Course Curriculum Overview

3.5

The course curriculum and exam structure are theory and practical based. They encourage the use of research and scientific methodology in the conduction of practicals. It is not purely a theoretical course, where all the marks rely on the semester examinations. Most, if not all courses consist of one or more application-based practicals. These include fieldwork, research writing, and scientific conduction of psychological tests and techniques. The total marks are judged out of the basis of a score of 150. These include internal examinations, practical exams, vivas, assignments and semester exams. The course has given me a holistic understanding of psychology. Not only has it trained me in understanding psychological theories, but it has also prepared me with skills in psychological tests and real-life applications of psychological principals.

Placement Experience

2

For most art subjects, there is no structured placement or internship cell system. There are certain placement structures in place for commerce courses. Most internships have to be availed independently since the college itself does not provide any. Since it is a very sought after course, there are many internships that are available to students outside of college.

College Events

2

There's an annual college fest as well as department fests that occur through the second half of the collegiate year. The fests usually occur around the time period starting from January to March. Departments organize their fests independently from the college administration. It usually lasts for a day or two and has many events such as entertainment activities, concerts, stalls, etc.

Fee Structure And Facilities

The annual tuition fee for B.A. (H) Applied Psychology from the 2019 batch and onward is 9885 rupees per year. Aside from the tuition fees, there are also additional semester examination fees, which are dependent on the amount of theoretical and practical examinations you're giving in each semester. Other fees may include the statutory canteen expenses, hostel fees and ticket prices for certain fests/events.

Fees and Financial Aid

I did not attempt to opt for any scholarship or education loan during the duration of my course in college.

Campus Life

3.5

It is primarily a girls college so all of the students are female. It has tantamount diversity since there are students that come from a wide variety of different cultures and backgrounds. They have some extracurricular programs available such as the dance society, NSS, the artistic society, NCC and a couple of more societies.

Alumni/Alumna

The seniors and student community in the college are very helpful. You can always find seniors or other students who are willing to aid you in whatever query or dilemma you have. If you are not able to locate a student that is able to help you, you can easily contact a faculty member or an administration member for further help.

Admission

At the time of my admission, I entered into SPM on a merit basis. DU released the first list of all the cut-offs of colleges that included psychology courses, and I was aware that SPM possessed a really sought after program in 'Applied Psychology'. On the day that the admissions started, I brought all the paperwork that was required for admission. After going through a couple of lines and submitting the appropriate paperwork, qualifying the cut off list, and getting all my details clarified and approved, I got admitted into the B.A (H) Applied Psychology program.

Faculty

3

The faculty of the college is very qualified. Most permanent and ad-hoc lecturers hold various prestigious degrees in a variety of fields. They're easily accessible and can be contacted for assistance. The lectures are substantial and the faculty is able to provide you with additional information and aid according to your discretion.

Course Curriculum Overview:

British classics, Indian writing, postcolonial literature builds a strong foundation in literary analysis, critical thinking, and interpretation, which are useful skills. As for comprehensiveness, the curriculum is quite broad. It covers multiple literary periods, genres, and critical theories over the three years, so you’re not really missing out on the essentials. In that sense, it feels academically complete. But sometimes, it leans more towards breadth over depth you move quickly from one topic to another.

There's a placement cell and placement drives do happen in college but genuinely the package offered is not really considerable. After the 4th semester students are considered to sit in the placement drives though I would say it is not very efficient and fruitful.

Placement Experience:

Placements are available in college, the drive is quite extensive, everyone is made aware of the choices and options and counselling is present too. It is from the third year, students are eligible to apply for placements. Companies and organisations take part such as Niti ayog, Times, Geostrata, Prajatantra foundation, etc. Those who desire usually work on their CVs, keep on doi internships and then get a placement. The packages are not that impressive to be honest.
