Course Curriculum Overview

3

Biotechnology is a booming industry in the world. I had selected this course hoping to achieve a successful career here in India. Little did I know that biotechnology had not picked up its pace yet in India. The exams conducted was frequently with 1 or 2 model exams in each semester for theoretical and practical. This helped us to have enough basic knowledge when we finally pass out. It would be better if more internships and industrial visits are included in the syllabus. It would give a better idea about our future. It will also help us to boost our resume. The jobs in biotechnology offers low salary here but large varities of experience can be gained. This helps us to have a better career outside of India.

Fees and Financial Aid

The course I studied, Bsc Biotechnology had a tution fees of 19500 rs per semester. This includes tution fees and lab fees. Exam fees must be paid in each semester. It will vary from 500-100 rs. I've not applied for any scholarships during my studies. There were scholarships available for students of different categories such as single parent students. Uniform costs about Rs 2000. For certain programmes, fees are collected which depends on the department.

Campus Life

3.5

Ive had a decent campus life with various arts and cultural programmes. Our college is known for our competitive arts festival which usually occurs anywhere between January to March. Arts is taken very seriously as selected candidates represent our college for the Mahatma Gandhi University Kalolsavan where more than 100 colleges participate. College elections and politics are as usual fiery and exciting. The whole college is in motion when elections are held. Faculty has a difficult task of containing the students. Sports days are not as exciting as hoped for. Students usually take leave during those days. All the cultural programmes are held with full passion and joy. Especially Onam and Holi are 2 of the most awaited programmes

Admission

I had completed my 12th exams and applied for several colleges in Mahatma Gandhi University Kottayam portal known as Ekajalakam. There were no entrance examinations as such. The application was purely based on my 12th marks. I had several colleges placed in my allotments and was selected by Al Ameen College, Edathala Aluva. There was a fees of Rs 400 for registering in the Mahatma Gandhi University portal. The application process was smooth as they contacted me after my application. They provided certain dates for orientation classes and my entry was completed.

Faculty

4.5

The teachers in my department were quite friendly and easily approachable. They provided us enough guidance for us to individually choose a career path after our degree. They never scammed us or tried to fool us by showing a fake picture of the reality. They were quite straightforward in their ideology. The teachers were strict when need and friendly otherwise. Some of the teachers were a PhD holder, some were a doctorate etc. They provided us with enough hands-on and practical experience that gave us a clear idea on our future. They set up several workshops and suggested internships, which we attended gladly.

Course Curriculum Overview:

Course curriculum is almost best. Curriculum doesn't influenced me in deciding this course. Curriculum should add internships. Currently there is no mandatory internship, if students are interested they can do internship during vacations. As we are learning psychology which need to be practiced in real world settings, curriculum must include real world training to help students understand things more effectively. Currently intervel between exams are non existent. Internal exams, then semester exams, you blink once, next internal exams, followed by semester exams. Syllabus is understandable, can learn if you try. Exams are also manageable. Real world examples and stories can be included in teaching methods, as psychology is related to humans and human interaction, to get better grasp of concepts. Rather than focusing on passing exam, should focus on the concepts and understand them in-depth. There are a lot of theories to study by heart. And there are many repetitive topics that overlap, but in different semesters.

I feel in love with mathematics in plus two time. The coursee are more application based when compared to other. Out college being an autonomous college has good grip to keep up to the level of good education. Overall teaching methods and syllabus are very good. Frequency of exams are troublesome during the last time of year because all the programmes like youth festival annual day etc come together

Course Curriculum Overview:

My course is Bsc Biotechnology. It is a research associated course. Its main scope is in research. But in every industry let it be medical or industrial a biotechnologist is required. I would like more practical knowledge than theory knowledge in this course as it is needed to be implemented in labs hands on experience is essential. Exams are conducted every 6 months as semester. Class tests and model exams are conducted frequently. Assignments, projects, seminar ,etc.. are given every month.
