- Faculty is well chosen and the F&B department and Kitchen department faculty is great
Dislikes
- The infrastructure is old and not well maintained. Cement us falling off ceilings.
- Some of the department like Front office and housekeeping don't have enough expertise faculty.
- Some days the mess food is not upto the mark and needs improvement. Other days it is not in proper quantity.
Course Curriculum Overview
The curriculum under the JNU batch is not very vast and not too less. It provides proper insight into each of the 4 core departments in the hotel industry. The curriculum for F&B in particular is very detailed and well made and provides great information about the subject. This influenced my decision to take up the same. The curriculum provides practical knowledge to about the working of the hotel and prepares us for the same. In terms of improvement, there could be some changed like inclusions of newly released techniques of hotel management. Housekeeping requires better curriculum as it is too theory based. Exams are held twice in a Semester. The timing is enough for us to study most of the material and the difficulty level is manageable.
Internships Opportunities
There is Internship of 4 months held in the Second year of the course. Students are supposed to register with the college who in turn call the hotels for providing internship opportunities to the students. Companies like Taj, Oberoi and Hyatt have come for providing internship opportunities to the students. The stipend is usually around 4-5K per month.
Placement Experience
During the 6th semester(3rd year), students are eligible for campus placement. Top hotels are called for recruitment of students and their interviews are conducted in the college itself. Hotels like Taj group, Oberoi, Radisson, ITC, etc visited the college for campus placement this year. Average package ranges from 3,50,000 to 4,00,000 and highest package is around 5,50,000 to 6,00,000. Most of the students get placed through college. My plans are too get selected through campus placement and get as much work experience as possible for 3 to 4 years. After that I wish to start my own eatery.
Fees and Financial Aid
The tuition fees for one year is around 1,30,000 and hostel fee is around the same. Second year fee is around 15000 less due to Industrial training. As of now there is no hike in tuition fee. Complete cost of tuition fee is around 4,50,000. Scholarships are provided for EWS and students with Caste certificate. Scholarships are given based on students' academic performance.
Campus Life
The college conducts various events throughout the year. Events like cornucopia and Cafeteria events are held every year. Festivals like Holi, diwali and Christmas are celebrated. The library has books related to all the departments and can be borrowed. Projectors are provided for every class and some classes have ACs. Sports are not held on regular basis. Competitions are seldomly conducted. Students of first year conduct social drives to feed the underprivileged and poor.
Hostel Facilities
Hostel faculties are basic. There are 2 fans and 3 cabinets for 3 students per room. There is one study table for each student. There are charging points for each student. Meal quality in general is nice. Menu is shuffled every month. There is option for both veg and non veg for most days. Hostel is affordable and registration process is not lengthy.
Admission
The eligibility criteria for the course was having passed out of 12th grade with atleast 50% marks scored. NCHMCT JEE exam was required to be given in order to be eligible to choose the colleges. Application form and all other details is readily available on their official website. These exams are held every year in around mid May and the difficulty level is not very high. In order to be eligible for IHM Mumbai a student must secure rank above 800. Admission process is alright but fee payment portal needs improvement as it's servers are down most of the time.
Faculty
The faculty to student ratio is around 1:40 per department. It is enough as they are able to provide proper assistance to all students. Some of the faculty have a modern approach towards teaching concepts while some choose traditional methods. Overall their teaching is proper and understandable. Teachers can be approached easily after class or during break time and doubts can be solved at that time. Qualification wise most of the faculty members are fit for their jobs and have proper knowledge and experience. New faculty members are overall alright but need proper training.
