What Students Say
Likes
- I liked the environment here. It is very comfortable for studying.
- There is importance for extracurricular activities, even we have credits for that.
- All classrooms are AC fitted and There is library for studying which is full AC.
Dislikes
- I don't like the food here. It has no spice at all Feels like eating oats when you eat it regularly
- There exist a language barrier of punjabi and hindi. Those who don't know both of these must have some struggles, especially ones from south india
- There are many assignments and projects and quizzes, so you wil be struggling for other skills . You'll have to manage your time well for that
Course Curriculum Overview
I think rhe curriculm is well defined and it have real world applications such as in chemical process and calculations, mostly questions are real world industrial problems. There is a python course in one sem and C++ language in second sem. The whole curriculum is somewhat lengthy. They must reduce it here and there. There are frequent quizzes and viva which are easy to moderate level. Exams are moderate to hard.If you study well, you can pass the exams.
Internships Opportunities
Not so much direct internships are not available. But you'll get good internships through linked in and such if you have the required skills. Companies such as siemens will give internships. If you are that skilled, you may even get google internships, as there is a google developer students club in our college.
Placement Experience
Here placements are somewhat good as it is a NIT, but not as much as compared to other NITs. In my branch the placement percentage was above 90%. Average package was 7.35Lpa and highest was about 14lpa My plans are to go for off-campus placements if I'm not satisfied with the placement here. Here companies Like BPCL,Siemens etc visit the college for placement offers and interviews.
Fees and Financial Aid
My fees is 110000 rupees per year because I'm obc student and my income is below 1 lakh, so i don't need to pay tution fees. SC/ST students also dont need to pay their tution fees. Those who have income between 1 and 5 lakh need to pay 1/3 of the tution fees and above 5 lakh they have to pay full tution fees. There is no management quota here as it is a NIT. But there is DASA quota which is for foreign students who have to pay higher fees comparatively. I haven't opted any scholarship.
Campus Life
Campus life is good. Many events and celebrations are conducted here. There is technical festival called Techniti and Cultural festival called Utkansh conducted annually. There is good consideration of extracurricular activities, even it have credits for that. Facilities such as Library are good for studying. But quantity of books are not enough. There are many social groups and clubs here that we can enjoy our offtime rather than focusing on studying everytime.
Hostel Facilities
Hostel rooms are good as it is spacious. My room is for 4 students and it is pretty good. But room for 2 students are not so good. Hostel food is disappointing. You will get bored after eating for somedays. South indians and non vegans will have difficulty eating it. All the registration process for hostel is through College official site.
Admission
I applied mostly to Other NITS in south through JOSAA counseling. I didn't got admission there because, my JEE marks were not enough for that and each year cutoff is increasing due to increase in candidates. My hostel food and celebrations are not as good as compared to the NITs in south. Admission process is through JOSAA and CSAB counselling as same for all NITs. Admission process was very smooth.Only there was some time of waiting.
Faculty
Hwre we have a good student to faculty ratio. All the theory and tutorial classes are in mostly English So i don't have any difficulty in understanding that. But in workshop, the teachers there mostly speak hindi and Punjabi, so as a person from south,i have some difficulty in understanding, But my friends help me.In a year there are two sems and each sem have a mid sem and end sem exam. Most of the students pass the exams, but some do not. As in first year, there is somewhat of higher chance of failing subjects like mathematics, So you must study thoroughly. After a time, everyone will manage to get good scores.
