Course Curriculum Overview

4

The main advantage of this course is to serve as a medical professional in the society. So I like this course. Weekly twice clinical postings are scheduled since the second year of pharm D for the real world application purpose. After fourth year there will be all day clinical postings except Friday. Exam timing is 3 hours, and it is conducted yearly once the regular exam and a supplementary exam is conducted for clearing the arrier papers.

Internships Opportunities

4

Intership period is of 1 year program. Our college collabs with NIMS Hospital araalummoodu, neyyattinkara, Trivandrum for the intership program. Generally there is no stipend, but the fees is reduced in the internship program to balance the stipend. ADR monitoring, patient counselling, Drug interaction checking, Case profile analysing, Ward rounds , etc,... are done in the internship program.

Fees and Financial Aid

I'm a Pharm D student. Doctor of Pharmacy. It's a six year course which includes 5 years of study and 1 year of internship. For an year 202000 is the fees. Exam fees for per subject is 1035. National scholarship of 25000 is allowed yearly for the reserved students. There is no categories in the fees structure, for all students in Pharm D, the fees structure are same. Job opportunities are very few in our country. So, better option for the abroad jobs. After 2 years of experience in India we can apply for the abroad jobs. The job opportunities are of wide varieties such as, clinical pharmacist, Research analyst, Chemist, Pharmacist, Drug manufacturing,etc,...

Campus Life

4

Onam festival, christmas festival, Holi festival, Sports Day, Arts day, College day, health days, disease days are conducted in our college. Wide variety of Books, journals, articles are included in the library. If any out of stock conditions arised, they try to manage the situation by stocking the new one to the library. All class rooms have Projector connections. Wifi should also included. Health clubs are included.

Admission

I choose this college, because it is located in my native place and travelling is so easy. Hardly 17 kms from my home to college. I didn't get any rejection from other colleges. Minimum requirement of getting a Pharm D admission is, you should score a minimum marks of 60% in the higher secondary education i.e, Plus two. There is no eligibility exam for entering the course. But an interview is conducted before entering the course to evaluate your academic capability.

Faculty

A good relationship is maintained between the students and faculties. I like every teachers who taught me the lessons. Some teachers are very harrassing in nature, but the end of the day they try to make us happy. That's why I like this profession. Teaching is a great profession. We should try to understand the mental status of the students and try to encourage them on their academic activities and status. The main exam patterns are yearly. There are 3 internal exams. Out of 30 marks we should get a minimum mark of 15 to pass. Main exam is for 70 marks. We should obtain minimum mark of 35 for each subjects. Once we fail in the theory exam, for the next supplementary the practical exam should be also attended once again.

The practical sessions of the courses are the most effective way to implement and integrate the theoretical knowledge accumulated in the classes. The hospital trainings and ward rounds are the best tools to cultivate and condition the personnel to be ready for the medical world.

Course Curriculum Overview:

The course docter of pharmacy provides insights into the use of modern medicine and therapeutics. After completing pharmd you can work as a clinical pharmacist and help docters design thier treatment regimon that provides maximum benefits to patients and is cost effective. This influenced my decision to choose this course. But for real world applications the preparation provided but the curriculum is not upto the marks. Yet the college manages to provide as clinical postings in hospital which helps to improve patient student interactions and real world conditions. I find the course still needs improvement in improving the application level skills of the students. Since the academic schedule is planned yearly the frequency and timing of exams is not too hectic. Yet there is a lot of topics to be covered in a short time. The timing in between two exams is short.

Course Curriculum Overview:

The college is known for its hospital. Its situated in a good area of town. This course is a developing course hence was new to me. The curriculum system is mainly based on improving theoretical knowledge and gives less importance in practical knowledge gain. But the course is practically useful in hospitals as it is a very important in patient counselling. Doctors diagnose the patient whereas it is the clinical pharmacist who shoild prescribr and give patient counselling about the medicine to the patient or by-stander. Hence academically the curriculum supports students by providing hospital trainings during 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th year and internship. Improvement can be done in the examination system by not making student study just for the exams and implement practical gain of knowledge. Teaching methods can be for student freindly and interactive instead of just showing slideshows which are done most of the time. Exams are conducted according to an academic calender hiven ecmvery year for that particilar year. Usually 3 sessionals are written in every 2 to 3 months. Questions for the exam are of all kinds ranging from simple to application level.

Course Curriculum Overview:

Soevific asoects of the curriculum that influenced me to decide doing Pharmd program is, in our country there is lot of prescribing errors and dispensing errors making patient life more danger. In my point of view. PharmD is an bridge between Prescriber and patient. The pharmd curriculum established by india(PCI) is not good. Because it is almost same as Bpharm curriculum. The areas for improving the course curriculum and teaching methods are to include subjects like general medicine, General Prescribing guidelines to make the pharmd as prescribing doctors and to enhance the deep into the medicine.
