What Students Say
Likes
- the college has a very good atmosphere all around , very open minded and you would find many people helping each other , even the people they dont know. the campus is also very beautiful and very peaceful , you can find alot of peace.
- another good thing about xaviers is , the extra curricular activites and the way it develops you as a person. you have many things to do in college , join various clubs , or any sport team or be a part of the student council
- xaviers is known for its fests such as malhar and itika and so on, it creates a lively atmosphere in college , where students take part in different activities
Dislikes
- the academic and extra curricular competition is very intense and can be pressurizing at times to excel. being in mumbai , travelling during peak hours is one of the biggest challenges anyone can ever face
- during fests there is no crowd management and it could get over crowded easily. even for tickets you have to wait for a long time , there is no smooth procedure
- They have a strict attendance policy of 75% which can be hard to maintain if you are balancing many things for eg: nss or ncc etc
Course Curriculum Overview
I decided to choose this course because i thought AI and IT would be the future of the plnet as technology goes on advancing. the course does prepare you well enough to face real world applications but even you have to put in the hard yards by innovative thinking and creating something extraordinary. the course has a lot of scope for improvement espically in the area of learning and teaching. the subjects have a very limited time to master which is very difficult to cope up with and also it doesnt go in detail of every subject. instead have a course where students select their strong subjects and focus on it entirely. choosing subjects or finding out which subject is he/she strong in can be quite frustating at times. The exam timings and its pattern is fine where you get 2 unit tests and a final semester paper and you require overall 40 marks out of 100 to pass.
Fees and Financial Aid
the fees for first year students is 50000 and it slightly reduces to 47000 in the second year but rises again in the third year and goes to 52000. the free structure is very complex which i as follows : Admission processing fees - 250rs ,computer lab fees - 5000rs, computer practical fees -4000rs, cum marksheet and passing certificate - 100rs, development fees - 750rs, exam fees - 5000rs , gymkhana and library fees - 900rs, extra curricular activity and project fees -6500rs, tuition fees - 28439rs , convocation and utility fees - 750rs and there are many other small fees. other courses like plain bsc have around 6000-10000rs as their yearly fees , similar for ba students. there isnt Financial aid as such but big well developed compaines come in for placements and there are many who get a package of 22lac per annum,
Campus Life
campus life is very lively , there are many clubs you can join such indian music group , social service league, theory club and so on. these clubs have small exhibitions and fests all around the year. malhar is the biggest fest of the college. you can find all kinds of books in the library and you can even lend it for a particular period of time. there are many competitions that are kept in college, which allows you to join the college team. ecc events are compulsory for each one as you have to complete a specific amount of points at the year end , if not completed you wont get your degree. all clubs , sports and ecc help in the overall development of that student , he makes new friends , learns how to deal with things etc.
Admission
being honest i had applied in various colleges for eg: Kelkar , Khalsa , Ruparel and so on but i never got in any of the colleges because i had less marks in maths in my 12th std board exams. according to university rules you need atleast 50% which i didnt have and so couldnt make it. I got in xaviers because it is autonomous and they had a entrance exam , i got admission in special category i.e. ex servicemen quota. i was trying to find colleges with good cricket teams but didnt get any college. Xaviers was my first and last option then. Admission process is very simple for bsc it, you have a an entrance exam, they take the aggregate of that exam and your 12th std marks , then a merit list comes out , theres a christan quota, special quota, student with disabilites and general quota. based on the merit you get in.
Faculty
the relationship between student and faculty in this college is similar to that friends. they are available most of the times and never say no for doubts or anything as such. they help you take decisions when youre confused of taking one , be it related to your academics or your career goals. regular ptms to understand the growth of the student. they often support students to join clubs , be interactive with everyone and make bonds that you remember it for lifetime. Miss Lydia fernandes and Sir Aaron Johns are the two best teachers i feel in the IT department according to me , they both face backlash from many students but they inspire me alot , Miss Lydia because she is going through similar situation as mine and knows what path i want to go and encourages me for it. Handling 2-3 things at a time is not easy but when i speak to her it does seem like everything is possible. Aaron Sir because the way he thinks and puts forward his thoughts and his innovative thinking has inspired mealot
