Course Curriculum Overview

Commerce is necessary for survival. You learn about a business, marketing although Bcom is very common and underrated nowadays but it's a good affordable option to complete graduation.Bcom opens path to many professions.

Loan/ Scholarship Provisions

When I took admission I was charged 3350 rs only for first semester and for the second semester I've paid 520 rs.Estimatedly,I have to pay 7000-8000 rs all total for my 3 year Bcom general course.CU takes other charges for exams and all.

Campus Life

2.5

City College actually arranges nice events such The Sangrila is very famous event which is arranged by only City College,It is arranged generally during the Durga Puja month with painting competitions, Dancing competitions, Singing competitions and much more.Guests are invited during those Sangrila nights.Another famous event is The Annual Social of City College, last time it was arranged in Netaji Indoor Stadium with performance of The Fossils and Darshan Raval. The class rooms are very old and teaching techniques are traditional too!Annual Sports day is also arranged every year. The Students Council can be a boon for some and annoyance for some as well,if you're part of it you have to go on processions and all.

Admission

When I took admission in City College,I opted for other colleges too(all were government aided colleges),I didn't have money to take admission in luxurious private colleges. The other colleges I opted for, were quite far from my home and the transportation is quite complex while City College is quite easy to reach with various transportation mediums available for all. Also City College is one of the oldest colleges in Kolkata and the building looks absolutely vintage. So I chose City College over other colleges I opted for.

Faculty

3

The classes are not very regular so are the faculty members which is very common in Government colleges nowadays. The faculties teach well though,The Head of the department of Commerce is a very smart and good teacher. The exams are taken before CU external exams. The question papers are quite standard but the marks are given on an average basis. The students who does Student's Union gets unfair advantages sometimes.

Placement Experience:

On passing 5th semester, the students of Goenka College of Commerce and Business Administration are eligible for campus placement offers. The campus reach out college during our sixth semester to interview us. After passing sixth semester we can proceed with the jobs in case we qualify. All the Big 4s viz EY, Deloitte, PwC and KPMG including with MNCs reach our college for campus placement opportunities. They definitely select students each year. The highest package offered till date is 10 lakhs with a associate profile. The average package is 3 laks. The percentage of students getting placement offer is between 5% to 10 %. My plan after the BCOM course is becoming a successful Chartered Accountant and Cost and Management Accountant.

The placements are good. Top recruiting companies of our college are Wipro, ITC, PWC, Capital First, Future General and Times of India. Students majorly go for higher education, and around 30% of the students opted for internships. The average salary package offered was 2.5-3 LPA. Job roles were for students from all 3 specialisations like finance, marketing and HR.
