What Students Say
Likes
- One I thing liked was the peer group . There are people who are genuinely interested in what they do.
- The alumni is the best thing of IIT Delhi. Such a large and we'll renowned alumni network not only helps in gaining internships and all but also helps in any sort of situation
- The junior Senior bonding is among the best across all iits. Here students of all years stay in the same hostel
Dislikes
- The Gender ratio is pathetic to say the least. It's 5:1.
- The professors are very talend and knowledge but lack necessary teaching skills and empathy for the students
- The environment sometimes becomes increasingly competitive and hostile.
Course Curriculum Overview
I choose this particular course because it was in IIT Delhi secondly I didn't want to stay in my hometown of Mumbai. The course relevance is not so good in today's scenario but it provides a very good base as the basics remain the same. The exams are quite frequent. You can expect 1-2 quizzes every week and there are minor and majors exams in the semester
Internships Opportunities
Again IITD being IIT provides the best internship opportunities. The average stipend in the phase 1 is 1 lakh per month. The projects can be business, tech or finance oriented depending on the company and role. Some famous companies include JPMC, GS, Google, Microsoft , Nvidia, BCG, Bain McKinsey, Accenture, etc
Placement Experience
IIT Delhi has the best placement out of all IITs. 100% students get placed. I want to do a MBA after my degree. There 4-5 different types of jobs. One Quantitative Finance which takes in top 1% of the institute. These folks earn in crores. The second is the technical jobs which consist of coding and average package is 30 lpa. Then the most famous is consulting i.e your MBBs which offer approximately 20 lpa. Then there is analytics. There are startups. Start-ups hire the most from iitd due to its proximity from gurgoan
Fees and Financial Aid
The academic fees is around 1 lakh per semester then are Rs25,000 different academic charges making it approximately 1 lakh 25 k per semester or 2.5 Lakh per year. The hostel fees + mess fees is 8+17k.. For sc/st the academic fees is 0 There are different scholarships available on a need basis i.e. depending on the family income. There also a few alumni scholarship like Mittal scholarship along with merit scholarships based on CGPA
Campus Life
The campus life is the best at IITD. We have two famous fests Rendezvous our cultural fest and Tryst our technical fest. There is always something or other happening at the campus. There 20+ students led clubs and societies ranging from coding, blockchain societies to music dance drama. There is every imaginable club on the campus. The classrooms are world class. The sports facilities are world class. Everything from squash to chess is available. Library has all the journals and top magazines /resources.
Hostel Facilities
There are 15 hostels 13 UG and 2 PG hostels. The hostels are not in a good condition. The food is very average . The hostels are quite affordable on the other hand. It's approximately 6k per month which is very cheap. The message menu is very diverse it's just that food is not made properly. You can apply for mess and hostel through student portal
Admission
So JEE application works quite differently. After JEE advanced you fill in JOSSA counciling wherin you fill in choices for different branches across different IITs. I choose IIT Delhi chemical because it was the best I was getting at my rank of 2600. Other options where teir 1 IITs mechanical which I felt was not my cup of tea. I filled in some new branches like data science and all in Guwahati and kanpur but their cutoff was in 1000s.
Faculty
The faculty student ratio is good. It is approximately 20:1 which is very good. The faculty differs from department to department and person to person. Some professors are really approachable meanwhile some are not. The courses are relatively easy to pass but difficult to score decent cgpa in chemical engineering especially where professors grade very poorly. There 6-8 courses per semester.
