work. They are wonderful humans too and treat the students very kindly and professionally. The exams are divided into four parts which are called as Continous Internal Assessments (CIA) CIA 1 is an assignment either group or individual assigned by the respective faculties according to the status of the portions completed by the time. CIA 2 is the mid semester exam which is the regular written exam. CIA 3 is again another group or individual assignment CIA 4 is the end semester exam The difficulty of the exam is average. The performance solely depends on the students level of preparation. Failures are very less. Majority of the class passes the exams. The course curriculum is perfect relevant with respect to the objectives of the program.

Night Life

2

My campus is a new one hence there are limited options for hanging out. The most common spot would be Romo kitchen which is a restaurant near college where everyone chooses to eat from. There are new cafes and restaurants building each year making more options available for the students. The availability of gyms and other facilities are well and good. The hostel in timing is 8pm and campus in timing is 9 pm. There are many parks nearby to walk and hangout in but the area outside campus is not ideal to roam around at night. It is better to roam till evening at the maximum.

Course Curriculum Overview:

I choose this course because of the dual degree that it has to offer, christ is one of the very few institutions that offer dual degree and allow you to explore both the subjects or gain combined knowledge of both the subjects. The curriculum is very up to date with subjects that relate to real world problems. What i like the most about my curriculum is the Learner centric approach where they divide the class into halves so that the teacher student ratio can be maintained in order to achieve full efficiency. One area of improvement can be inculcating more soft skills traininng into it.

Placements are good. Students arw given chances to take exams and get job opportunities from there. Field trips and internships, orientations, talk shows are organized to prepare students further before stepping out for jobs. They can either take the placements they get or opt for higher studies, which is what i am doing as a degree in psychology alone does not grant a wide scope in the jobs spectrum.

Placement Experience:

Students become eligible for campus placements towards the final semester of their course. Currently, I have only been using the help of my faculty for internship opportunities, since I am not looking for placements. But they have connections with big names in the communication sector, and they often have personalities coming in to give talks and interact with the students. A great number of students opt for placements and approximately 90% of them do end up getting posted at really good companies. Others choose to continue with higher education. My plan after receiving my degree would be to take up a diploma in literature in the UK, while simultaneously finding myself a position at a good publishing house there.

Placement Experience:

From my seniors, I hear that 20/30 % of students from our college get placed. But now being in my final sem I know the reality. For covid and lockdown, the placement sector has been badly hit. Only a handful of companies came this year (5/6 companies). 4/5 people from our batch are placed but no placement for the big chunk of people. From 5th sem students become eligible for placements but in 5th sem, no company came to our college for placement this year. Only in the 6th sem, the placement cell started. Companies that visited till now ( some of them came to take interns and didn't offer full-time jobs) 1) Clevertize, 2) Social Panga, 3) Robert Bosch GmbH, 4) Saatchi & Saatchi, 5) Publicis, 6)PR Pundit, 7) McKinsey, 8) Edsol Edtech, 9) Momo Media, 10) MSL, 11) Genesis BC, Offers: 1.5-3 LPA (average). I plan to send CVs personally to companies through LINKEDIN and other job search platforms because the college hasn't provided us with good placement offers as claimed.
