What Students Say
Likes
- Classrooms are quite large and well equipped with all learning amenities. The seating in the classrooms is comfortable and modern and students, including I did not face any discomfort during classes. Also, construction is going on for expansion
- The class size is small to medium, mostly consisting of 15-35 students in each class. This helps the professors in paying individual attention to the students and the students can approach the professors individually for doubt solving.
- The college pays lot of attention to extra curricular activities including drama, theatre, music, singing and sports.
Dislikes
- There can be a shortage of manpower sometimes, and the professors can sometimes miss classes while tending to their other responsibilities.
Course Curriculum Overview
The college mostly provides general degree courses. The course content is theoretical and has little to no practical or real life applications. The only option for students enrolled in these courses is to get into a masters or postgraduate degree after this.
Internships Opportunities
The students can apply for internships with local institutions and bodies, including non-governmental organisations operating and active in the area of Assam and North-Easten India. The college also runs various drives from time to time in which the students can take part in.
Placement Experience
Although the college runs a placement cell, it's ineffective in assisting students to secure placements. The courses run by the college have poor employability and there is the option of pursuing a master's degree after completing an undergraduate course form this college
Fees and Financial Aid
The college being a government aided college doesn't have high fees but it can vary according to the course, the type of student, the year of study etc. Generally, for under graduate courses, the admission fees in total amounts to about 20,000 for science courses and about 15,000 for arts courses. A breakdown of my fee receipt is given below: Tuition Fee (for 1st year): Rs. 15,500 Laboratory Fee: 750 Campus Development Fee: 2300 For arts courses, Tuition fee amounts to about Rs. 9,500 and there is no Laboratory fees. The college runs many scholarships that are sponsored by locals and government like Ishan Uday Scholarship for North Eastern Region, OBC Scholarship, Binoy Ch. Kakati Scholarship etc. Also, there might be provisions for students that are residing Below Poverty Line.
Campus Life
The college is mostly opted for my day scholars hence the campus life is very vibrant during the daytime. The extra curricular activities are various and numerous and there is something for everyone, including dance and performing arts like singing, drama and theater etc.
Admission
Firstly, the college is quite reputed in the region of Upper Assam and Northeast. This college is situated in the town of Dibrugarh and is well connected to the other parts of the town via rickshaw and auto.
Faculty
The faculty members are really good, that is they are well qualified and most of them are really helpful in all aspects of the students lives. The student to teacher ratio is also quite healthy, 20:1 across most departments. It is slightly higher in arts and humanities courses. Dr. Jyoti Prasad Phukan and Mr. Anshuman Borthakur of the physics department are the faculties I liked the most. The college conducts 2 exams each year and the end of each semester, and 2 mid-sem exams. The exams have a medium level of difficulty and almost 35% of the students fail to clear the exams, although most of them aren't serious in academics.
