What Students Say

Likes

Their attitude towards students are very polite
They have a good bus facility free of cost so we don't have to pay for the travelling
They have good hostel facilities with all basic amenities like geyser and much more

Dislikes

Campus is spread all over the gangtok it's not in one place
Teesta boys hostel is so far and not good so filthy
Lack of infrastructure is also a major reason

Course Curriculum Overview

I was into this course and field is also good mostly practical work is done hood here One and half months is the frequency of the exams More practicality would be good for teaching ..it kind of decent for real word bt more cam be done

Internships Opportunities

Internship with wadia and Sikkim gov for many things and locals tunnels settling and landslides for geological studies along with gsi offered internship approved can pursue any of the measure companies of Sikkim for internship

Fees and Financial Aid

7200 for admission 200 for counselling 4700 hostel fees for 6 months Out which 3000 is refundable Sikkim University fellowship is given 3000 per month Nsp you can apply And ongc scholarship for geology students Also nsp open for environmental studies students

Campus Life

Dj nights ,sports day and much more like hindi pakhwada and many others days are celebrated a warm welcome is given to freshers campus offers so many games competition like chess , cricket and football,many social clubs like drama, dance along with poetic and much more

Admission

I got almost over all the central universities but I choosed this because of the weather and the faculty was good from others and most importantly they have a good team for field work which helps a lot

Faculty

The faculty to student ration is quite good it's like 40:60 and I like the geology facilities the best good and well experienced professors along with good field trips .. Well the horticulture is bit bad in terms with other because of shortage There are 4 exams for one semester 3 sessional and 1 final out of which 3 sessional only 2 best will be considered

Placement Experience:

Placement cell is available in the University but it is not active for most of the department available right now. Also considering the remote location of the university and the department from every field are not actually eligible for placement such as History.

A university in the Himalayas.

Course Curriculum Overview:

Since the most important aspect of our course is field Work, what can be better than experiencing field Works in the Himalayas. Himalayas are the best place to apply your theoritical knowledge to the field. Not only field living in Himalayas means every single second you are watching and learning something about Geology. Improvement can be done in increasing the numbers of field works, we go for 14days field training twice in the course.

Well equipped nfrastructure and excellent faculty.

Placement Experience:

From the final year, a student becomes eligible for campus placements. Companies like Microsoft, Wipro, byju's and a lot more recruit students for placements. The highest salary package is 900000 per annum whereas the average salary is 600000 per annum. On an average 80-90% students get placements.

About Sikkim University

Remarks:

The only thing I regret about my university is that it doesn't have a campus of its own. Doing any program in university finds a lack of coordination in the department. University is currently in the rented building spread throughout Gangtok city.

Remarks:

Overall I can say that college is a great place to be. The college has a wide variety of extracurricular activities but it does well to make a student realize his true capabilities and excel in life.

I had an amazing time at SMIT. Not only I learnt physics but also built my character. My professors were always there to help me and go beyond their call of duty.

I chose this college because it was feasible and close to my state (Assam). It was the only central university close to my state which provided psychology honors. Honest my review

I had applied at jnu but did not got selected and few others but this university was closer to my home and Sikkim is a great place to study because of the people very good. I feel safe and secure had lots of fun.
