IIT Roorkee Detailed Review

NEP 2020 is implemented in IIT Roorkee so course structure has changed.TMI-101 (Tinkering and Mentoring ) is compulsory course for all student and carries some credits .In TMI they give students some projects to work upon which let them show their creativity. We have labs each week and Lab assistants are also very helpful.

Many students get oncampus internship but that number is genrally less . Most students go for off campus interships.If a student do well in intership he/she may get PPO(Pre placement offer).Internship are secured generally be students having good cgpa and communication skills.

Since its an IIT , placements are generally good . CSE have an average of more than 30 lpa with multiple companies like Microsoft, Google , Adobe , Meta visiting.Other branches like chemical , civil , mechanical also have average package of more than 15 lpa.Overall Average package is 17 lpa.

Year wise tuition fee is 200,000 but there are some other charges like insurance , maintenance etc, so total fee to be paid is 221,100. If someone avails hostel and mess facilies , the charges are as follows : Hostel Rent: 10000 per year. Mess Charges: 46500 per year. For SC/ST category , tuition fee is waived . So they only have to pay Hostel and mess charges if they are availing it. Scholarships: Fee waiver is available for GEN/OBC /EWS students having family income <800,000 rupees. 2/3 of total tuition fee is waived if income is between 1lakh and 8lakh . If its less than 1 lakh , the total tuition fee is waived. MCM Scholarship: This scholarship is only available to 25% students having family income less than 8lakh.They get tuition fee waived off and also get 1000 per month for 10 month.

Campus life is amazing with various fests like Thomso , Cognizant. Sports Complex is also there , which provides access to most sports out there. Most clubs are run by students and selection process includes interview.

First year boys generally get three seater room with a bed , chair and study table. Mess Menu is good but food is mid. Hostel and mess is affordable. Most students avail mess and hostel facilies .Since Roorkee is small town so there are not much pg facility are there.

I gave JEE Mains and JEE Advanced and qualified both of them .After which I applied for JOSAA counselling and had choices of different IITs/NITs / IIITs /GFTIs. IITs are topmost institution of country so i decided to join IIT only . I was getting circuital branches in new IITs but i wanted to join only top 7 because i have plans to do Masters abroad.In Bomaby /Delhi/Madras i was getting lower branches like textile and metallurgy but i also wanted a mid branch. IITR is also close to my home so distance factor was also there.

Faculity student ratio is around 1:10.Most professors teach well and are highly experienced. Teaching Assistant (TA ) are assigned to each batch which solves doubts and take tutorial classes. TAs are generally 4th year topper of the course or Phd Students .
