What Students Say
Likes
- The college is huge and lush green . The atmosphere is fantastic with clean air without any air or sound pollution and living here has made my health very well. The faculty here are well trained with many professors having Phd's abroad .
- I normally interact with many seniors who help and guide me incase I have any doubt regarding any topic whether it is academic or not.The infrastructure here is world class and the placement statistics were good even though there was a recession.
- The curriculum is also quite good because of the introduction of the dual major option this year. Due to this a student can pursue another degree other than his parent degree`which has also helped the institution to go up world rankings from 271to222
Dislikes
- The only thing I disliked regarding the campus is that the hostels are quite far from the nalanda complex where the classes of all the departments are conducted.Normally due to the tiemtable I have to go around several times from hostel to class.
- The other thing is in the mess for anything they do they just add aloo which I am not offending but personally I felt a little bit too much . Sometimes even in some random curries they just add aloo for no particular reason.
Course Curriculum Overview
Majorly I would say the double major was the best thing that influenced me to join here and also I was getting the department of Industrial and Systems engineering which is a circuital branch that helps up in opening many new oppotunities in internships and placements. The scope of the department and the courses they are offering also was a major part which helped me to take this department. This year they also introduced AI/ML courses for the students of all the departments so that they could keep up with the pace of the advancements in technology. Exams are normally once in a month.
Internships Opportunities
There are many companies which offer internships such as tech giants like Google , Microsoft and in the consulting field we do have companies like Nomura , They also give internships which help us to get a pre placement offer in the first year itself.
Placement Experience
The placements are quite good with a highest package of 2.68 crore and an average salary of 18 lakhs per annum. Around 80% of the people get placed with a lot of companies visiting the college. I plan to do a job for the first 2 years and afterwards I want to pursue PhD course from a renowned college in the world.
Fees and Financial Aid
I will pay about 3lakh rupees as the fee which includes the hostel and mess fee combined. The general candidates need to pay all the fee but for SC/ST candidates there will be no tuition fee . There are also fee waivers like if family income is less than 1 lakh per annum then you will get 100% tuition fee waiver and if the family income is between 1 and 5 lakh per annum we need to pay only 1/3rd of tuition fee which amounts to 33333 rupees per semester. There are also various meritcum need scholarships which are funded by various alumni including Mr.Vinod Gupta.
Campus Life
There are two fests held annually which are the Spring fest and the kshitiz in which some of the celebratiea across the country are invited. The library is asias largest technical library with over 3 lakh books present in it.
Hostel Facilities
We are given a wooden bed, a plastic chair , a wooden study table and a lan port with a fan for every student . Here we have high speed wifi and lan which helps us to do all the academic activities in time.I currently am a boarder of the Lal Bahadur Hall of residence.
Admission
I joined the college after clearing JEE Advanced and through josaa I joined this department. All the forms and everything will be sent to your registered email id after your seat has been fixed in the college. The difficulty level of exams is quite good and the grading is done in a relative manner. The admission process was quite delicate and even if we miss a single document they wont admit the student which needs to be improved as soon as possible.
Faculty
The faculty to student ratio here in IIT KGP is 20:1 which is quite fantastic considering it has around 17000 students in the campus. Due to the less ratio it actually benefits a lot of students as they can get that extra time with their professors which would help their development. The faculty here are highly qualified with many having PhD's from some renowned collges across the globe. We as a student can interact with teachers anytime within the class and in their respective staffrooms from 8am to 6pm on weekdays .
