What Students Say?
Likes
- The thing that I like the most is the return on investment (ROI) which is Highest in India and my dept. is CSE which holds the best ROI among all branches.
- Then comes the attendance policy, in JU we don't have strict 75% attendance policy . 45-50% is good to go.
Dislikes
- The infrastructure isn't good , as it's a state govt. college the infrastructure is not as par with IITs or NITs.
- The campus is very small (56acres the main campus) and there's not much of facilities inside the campus.also the campus isn't too clean.
Course Curriculum Overview
Everything is fine , it's like all IITs and NITs. We are taught many things which are necessary and few unnecessary things too, but that's the case in every old school of India. I wish that could be changed , we are more focused on the traditional curriculum of learning , whohc helps if you're interested in Masters or PhD but for placememets you need to work hard separately... if that part could be incorporated within the curriculum I feel that could be better. There are no such specific frequency of tests, but semester exams are held every 4-5 months (excluding the vacations). Exams are quite difficult , few questions are easy to do but few are very tough.
Internships Opportunities
Interships are also very good , though placements are better and intersnships are tough to get. All good students from all the branches have secured internships with a bit of preparation. JU generally allows for summer internships which is 2 months paid internships. Companies like Samsung,Google,Salesforce,Microsoft,BCG,pwc and quant companies like tower reserach capital and even Graviton offered has offered intersnhip this year. I've my senior who got 50k work from home interhship from Samsung Bengaluru. Later he got a PPO from the same company.
Placement Experience
The placement is superb which I'm vry eager to discuss. Almost everyone of our college got placed even the lower branches did well in the placements ... branches securing even 100% placements... For CSE the %age is 97 ... rest went for higher studies. In CSE the average package is somewhat between 18-22lpa. This year Google have made offers of 57lpa to a few students, Samsung offered 44lpa,Wells Fargo 27Lpa... these ctc are well known .... but many companies visit here which include tech, consultancy, banks ...
Loan/ Scholarship Provisions
After clearing WBJEE, we generally get Jadavpur University (JU), for the counseling we need to pay Rs500 which we pay to WBJEE Board , then the seat Acceptance fee is Rs5000 , this covers the two years fees. When we are taking the final admission then we need to pay Rs710 for all branches expect Information Technology which is nearly Rs25000. In 3rd , 4th year we need to pay tution fees of 2400 and that's it ... it's the same for all students SC,ST and there's no management quota. Jadavpur University provides various scholarships, but as the fees are minimal those are generally hidden ... but scholarship such as SVMCM ,OASIS are few of them ... JU also providee need and merit based scholarships to students.
Campus Life
The infrastructure of the college is not top notch when it's compared to IITs or NITs but other things like ROI, Placemenets, attendace policy , flexibility covers them all to give a good overall experience. Jadavpur organises many fests like Sanskriti,Srijan,Ibdita... and many small fests whihc are regular and tech fests also. JU also has well organised clubs like coding club, debating club, dancing, astrophysics club, photography club etc. Clubs and societies are very helpful for students they offer exposure and building social connections. We have a large central libraries with all types of books , magazines and journals ... all are very well systematised. We also have deprtmental libraries which are inside the dept. building and which are more helpful.
Hostel Facilities
One room is shared between 3,4 students. We have 2,3 fans, beds, almirah, curtains, mirror and very fast lan line. the rate is very cheap like Rs 10 for room rent and Rs 15 for electricity. The food quality is also very good whihc generally costs 1800-2000 per month wwhich includes only two times meals. For hostel we need to register earlier during admission but the beds are limitted so hostels are oeffered to lower family income students and if the beds are stilll vacant then filled with other students who have applied for it.There was a bit of ragging culture but now it's under control.Mess ,PG,flats are easily available nearby..
Admission
I chose this college because it's one of the best college in India , in 2024 its nirf engg. ranking is 12 which is awesome. Second is it's ROI whihc is the max in india. Talking about other reasons I prepared for JEE , I got IIEST Shipbur CSE but chose JU CSE. But I couldn't get into IIT that's the sad part... but I was very happy because people getting IIT having ranks like 2k,3k even left IIT for JU CSE. I got admitted after I've qualified WBJEE. Then the counselling process , I've got JU CSE in 1st round of seat allotment.
Faculty
Jadavpur University boasts a very highly qualified faculty members , all of them are expert in their own field. In CSE 1st year we are taught by many other professors but solely we have like 17 faculty memebers for CSE . IT also has similar no of faculties and sometimes the professors are exhanged b/n the two depts. I like the HOD of our dept. the most because 1st of all he is very well qualified and he teachers us operating system which has been my favourite nowadays I can't tell the name .... but you can google it. And among them the one I don't like is the prof who teaches DSA , he's kinda boring , we all feel sleepy in his class and he's also strict ... I can't disclose his name too. Our course is divided in 8 sems , with regular tests , tutorials and semester exams.
Interview Experience
There was only a single written exam which is WBJEE , after getting a good rank one can join JU.Now there has been admission though sports quota also. No there has not been any interviews or group discussions or anything.
