Course Curriculum Overview

4

Although, i feel there is a serious need to update the curriculum of this college, considering the curriculum of other colleges and NLUs, where introductory concepts like law of torts, contracts are being taught in first or second semester, while we studied them in our second and third semester. Additionally, there are no mid-term examinations, only end-semester exams which creates a procrastinative character among the students. If i were to suggest any areas for improvement in terms of the course curriculum, i would introduce mid-term examinations and also new and evolving aspects of law would be introduced in the curriculum. Additionally, certificate courses could also be offered.

Internships Opportunities

4.5

For the first and second years, the month of December, May and June is available for internships. From the third year, the months of December, May, June and July can be availed for internship purposes. Students get ample amount of time to even intern virtually during the academic sessions post classes.

Placement Experience

3

Students from third year have started getting Pre-Placement Offers, but many of those are majorly due to their own accomplishments. Students get ample amount of time to intern at various law firms and courts, to secure a PPO on their own. In addition to this, the Internship and Placement Committee, often comes in aid to secure PPOs for the students of the graduating batch.

Fees and Financial Aid

Annual Fees is around 180k to 200k which includes one time fees, caution money(refundable), registration fees, and other fees. Mess fee is 32k for one academic year. There is no hostel fees, it is already included in the mess and annual fees. Scholarships are also available to the reserved category students whose family's annual income is below a certain amount. Recently, mobile phones were also distributed to each student of our college under any government scheme.

Campus Life

3.5

the overall campus life of rmlnlu is fast-paced yet full of fun. the committees organise various events throughout the academic year. the cultural committee organises fests, semcom holds seminars and lectures, lac organises legal aid camps and prison visits while its adr cell organises adr events like negmed and client counselling. ddc organises debating events and competitions, ipc organises sessions and events relating to securing placements and internships. there are also various clubs like naqaab (dramatics), sargam (singing society), natraj (dance society) for recreation.

Hostel Facilities

3.5

The quality of mess food is something of concern, though limited to boys hostel. The quality of mess food is below average, students, including myself, often order food via Swiggy/Zomato. Initially, in the boys hostel, you get a roommate in your first year and after that you get your own single room. It is a residential campus, so the hostels are located inside the campus only. ACs are not allowed. Coolers and Heaters are allowed.

Admission

I had an option to choose between RMLUNLU and SLS, Pune. I chose RMLNLU, considering it to be a safe option, since RML has half the batch strength as that of SLS, Pune. Although both colleges, have similar average placements, alumni base and both are established academic institutions, RMLNLU had that NLU-tag, which seemed at that time, to have some benefit of its own. The admission process of RMLNLU, is fairly simple, once your name comes in a list, you go their website, download the registration form, fill it up and submit it, then submit the documents required for registration. Then you need to pay the fees, which can be done directly from the website. Once fees is paid, all one needs to do is bring all the docs and fee receipts, and show it to the hostel warden, and then a room will be alloted to you.

Faculty

4

The faculty in RML are good and competent, easily-approachable and very understanding. The batch of 180 is divided into 2 sections, to the faculty-to-student ratio in classes remain 90:1. My personal favourite is our Criminal Law Faculty, Pandey Sir. The reason why he is my favourite teacher is because his classes do not feel like classes, his vocational skills are excellent and he teaches even difficult topics in such a simple manner and always tells us something new to learn about, not particularly relating to the course curriculum.

The Placements Cell became more active in the last few years of my college. With regular placement cell sessions being organised, CV drafting workshops being organised, lawyers and various other legal luminaries, and sector heads from Tier-1 and Tier-2 firms being called to have engaging sessions with students, and tying up with the college to provide summer/winter internship opportunities to students. Students even got the opportunity to intern under Senior Adv. Pradeep Rai, among several other advocates. Students have received placement offers from firms like Kamiti & Associates, SAM, Kahitan etc. The Package ranges from 3,00,000-6,0000 p.a. Various seniors have also gone abroad to pursue LLM in IVY League colleges like Oxford, Cambridge etc.
