IIM Amritsar review

The student can choose the subjects based on their preference and the faculty teaching it. The problem is the subject once choosen cannot be changed in later stage and the subjects are final. The students should be able to change the subject in 2nd year so that they can make informed decision.

Yes, hundred percent placement was provided for the internship. The average stipend was 90000 for 2 months. The roles were various and student can choose based on their preference. But once the student is selected they are not elegible for taking part in further process

Placements were good. The students were given complete placement support for both summer internship and final placemtents. There was 100 percent placement in the college and more than 450 roles were offered for the final placement.

The College fees was 16 Lakhs for 2 years and the students are supposed to pay it in 6 equal installments, each installment to be paid before the start of a term. The fees included hostel stay fees also. Mess fees was 25000 per quarter which was to be paid along with the term fees. The student has to pay 25000 caution deposit at the start of the course which was refunded post the completion of the course after deduction depending on the damage cause to the property during the stay for 2 years which is mostly negligible. The fees was same for all and easy education loan were available with a floating rate of 6 to 8 percent depending on the banks. Scholarship of full tuition fees reimbursement of nearly 5 lakhs per year was provided for the top 7 best performers of the college. The scholarship was divided based on the course. top 5 from general MBA course top 1 from HR course and topper from BA course were given the scholarship.

The campus life was good and there were people from all over India. Events were there for every student to interact with each other. There were various kinds of events. The student bodies helped shaping the personalities of the student.

Hostel rooms provided were double sharing with an attached bathroom. There were provision for games for students such as pool table, TT table, carrom, chess. There were grounds for outdoor activities. Students can go in and out any time but entry must be done while entry and exit. Shops were available near hostel.

The parameter for choosing this college was that it was an IIM and secondly it was the top third generation IIM which I was selected for. The admission process was post filling the form there was an interview round and the merit list was released based on the interview.

The faculty for student ratio in the college is 10 : 1. Most of the faculty in the college are approachable both for studies as well as personal issues. The Faculty who is one of the best in college is Prof. Pavneet Singh. Being a mechanical engineer, I have zero knowledge of Economics but under his guidance I was able to grasp most of the concepts of microeconomics. There are 6 terms during which we have to study almost 45 to 50 subjects. There are mid terms for few subjects in each term and end term for all. The marking scheme is grading type and the students are graded based on their score compared to the fellow class mates. 1st year is common for all and 2nd year students can choose electives depending on their choice.

One round of personal interview was there post which the merit list was released and the selected students were called for admission. The PI was general tell me about yourself and some general knowledge and current affairs.
