Remarks
The college management could definitely do better. They are trying to digitalize everything with is a really good thing.
Entrance Preview
It was close to my home and the feel of the place was really nice. Plus they have great placements. It almost felt like I was in a place that felt too unreal. There was and is conflict in the city but that doesn't affect the students until a shutdown. It's a different experience with ample learning opportunities.
Course Curriculum Overview
The course was simply structured. 1st year was a common year for all branches where we had basic common subjects of all branches combined. The actual branch course started from the 3rd semester and gained pace from there. There were many internals, practicals and a lot of exams. There was a good balance of practical and theoretical.
Internships Opportunities
No my College didn't provide internships. Every student had to search for their own internship or training pertaining to respective branches
Placement Experience
The placements in my College were not too good yet not too bad. CSE and IT branches were almost always 100% placed. While other branches like chemical, metallurgy and civil suffered. It's different for different years. But the most important factor is the location. Some companies actually don't come unless it's a pool campus placement because they are scared of the conflict in the place.
College Events
Our College has had many events over my course of staying there. The first event obviously is the Freshers', then we had our TechFest which was a 3-day event and gave ample opportunities to the students to show their capabilities. We also had other functions like alumni meet, farewell, TEDx sessions. Other seminars and regular events were also held. Festivals were celebrated with good zeal in the college.
Fee Structure And Facilities
The fee structure is very feasible but is growing every year. At my time the fees was 40k for each semester plus 15k hostel and mess fees. Which made it a total of approximately 4 lakh for the whole course. They also offered scholarships in some cases.
Fees and Financial Aid
I'm not aware of what were the actual schemes in my College because I never qualified the criteria for any scholarship but yes there were good scholarships offered for SC/ST backgrounds.
Campus Life
The campus life was the best there. It was different than the rest of the Indian colleges. Mostly because of the weather, we used to have an opposite holiday schedule. It was beautiful out there and truly enjoyable with friends. There are many cafes and hangout spots plus the scenic beauty is insane. One can never get Srinagar out of his/her mind. The gender ratio was insane. 1:8 is not a good ratio but that was that. There were regular competitons and many opportunities for students of different interests.
Hostel Facilities
The food was as it is in every hostel. BAD. But sometimes it used to be tolerable after many mess committee struggles. The hostels were not that good but it didn't really matter much. As years progressed, the room you got accomodateed lesser people. So you start with about 4 people in a room, progressing to two and then one in case of boys.
Alumni/Alumna
Yes. As I said earlier, no one can actually forget life in our College so the alumni circle is strong and the seniors are quite helpful and share their experiences generously.
Exam Structure
There used to be 6 subjects in almost all semesters. The exam pattern has changed now so I'll tell you the latest one. In every semester, there were minor exams which used to be held every day one after the other. So it took up 6 days. Then just before the majors we used to have our competitions exams which comprised of a viva n written plus the experimental demonstration. Then the majors were held with a break of 1 day for each exam.
Admission
I gave JEE main entrance. I secured 114 marks which made my overall rank of about 78981 (if I remember correctly). I sat for the counseling and I did not get in till the 4th round. I got metallurgy branch in NIT Srinagar which was upgraded to chemical in internal sliding round.
Faculty
The faculty in my College was mostly comprised of experienced professors and a blend of contractual faculty (young) as well. Almost all of them were well equipped with their course knowledge and the classroom teaching was great. The attendance was compulsory atleast 75% of the times.
