An overall review of NITR

Curriculum is designed in a way which benifits the core aspects of a specialization. In our case in NIT Rourkela, we have 3 specializations - CS(Computer Science), IS(Information Security), SE(Software Engineering) in which all of us will be having 3 common theory subject in first 2 semesters. And 2 core subjects and probably labs according to the specializations. Classes will be done time to time and attendance will be strictly taken in which failure to get 85% will leads to decrease in the grade obtained (grade back after 6 maximum absents for each subject). Evaluation and teachings will be according to the standards of a top tier NIT college like NITR (above medium level difficulty).

Most of the companies visit the campus before the full time placement session to offer internships in various roles to our students. Companies later turn these offers into full time roles based on the performance of the candidates. So they offer one year long internship or 6 month short intern with PPOs mostly (performance based pre placement offer). Companies like Qualcomm, Texas Instruments, Oracle, Microsoft and a lot more companies do visit the campus to provide internships.

Being one of the top tier colleges in India, NIT Rourkela is having decent placement record from many years. Coming to my batch and our seniors, almost everyone got placed with a decent packages. I got placed into micron with 20lpa package even in this hard recession times. Opportunities are more than enough for the students and it's all about students efforts and hardwork to get placed in a good company. As per my batch 60lpa is the highest and 5.6lpa being the lowest package till date. Top companies like Google, Microsoft, AWS, Amazon, Texas Instruments, Oracle, Micron, do visit our campus and many more. Students who are having a decent CGPA of 6 or more will be eligible to most of the companies. Some companies even allow students having backlogs and CGPA less than 5. To being in the safer side, it's recommended to have a CGPA of 7 which makes eligibility for 90% of the companies.

Fees will be paid semester wise (70-80k avg). Fee will be more at the time of admission which contains paying of caution deposits, and various other particulars. A nominal stipend of 12,400/- will be given to master's students as scholarship amount from MHRD, govt of India for almost 22 to 23 months. However, if a student is availing internship benifits from other company, they are not entitled to get stipend amount from the institution. Also, if a student fails to achieve the first class CGPA (>= 6 CGPA), their stipend will be on hold untill making the required CGPA by next semesters. Fee structure can be found in the institute's official website which contains tution fee, hall fee, mess fee, medical fee, establishment fee, and others. People who are having reservation will be exempted from paying tution fee which is 35,000/-. Students receive stipend as the complimentary for the duties they undertake in the 3rd and 4th semester as TA - Teaching Assistant for the laboratory sessions.

Life is wonderful life at NITR. We are having almost 90 clubs and students activity centre (SAC) for organising various fests and events in every semester which will be very refreshing to the students. Facilities are good enough for students which includes gyms at every hostel, all possible sports facilities, top class swimming pool, football and cricket grounds with flood lights, central library, and the list goes on. 1200 acers green campus with almost 10,000 trees gives you fresh and beautiful atmosphere. All the departments are having best laboratories with high end systems. Popular events are INNOVISION, NITRUTSAV, COSMO, CELEBRITY NIGHT, VRIDDHI, INTER NIT SPORTS, HALL FESTS, GARDEN FESTS, and so on.

Hostels are provided at the time of admission. There are hostels for married couples with very nominal fees. Rest of the hostels will be for bachelors with good facilities. Each hostel will be having a day canteen and night canteen. Badminton courts, common rooms, washing machines, sport rooms with chess, carroms and Table tennis, TV hall, and study halls with ACs, lan connection, geysers, and 24hrs electricity and water supply. Attached mess facility is available and every year garden fest and hall day will be celebrated with food and award ceremony. Coming the quality and quantity of the food being served is above average. 5 out of 7 days, nonveg will be served and there is a seperate pure vegetarian mess.

Admission for Master's in NIT ROURKELA will be given based on the valid GATE SCORE which varies each year based on the paper difficulty and cut offs. You can find the seat allotment for each category in the official CCMT website for each year which gives you a rough estimation. Each specialization will have minimum gate score criteria in which a candidate needs to get. The entire admission process will be done in the CCMT portal which will be mostly organised by MNIT Jaipur every year. The process will be clean and organized perfectly which makes admission process easy. CCMT portal is the one stop solution to all necessary requirements for a master's admission. In case of availing reservation benifits, one should have valid caste certificate issued from the state government with tahsildar signature. In general, extra time will be given in case of document submission.
