What Students Say
Likes
- The first thing I liked here is the teaching staff which is supportive in every aspect. Teachers here are experienced and help students in all the ways they can may it be related to studies or any other career related queries. Thanks to them for this
- The Ruia NCC unit is one of the major highlights because of which I took admission here. It was established in 1948 since the NCC was started in India. It opens various career opportunities for students who want to pursue career in defence structure
- The college supports it's students not only regarding curriculum but also in extra curricular activities. College has an Olympic level Shooting Range which is one of the best in Mumbai. Also, the sports guidance along with opportunities are the best.
Dislikes
- The infrastructure was somewhat not maintained when I got admitted in the college but today the college has undergone reconstruction and is maintaining its unique architecture from the pre independence era along with new amenities for the new student
- The non teaching staff here is somewhat rude to students. Not always do they believe behave the same but yes they are somewhat rude at times.
- Some of the students here are sophisticated. They aren't inclusive and are judgy. These are very less but yes such people do exist
Course Curriculum Overview
One of the major highlights of Ruia is it's curriculum. As Ruia has been given an empowered autonomous status by the University of Mumbai, the college frames it's own curriculum which absolutely meets the industry standards. The teachers are very well versed with current changes and needs of the industry and undergo training programmes frequently. Exams are taken twice a term mainly the unit and the end term exams.
Internships Opportunities
Having a conversation with the seniors, there are an impressive amount of internship opportunities provided by the departments. I don't know about the companies but yes there are various opportunities. If a student completes his NCC C certificate with an A grade, jobs are offered by Reliance, Taj, ITC, etc. As a chief security executive. Also a competitive exams guidance supports students to give UPSC CS exam and other exams after which they can be an example for others.
Fees and Financial Aid
The fee is 7.5k but The fee was hiked this academic year after 5 years due to inflation. The hike wasn't too much. Also, the alumni association provides scholarships to the students who need it. The college is registered to the Government of Maharashtra Scholarships and receives the same from the Government. Internships are given by the college frequently to bright students with a good pay.
Campus Life
The campus life in Ruia is one of the best in Mumbai with the Quadrangle being the place where all the major fests take place. Ruia conducts Aarohan, an intercollegiate fest every year in December along with cultural fests, sports fests, departmental fests, etc. The library in Ruia is also one of the major highlights of Ruia and is updated with new and innovative books. Classrooms and Labs are well equipped and are well lit. Talking about the extra curricular activities, sports has a great career including an Olympic level Shooting range, boxing ring, Gym, badminton court, etc. Ramakant Achrekar, coach of Saching Tendulkar is one of the Alumnis. Ruia Students Council is the body for the students and undertakes various activities along with NSS and NCC units. Overall there's a good environment for students.
Admission
Taking admission into my course needed a 10+2 certificate from any Nationally recognised board of education in Science stream. The students will have to first register on the University of Mumbai website after which they can register themselves on the college website. Once registered, the college puts up a cut off list for the course and admissions occur in 3 rounds. Reservation is present in admission to courses but depends on the cut off. During my times the cut off from the 3rd list was 86 percentage and the first list was above 90 percentage. The exams are moderately tough and the exam cell is one of the best.
Faculty
All of the professors here are well qualified in their respective fields. Most of them have a PhD in their subjects while others are pursuing PhD after their Masters. The number of professors is good and the student faculty ratio is impressive than other colleges. They teach students by giving current examples and applications of concepts in day to day life. Professors are always open to students for asking their doubts and they can contact the faculty whenever they need to. Professors also conduct mentorship programmes for students.
