Gauhati Medical College is one of the pioneers in establishing goid healthcare facilities in northeast India. It teaches and qualifies doctors with excellent capabilities. The MBBS curriculum includes a 1 year period of internship during which the students are supposed to serve in the hospitals for which they would be provided a stipend. In Gauhati Medical College the monthly stipend is ?35000.

The initial admission fee is ?18, 900. It is to be paid during the date of admission after the document verification part is completed. The hostel application form is to be filled up and submitted after which based on availability hostels would be provided. Generally students from a considerable distance are preferred easily for the hostel allotment.The hostel fee is to be paid at the tine of joining which is ?6000. After joining the hostel a monthly mess fee is to be paid which varies according to the hostel alloted.

The college week is a 4 day long programme which includes variety of events starting from sports, painting, singing, drama and dance competitions. Everyone is allowed to participate. There are also cultural nights and fest organized during this period. Apart from it during the cultural events celebrating the heritages of the Assam state, it also come up with mindful and honouring events thus living upto the state's cultural significance.

Gauhati Medical College consists of a high patient inflow including from the whole Northeast India. Thus it provides the students to learn from a better and huge practical experience. The college has also proven through it's results to be one of the bests by securing majority of the top 10 university ranks every year.

Basically the exam pattern is divided into 3 trimesters that covers the syllabus in 3 parts in 3 months each. After the 3rd trimester or pre-finals, the finals are conducted following a gap of a month. The theory papers are conducted first, which are a single paper in trimester exams and 2 papers consecutively in the prefinaos and finals. The syllabus is split for the 2 papers. The practicals are conducted after the theory is done.

The hostels have security 24/7.The in- tume for hostel is 6 pm. The gates are geberally closed beyond that. A register us maintained for anyone out after that time. Wardens are also present. Hospitals are also provided security and police services in collaboration from the nearby police station.
