- The language barrier is kind of prominent in this college.
- The faculty of other courses are apparently a little bit strict and unreasonable at times.
Course Curriculum Overview
The curriculum is very well designed for a beginner in a design course. It has all the basics in the first semester. Mainly the fact that basics in all the subjects being taught made me choose this college over all others. The curriculum teaches you how to make a design and how to empathize with the customer which is the most needed skill to survive in the real world and be a designer. There could be more studios and more materials to explore, that would benefit the students immensely. The frequency of exams is 2 in between the semester and one at the end. Their difficulty level depends on the student and their liking to a subject.
Internships Opportunities
I am still in my first year so I do not know much about the placements and the interships. But according to my seniors and friends, the packages are good and 85% of students got placed last year. Internships are mandatory after the second year of college with stipend of 5-15 k.
Placement Experience
After the 8th semester a student becomes eligible for campus placements. Before that we can do internships. Multiple companies visit and the placement rate is about 85%. Even IT companies hire designers. The highest paid designer in our campus had a package of 1.25L and average is 25k. I'm planning on working for a while after my degree and then deciding on whether I want to do masters or not.
Fees and Financial Aid
The total fee is 4L per year. This is lower than most design colleges in India. It also has reservations and scholarships based on your portfolio and interview. Things like design materials and materials for submissions during exams are to be bought by us. There are two major scholarships available, one of them is 40% of the fee, and the other one is 50%. Campus employment is not much available in this college.
Campus Life
There is one annual festival called Aatmatrisha. It happens in the month of march and lasts for a week. There are 2 major libraries in our campus. There are seperate libraries for each course in the respective blocks. Books can be borrowed anytime. Technological provisions in our campus and classrooms are very good. There are led tv screens and black and white boards in every classroom and studio. There is a basketball court, football court, cricket ground, squash court, table tennis area, badminton court etc for students to access anytime. There is a gym too. The clubs in PES are very nice. There are various clubs for dance, music, poetry etc where anyone can participate.
Admission
To be eligible for this course, one must submit their portfolio and attend an interview. All the application forms and details can be found on the PES website, in detail. Exams are conducted thrice in a semester. Their difficulty level depends on the subject and your skill. The admission process could be improved by conducting an exam and checking the skill of the student before accepting them
Faculty
The faculty to student ratio is good. Faculty here are from all the top colleges in India and have immense knowledge in their subject of expertise. Each faculty member has their own approach of teaching. It's unique and adds to the whole experience of design being a subject. Mentorship is taken seriously, one on one sessions take place every now and then. The professors are very approachable and answer our questions whenever we have them. We can approach then at any point of the day without hesitation.
